I love credit cards so much!

The q1 category for the chase freedom includes Apple Pay. You can send your spouse money through Apple Pay and while you pay a 3% fee, it codes 5x. If you have a CSR and move those UR to that card, it’s now worth 7.5x UR.
Also, q2 includes PayPal so you can repeat this then :)

Ooooh, ok; that makes sense! Do people ever do this to meet minimum spends?
You could but you’d pay a 3% fee. Paying bills through plastiq is 2.5% so that would be a better way to go. And I would not use Apple Pay person 2 person to meet an Amex spend!

I would never do this because I am timid but I wondered if some of the less risk-averse people do. But plastiq would be better, apparently. i've got to look into that. Still not even sure what it is.

SO has Marriott gold because of his job, anyway easy for me to transfer my points to his account? I’d like to transfer 140k. Marriott has a limit of 50k? Is this even for the same household?

I don't understand. How does this work?

Chase Freedom Q1 5x bonus categories includes Apple Pay.

Apple Pay has a feature called "Apple Pay Cash" that allows you to send payments from person to person through Messages or Siri. Payments funded by a credit card incur a 3% fee. For more information: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207886

CF's bonus category earns 5x UR on payments up to $1,500.

If you use Apple Pay Cash to send $1,500 to your spouse (or other trusted person), you'd incur a $45 fee, but you'd earn 7,500 UR, which is worth $75 if you cash out at 1 cpp, or could be worth 50% more or $112.50 worth in travel if the points are transferred to CSR and redeemed through the Chase UR portal.

Assuming you want to earn 5x on the 3% fee too, you'd make an Apple Pay Cash payment of $1,456.31 + 3% ($43.69) = $1,500. And there, you've maxed out the entire $1,500 sitting on a couch, earning at least $75 in UR points for only $43.69 in fees.

Spouse transfers the payment to your bank account, or trusted recipient gets the money back to you.

Freedom's Q2 5x bonus categories include PayPal transactions.

Similarly, PayPal has a feature that lets you transfer money to friends and family for a 2.9% + $0.30 transaction fee. To max out the PayPal category on one card, you'd just send your spouse (or a trusted person) a payment of $1,457.43 + PayPal fees ($42.27+0.30) = $1,500. Spouse deposits the money back into your account, or friend gets the money back to you. BOOM. You've maxed out the bonus in one transaction, earned 7,500 UR, and it cost you only $42.57 in fees.

This assumes you don't have other ways of maxing out the Q1 and Q2 categories, organically and without incurring fees.

It’s a bill payment service. You use a cc to pay them (earning rewards and meeting spends) and they do an ACH or mail a check for you. This can really come in handy for bills you cannot normally pay with a cc, like mortgages. However, it can be tricky to get a mortgage through as visa and Amex don’t allow mortgage payments through plastiq. Tricky doesn’t mean impossible though!

There is a 2.5% fee though to use the service. But if you use your CIP, currently everything through plastiq codes 3x. Move the points to a csr and they are now worth 4.5x. So this can be a nice UR earner.

If you decide to use plastiq, there are links on reddit to show support.

Are you two in the same household? Do you two have SPG accounts? And are SPG accounts linked to your corresponding Marriott accounts?

Assuming yes to all of the above, you could transfer your Marriott points to your SPG account at 3:1 in 1,000 point increments, then transfer your SPG points to SO's SPG account 1:1 in 1,000 point increments, then SO transfers the SPG points from his SPG account to his Marriott account at 1:3 in 1,000 point increments. There's no limit doing it this way.

Thank you! Same household and we both have SPG accounts. I’ll link our Marriott and SPG accounts and do it that way. Marriott also charges a $10 fee for 50k points lol.

Skimmed all the pages from the weekend - sounds like everyone has lots of fun travel in the works.

I just killed a little chunk of my MSR for my SPG with a fun purchase - season ticket renewal to our local theater because HAMILTON is coming here in 2018. Total extortion - in order to buy additional tickets in the pre-sale, you have to pay for your season tickets plus an additional donation to the theater... but - I am not throwin' away my shot.

