someone on here did a quick writeup of the cost... I want to do the whole 1500 at once but i'm nervous! Can I 'send' my DH some money back from my card too? or is that too much.....so far I've only done $750 bc I'm afraid of triggering something

The fee for transferring the entire $1500 would be $43.80. So you would actually get charged $1543.80. You could do $1458.00 with a fee of $42.58 for a total of $1500.58.

You can have your DH pay you via Paypal as well, but if he uses a card then it wouldn't actually be from the same funds. The funds that go into yours/his Paypal accounts will either have to be spent down or transferred to a bank account.

I agree with @speedyfishy with being careful. Paypal can shut down your account and tie up money without much recourse on your part.

Freedom's Q2 5x bonus categories include PayPal transactions up to a cap of $1,500.

PayPal has a feature that lets you transfer money to friends and family for a 2.9% + $0.30 transaction fee. To max out the PayPal category on one card, you'd just send your spouse (or a trusted person) a payment of $1,457.43 + PayPal fees ($42.27+0.30) = $1,500. Spouse deposits the money back into his/her account, or friend gets the money back to you. BOOM. You've maxed out the bonus in one transaction, earned 7,500 UR, and it cost you only $42.57 in fees.

This assumes you don't have other ways of maxing out the Q2 categories, organically and without incurring fees.

Thanks for the write up... I'm going to have DH PC his CSP to the CF today. And we'll max those out this way this quarter.

@jhoannam @hsmamato2 I just wanted to point out that there is still about a month and a half left in the quarter. I would use Paypal funding as a last resort. I find this quarter's CFU bonus to be one of the easiest since it includes grocery stores. When I get close to the end of the quarter, I just buy Kroger gift cards from Kroger and use for my grocery shopping for the next month or two. Though with Paypal as the other bonus, I won't need to do that this year.

@jhoannam and @hsmamato2 -

Another good way to maximize the PayPal aspect of CF 5x bonus is buying discounted gas and other gift cards from SVM and PayPal Digital Gifts on eBay and checking out with PayPal/CF when they’re on sale like right now: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/ebay...top-southwest-uber-exxon-bp-chevron-and-more/

There’s one more month in this quarter, so I expect eBay will offer another round or two of good gift cards for sale because they tend to run a lot of promos and sales at the end of every quarter to juice up sales numbers.

hmmmm I did teo smaller ones, and already put them back in the bank. Maybe I'll cool it for a while. I also made quite a few organic paypal spends this month,so I'm hoping that's enough to make it ok. I made a few spends, and Dh made two payment to my acct. using his FR.

Another good way to max the CF category this month is teacher gifts...gift cards.

Buy at Walmart GC at Walmart.com and use chase pay/CF at checkout. Take to sams and buy multipacks of popular gift cards at a discount.

Or

Buy various GC at your grocery store with CF.

I prefer to treat the teachers to lunch :) I just took DS's teachers lunch yesterday from a local Italian restaurant for teacher appreciation week since we had our PTO luncheon for them last week. They loved it!!! I did it at Christmas time also.

Thank you! I will use paypal P2P as last resort, but we need to meet DH's Marriott MSR before the July statement closes (to get the Marriott Package before 8/1). And thanks for that link, we actually do need some Uber $ for our Disney trip next week... 2 more sleeps - I'm so freaking excited. We are going to surprise our girls on Sunday.

Our return flight is at 6AM and I don't want to ride the DME at 3AM. Anyone know what time we need to take an Uber from CSR to MCO for a 6AM SW Flight?

On the Chase Sapphire Preferred bonus it says

"50,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. Plus earn an additional 30,000 bonus points after you spend $20,000 on purchases within your first year of account opening."

Am I interpreting this correctly, Spend $4,000 in the first 3 months and you'll then have 54,000 points. Then spend another $20,000 by the end of the year and you'll have another 50,000 points, for a total of 104,000 points?

A BIG "Attaboy" goes out to my dh, reluctant P2. We received his CSR and I tried last night and again this a.m. to verify card online. I kept getting "This portion of our website is down. Please try again later." So we had to call in. He didn't grumble or complain and managed to get through it with my coaching. (You can probably figure out what he wants in return....:lovestruc No, it's not a free trip to WDW! :rolleyes1)

Maybe Chase has a video camera turned on and realized the person applying at 2 am last weekend didn't look like a Ralph!

Now off to spend $4k!

That CSP bonus offer is for a total of 80,000 UR. 50k UR after you spend $4k, and another 30k UR when you hit $20k (inclusive of the $4k MSR) in your first year. So at minimum, you’ll have 100k UR (80k UR bonus + at least 20k UR from the $20k spend) if you can meet the second tier of spend.

It’s generally thought not to be that great of an offer/return after you’ve met the initial $4k MSR for 50k UR, unless you can manufacture spend to get the remaining 30k UR.

So the Gift Card thread has me now a bit concerned SB since I would have to just now open an account and then proceed to use 8+ transactions... So prob will go back to the Walmart/SAMs sure bet. Now I need to put spend on the CIC, Anyone know if OfficeMax/Depot sells Walmart cards? LOL! TBH I have not walked into the place in years!

Well if there is a shutdown to be had I am asking for it. I never used SB. I had opened account a few years ago and then abandoned it when I realized how long it took to acquire points. However this BB deal reeled me in! I did 8 $50 transactions in two stores back to back. Kinda living dangerously but :confused3. It was a risk I was willing to take. Our closest BB's are an hour away so I was hitting them hard while I was nearby. So far everything has posted like it should. The only downside is on 3 of the transactions my Chase Pay reverted to my CSR instead of the freedom. I tried a SM for some pity points but got zippo. $150 @ 1% vs 5%

So @Calfan , I don't suppose you could suggest to Safeway corporate to do more Visa and MC coupons, say in a couple weeks before the Discover quarter ends? I wouldn't mind another $600 worth to finish off that category.

I didn't think of it for the Visa coupon but I might see if FIL can add the MC coupons to his account and then use his to buy another round too. So far it seems to have worked to pay our Verizon bill ok, so it seems an easy way to spend on Discover and get ~$3 off to boot.

I would be happy if they went back to the fixed amount GC's earning fuel points >:(. I was expecting them not realizing they quite giving them out. Made my deal a bit less lucrative.

That’s nice of you. That would be my worst nightmare. I hate making smalltalk with strangers.:crazy2:

@afan I finally figured out the deal with Amex! I know we are WAY past this but I finally got caught up. My Amex does code FM as a Grocery Store but further breaks it down into " Category: Merchandise & Supplies - Wholesale Stores "which is the part that excludes it from getting 6% back on my BCP, at least at my stores in SW Washington. Its a bummer because their fuel deals are way better than Safeway's!
