Another question - does Chase look at all credit extended to a person or just credit that Chase extended? Deciding if I should lower some of DH limits before he applies for the CSP.
Chase looks at the total credit that only Chase has extended to the applicant, including personal and business lines of credit.
When proactively reducing credit lines:
- It's best to reduce CLs far enough in advance so that the lowered CLs are reported to the credit report(s) that Chase pulls before submitting a new application. Although you can SM Chase to reduce a CL on a card, and Chase will reduce your CL effective immediately, Chase does not report the reduced CL to the credit bureaus until the close of statement on that card. So although Chase should know how much credit it's extended to you, its approval algorithm may be looking at your credit report and see the higher CL.
- When deciding how much to reduce a CL to, leave an extra $5k in available credit for each new card you may be applying for (and $10k for a CSR) in case you have to move credit from an existing card to open the new card(s).
- I don't think you have any business cards. But if you ever do decide to dip your toes into business cards, keep in mind that Chase will not let you move credit from personal cards to open a biz card, and vice versa. So reduce CLs among your personal and biz cards accordingly.

But I called back to try Leon's extension, who also wasn't available but I got dropped into another queue this time. (I don't know why Melissa was special and I got an option for her voicemail, but I guess maybe they just know Melissa is special
) I spoke with Terrance (x1118118) and he told me the same as Leon, the first time you need to make payment is when you need to use your UR. Since I made a deposit already, I could use my UR when it gets transferred but I don't need to until a payment is due. If I had the cruise on a hold or something and needed to make payment when it was transferred then, yes, if I wanted to use UR I'd have to use them then for that payment. He asked when my final payment was and when I told him it was a late 2019 cruise so it wasn't due until next year he said I had plenty of time to use my UR then.