And I'm not giving up any UR points or anything by using my SPG Biz, so good timing for this purchase! Hopefully the advanced ticket sale for Hamilton will also fall before my MSR period is over - going to pick up some additional tickets because everyone I know wants to see this show (and my kids are already lobbying to be able to go twice - not sure that is going to happen!) So excited that the show is coming to us - now we just have to wait for it...

Sorry just finished catching up from the weekend.

My travel party are three children 16, 15, and 8 and myself
We want to travel to London, Jamaica but mostly Florida
No spouse signing up for cards
I have not applied for any cards within the last 24 months.
How does getting a card and canceling it affect your credit? My credit is very good to excellent.
Several airlines fly out of our airport.
Thanks
I’d go for the CIP then CSR/CSP double dip. This would give you 180k UR. Transfer your UR from CIP to CSR and book your disney trips through CSR. Also pay your mortgage through plastiq using your CIP. Also if you add one of your kids as UR on CSP that’s another 5k UR bonus.

Any idea about what happens if I am creative and can get my mortgage to go through on line but for some reason plastiq doesn't like it and it get rejected. will they reimburse you or refund the amount.
Tried to pay a loan and it went through but then before being sent it got rejected. Plastiq refunded cc the amount and the fee. So it’s worth trying

I have yet another question about the CIP. if i pay my phone and cable bill with it i would get 3x in points. But if i pay my electric and water bill it will only be 1x. IF so does plastiq count 3x on water and electric (utilities)?

Also, no go with the mortgage payment as of yet on the CIP through plastiq. But if for some reason i can "trick" the system and it does pass the online steps and produces an invoice to be paid, is there a final manual review or override where it could get rejected?
Yes so far all my plastiq had done 3x

Plastiq is my new best friend lol especially since my mortgage is going through. Hope it keeps going through since that’s almost 10k UR a month.

Just know it's not instant. Your Marriott to your SPG will be instant, but SPG to SPG takes a few days. Then his SPG to his Marriott will be instant.

Also @MrPTato - you posted your new misc comment in the OLD misc thread. Might want to move that over ;)
I think I deleted it!

Had to take car into the shop and they do not take AMEX. So should I buy a VGC for this? They haven't called me with a total yet, but guessing a couple hundred dollars. Is there a better place or specific kind I should buy?

I just started this new "hobby" and now I find myself wanting ALL the cards all at once! Is this normal, haha? :ssst: I want the IHG before it goes away, I want that CIC bonus, and I want to double dip the CSP and the CSR, and that's just the beginning!

I need to decide which order to do this in.

Oh, I also need the CF. :rolleyes1
Me too! IHG and Hyatt and CIC now, and CIP, and the Marriotts before they go away... and a CF!!

You need to buy them at a location that doesn't submit level 3 data. I've found my grocery store is still a safe place to buy VGCs with AMEX but I make sure the total doesn't end in $X.95 (i.e. either buy something else with them OR pay for a little of it with some spare change).

If they take a VGC you can get one at stop and shop/giant, load the mobile coupon to your app and you will get $15 off a grocery purchase.

I'm with you @speedyfishy...

If I wasn't putting a charge towards an MSR my thought is:
1) Grocery = 3% on BCE
2) Gas = 3% on BofA Americard
3) Other option1 = ~3% value on any of our SPG cards
4) Other option2 = buy VGC with BCE at a grocery store = 3%
5) Other option3 = ~2.5% value via 2x MRs on Blue Business+
(also left out restaurants which I have a bunch of options on probably at > 2%)

If I was going to go without an MSR for awhile I'd probably even upgrade my BCE to BCP for the 6%. :) Obviously having all of these cards gives me options which is why I got rid of the CFU and went to having 4 Freedoms!! LOL!

EDIT: and of course I left out supreme option A (which apparently comes before 1 in my mind) which is hitting up my 4 freedom cards for $6,000 of 5%!!
Tell me if I'm off here..... when I have no MSR I use
Groceries-BCP=6%
Restaurants-CSR=3x points(not the type that take gc's)
Discover It for categories=10x points (1st year)
FR (x3) for categories =5x points
everything else- FU=1.5 points (or should I be using spg for uncategorized?)
this is my general go-to usage....any advice or does it sound right?
