I just called Amex saying I tried referring a friend last night and my link wasn’t working so I didn’t get any points.... they wanted a name. I never have any luck with this stuff.
Was it C F Frost? :rotfl2:

I was thinking about this last night and whether it's worth it to call. I knew I'd get asked for a name lol. And *then* what do you say?!?

I was like I’m going to ask my friend if that’s ok and I’ll call back. :scared: I said normally this stuff is anonymous. I didn’t even know if that’s true but she said yes. Lol

Hey y'all! Has anyone had a problem using Plastiq for a fifth third auto loan? I've tried to pay it twice and they check always comes back.

Also, Got my CIP last night! Excited it got here before my trip tomorrow. I logged into the UR portal and my freedom card shows as my only chase card. Does it take a while for CIP to show?

Which one are you looking at? We have decided to spend a week in Chicago this summer so DS8 can attend the Blackhawks hockey camp.

The Gwen, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Michigan Avenue Chicago

Luxury Collection hotels are usually a good bet for a weekend away with DH. I have only ever been to Chicago for work (and that was a while ago) so I don't know the city. I figure if we are there for 48 hours, we will just explore whatever is nearby :rotfl:

I had to register my CIP separately and then merged the accounts by calling in. I know other people keep their biz accounts separate from personal with Chase. Either is an ok option.

Have they fixed the Chase pay or what ever issue there was with merging Biz/Personal accounts? I have two accounts and it'd be nice to get them merged, tho I've never used Chase Pay so I guess I wont be out anything but don't want to miss a sweet deal!

...aaaaand one more question... :duck:
since Mr. Cooper is still working via Plastiq with my CIP, is it safe to assume I could pay with the new SPG Biz for MSR?

I think if you can get it through Plastiq's restrictions put in place for Amex (and Visa), it'll count towards MSR for Amex.

Here's how my rent payment on Plastiq posted to my SPG Biz:

@pillow We're spending 5 days in Moab and that was cut down from an original 6 days. Here is what we are doing in Moab - 2 days in Arches for hiking; 1 day in Canyonlands and dead horse point state park; 1 day for ATV Tour; 1 day trip to a slot canyon and goblin state park (about an hour or so away). We are skipping white water rafting and biking and some scenic drives (looking for Dino sites). Definately think there is enough to do for 7 days.

We usually move around as well so this will be different for us too.

Good info. I'm taking screen shots of all Moab comments and filing them away. I do love Utah. Spring or Fall seems key to avoid crowds and heat.
I'm also putting all these Moab itineraries/tips into my "Future Vacation Ideas" doc. I really want to visit the National Parks out west, but don't really know where to start with planning such a trip on my own. I'd love to do a group tour but most of them are very expensive for a (usually) one week trip.

So for those that understand elite status at SPG and/or Marriott . . . is there an opportunity for a higher status with the merger? I don't travel enough to get status anywhere, so I typically just ignore status requirements. But, given that Marriott Gold will map to Marriott Platinum, does it make sense to shoot for Gold before 8/1? This is what I have currently:

Marriott: 27 nights + 3 coming prior to 8/1 (a 4th night will be ON 8/1)
SPG: 10 nights

Total combined = 40 nights prior to 8/1.

What does this mean? Would I need 10 more nights to be classified as Marriott Gold by 8/1 which will map to Marriott Platinum under the new program. Is this worth trying to do? Just thinking through this figuring out if there is opportunity here.

I was just contemplating this as well. If you don't have status with either program, the nights that you have earned will combine and map to the new program. How many stays do you have with SPG? I always found getting 10 stays easier than 25 nights because I traveled for work. I once needed just one more stay for SPG gold so I booked a room at the local Sheraton (which was maybe $80) on December 30. I checked in and then went back home. It got me gold status for the next year, which I value at more than $80.

Unfortunately, I only have 4 stays so far this year and have none planned until October unless I get more work trips that come up between now and August, I don't think I will make status this year.

ETA: So I guess what I am saying is, what is the cost to get another 10 nights and is that cost worth the status to you?

Thanks for this. Makes sense what you're saying. Did a read somewhere that you can earn a Marriott elite night by charging $3K on the Marriott card? If so, it might be worth doing (MSing?) if you only need a night or two.
I'm also trying to figure out what, if any, status I will have in the new Starriott program for 2019. As far as I understand it, any nights that you've earned in either program (including those from the co-branded credit cards) will be combined on 8/1. What I don't know is, will all of your earnings for the rest of the year then be combined and go towards a status level in the new Starriott program for 2019? And does this run concurrently with being able to still earn status in either Marriott or SPG based on the pre-merger rules?

I don't have any Marriott or SPG stays so far in 2018, but (if I'm understanding correctly what is going to happen on 8/1), I will have 26 nights total at that point. 15 from Marriott Biz + 1 from spending $3K for the MSR, 5 from SPG Biz, and 5 from SPG Personal. So will I automatically have Gold Elite status in the new program at that point? And if I sign up for the new Marriott Personal card before 8/1, will that come with another 15 nights that will be added to my combined total?

This is all confusing but we'll definitely be staying at some Starriotts next year so having Platinum status (free breakfast!) would be nice.

I honestly am not in tune with that issue, haven't used Chase Pay either and don't really intend to. Maybe somebody else can help out on this Q?? :)

Are you trying to pay the auto loan with an Amex? (Auto loans don't play well with Amex on Plastiq.)

Does Plastiq let you submit the payment without error? (Does it give you the message that this is an unsupported payment type and tell you to use a different card?)

When you say the check comes back, do you mean Plastiq mailed out the check but then it gets returned?

Congratulations again on the CIP! I'd set up a new account for it.

I just called Amex saying I tried referring a friend last night and my link wasn’t working so I didn’t get any points.... they wanted a name. I never have any luck with this stuff.

I actually do have a legit name to give, as I applied for a card for DH yesterday, but I'm too scared to call and ask about it!

Thanks for that! I'm pretty sure you posted this earlier, but I have such a hard time finding things in the thread now that it's moving so quickly.

My first concern is that it won't count toward the bonus because it's going to be hard for me to meet MSR without it, buy my bigger concern is that I will get flagged by Amex for paying a mortgage with the card. But if they can't see the payee... I wonder if I should use a vague category like you did, rather than the real estate category.
