I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

Totally agree with this. Hawaii is a pain to get to from Chicago, and such a long flight, compared to so many other places I want to visit in the world. And really incredibly expensive. We travel to a lot of islands, so we know island life is expensive. But it was expensive, expensive. We enjoyed our trip and wouldn't mind going back someday if it made sense as a stopover flighting west.

I'm on the west coast and feel the same way. I can fly to most/all of the east coast in less time than I can fly to HNL. I've been three times, though once was for work. To Maui and Oahu. I haven't been in over 20 years and I'm ok with that. I'd like to go to Lanai, Molokai and the big island but there's so many other places that aren't as expensive. But I'm also not a beach vacation person, not that any of those 3 trips had a ton of beach time, but activities adds to the cost.

I made one purchase of $300 in Amex gift card with the Amex deal. Tried to buy DGC on 3 different websites all declined. Tried to pay my DVC dues directly, declined. When checking balance online to be sure the previous attempts didn't place holds, the Amex site errors out.

I know it’s always been a warning that Amex GC are hard to use. Decided to give one a try and yep seems to be more hassle than the 6.67% savings is worth.

Just an update I was able to use it at BJ's on a DGC a couple hours ago, so far the order has not been cancelled.

I kept getting declined. It would send a notice to my amex app and I would say yes it is me and then the website would error and say it couldn't be placed.
AMEX got the charge and then it showed an instant credit for the $750 multiple times.

I may give it one more shot for use at BJ's.

I was shocked you got declined for dues as well as I have been able to use the $15 Proctor and Gamble rebate visa's there so I figured they would take everything.

Glad it worked for you at BJ's though.

I think you'll love the EDITION. The food and beverage is much better there and since you get some many credits with FHR and the daily resort fee, I think that's the preferred option. I bet they'll allow you to stay in the same room- I'd just reach out in advance. Iceland sounds incredibly cozy for Christmas!
Thanks! I hope we'll be able to get several credits. I booked P1 Plat for first night, P2 Plat for second, then P1 CSR for last two nights. I think at least when we switch to CSR they'll likely have to give us the $100 again, but we'll see what happens between the 2 Plats--they might just count it as once, that's happened sometimes at other FHRs.

Got a shipped notification so should work at BJs. I have had hard times with pp visa but nothing like this.

Sorry to hear, this is what I remembered also 5 years ago, sad it hasn't changed.

I got some Amex GCs last year to help meet a SUB that was running close. I had trouble using them so I took them to our trip to Japan last November. I didn't have issues there, lol. They paid for most of our stay at Tokyo Disney Hotel MiraCosta and some souvenirs.

I thought it was funny that I could say: I had to go to the other side of the world to spend my Amex GCs 😂

Okay so I applied for my last Ink on 10/13. I had closed my 3rd Ink just prior to that on like 10/9 or something. So I had 2 active Inks but I got the denial. Then last month I closed my CIP too, late like maybe 1.5 weeks ago. I stand at 1 INK now, the CIP I've had since 2021 I think.

How much longer do I need before I can apply again? I'd like to try for a CIU. I have college payments coming up (as soon as this week) as well as the holidays, taxes, etc. I'm ready to get a new card as it's been MONTHS and lots of lost payments.

On a personal/hacking sad note....I found a way this year to pay for my son's hockey through Delta's education matching. Not only could I use a credit card, delta would match the payment giving bonus money to the program. My son is 16, and has been playing hockey since 3, on skates since 18 mos. It was his life! He was the only freshman to make varsity. Last fall a nasty hit resulted in a 3/4th tear of his labrum. He played out the season and had surgery a week later. He had a stick in his hand 3 days after. He was SO excited to be cleared for skating in June. and finally play in August. But I think he has been upset with/ his level of play. I think he gave up the dream there is any hockey besides "fun" after HS. His age group (2009) are now getting drafted, college offers, etc. So he turned his focus to school. And on my birthday of all days, (which was day 1 of HS tryouts) he told me he's done. Of course AFTER I bought him $1k new skates w/o a credit card spend in June because he couldn't wait! I'm still processing all this as stupid as it sounds, it's a loss of an identity. I think my heart breaks the most that right now he has NO desire to skate AT ALL! He handled it very maturely and his coach told him he is always welcomed back. I know (as a retired HS teacher) junior year is huge. Sadly my son blew off 9th grade and a lot of 10th grade. So his GPA is like 2.2. But he now has an A in classes like Algebra 2 and Physics. I taught HS Engineering and I didn't take psychics, LOL. He's also planning on retaking some of his freshman classes to boost his GPA. He told one of his teammates maybe he'll come back senior year. I'm just sad because he would have been the only player to be there 4 years. But I tell myself, he made a mature decision. And I have to cheer him on in other ways. He's thinking maybe Engineering or Architecture now (which I taught, so that does make my mom heart happy). Plus now his focus is on golf. So I guess my spend will pivot to that (my mom has been bankrolling the golf, LOL). And I think now that from here till March isn't filled with hockey every day (yes, he had something hockey related literally every single day (minus thanksgiving and Christmas, even NYE they were going to be away at a tournament), we're looking at doing trips where he can golf, since it's about to be snow here. UGH.

I"m not ready to change his emoji in my signature, LOL.
