I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

For me, mostly only that my savings account is sadder.

My water charges a flat fee per payment, so last few years I pay for roughly the year in one go. I know I'll spend it. I don't have a choice in providers so doesn't seem to make a difference if I pay it as I go or pay once and let them work it off.

But if it's someone you can change out, I don't like to overpay because refund policies can change.

We used to have Waste Management for our trash collector. One year AmEx had an offer so I prepaid essentially a year's worth to trigger it. Conveniently they raised their rates the 20% or so that I just got at a discount :headache: But ok whatever. But by the 3rd quarter it was egregious, they were more than double the competitor. I negotiated a "courtesy" discount but they couldn't apply ahead so I'd have to call the next quarter. Well that fell apart when I tried to get them to honor it the following quarter and long story a bit shorter, I had to cut ties with them with a $40 credit on the account. They do not refund. Period. So that's $40 bucks I literally (or ironically) threw away by prepaying.

Sad to say I still saved waaay more even with the $40 loss, and I knew that risk when I prepaid. I just really didn't think they were going scorched earth in the neighborhood that fast. I had already decided it was going to be my last pay ahead with them to try to avoid any cancellation issues, just a little late on my timing! But that's my cautionary tale for pre-payments. Just assess your situation both financially and policy wise. And even if someone has a reasonable refund policy now, they could change in the future.
Thanks for the reply.

Yea, we have no choice in our water company, so that's why I'll use the water company.

And yes savings account is sadder. My plan though is just to send my monthly water bill out of my checking account, back to my savings account. I do love the game!

woo-hoo! PC'd my CSP to the OG Freedom on Saturday, applied & instantly approved for new CSP today! Good thing, as I need to work on replenishing my points after splurging on biz class tickets to London & back for a trip I took with my mom a couple of weeks ago. I read somewhere, maybe it was DoC, that it was May 12th, then it's going back to 60k.
I meant the whole companion pass program, not the specific current credit card bonus.

Or they could change what counts as CP qualifying miles. For instance, the American Airlines cards only earn 1 qualifying mile per dollar spent for their status: the bonus you get on the CC (or 2x, 3x categories for that matter) don't count. You can't CC bonus your way into AA tiers, even though you can generate a ton of miles with those bonuses. Southwest could make a similar ruling for companion pass and knock us churners out of the "2 cards = CP" game.

Anyone have success transferring Avios from BA to Aer Lingus? I've tried on my phone, laptop in Chrome, in Edge and when I click the link from the BA page to get to the "transfer page" it waits and then eventually gives me "upstream request timeout". I've been able to see that this issue has impacted some people for at least a year (reddit/flyertalk).

I guess I should just call (but even that seems hit or miss). Anyone have any luck recently?

My saga goes back years. But I transferred some points, and they went through smooth. Then I went to do the rest, and the website crashed but the points were gone. It was a nightmare limbo getting my points and took like 2 weeks. And when I finally got them, the flights were there for me and my daughter, but not my mom. An email to the CEO and we were able to get her a seat :). But it was a long drawn out process and HELL!

We're going to Epic Universe on 5/27 (less than a week after it's officially open). I can't wait! I did spring for Express, which will hopefully help a lot (but geez, $1k for 4 of us is crazy!) We have 3 nights at UO and 6 nights at WDW, and I keep thinking about adding a second day there, but our UO days are sold out so we'd have to sacrifice a Disney day. Plus I don't think I want to pay for another day of Express, and I'm not sure if the kids would enjoy it very much if we have to wait in long lines all day. I really wish we could make it for the AP previews, but flight prices are insane.
Have fun and come back and let us know how it was for Epic!

my CSP rarely gets used. Would def love the new points offer lol. Did you reduce any credit lines?

Yes, you have to call to do the product change. I then waited the recommended 4 days & applied for a new CSP. I did not reduce any credit limits - I already had 3 biz cards and 3 personal cards with chase, including the the csp that I pc'd to Freedom, but the total credit on all of them was under 50% of my income so I figured I'd likely be okay. Worse case scenario if I got declined I had planned to call & ask them to reallocate credit from my existing cards to a new CSP. But, all went well and I was instantly approved for an even higher limit than I already had on the PC'd card.

I am trying to decide if I want to do this. We just got one for p2, and are a bit under halfway through the spend.
I have a CSP I have had for 5 years, I would have to call to change. What reason do you give them?
I have 4 Chase personal, including that one, and 3 open biz. Credit limits are around 30%. What do you think are my odds with those stats?
Lastly is it worth going 4/24 with this one until September? I would then drop to 3/24 until the following September.

another viewpoint question..... if you could spend 14k UR or 17k Cap1 points on the exact same thing, wwyd? And 2nd.... I'm correct in valuing 41k IHG points as less valuable than 24k UR?

I didn't give a reason, and they didn't ask. IMO, it's worth going 4/24 for a few months for 100,000 URs. I'm not sure about your odds, but others may be able to weigh in.

Make sure you're looking at when you last got the bonus, not when you opened the card. The limit is on how often you can get the bonus.

OK I'm FINALLY calling Chase to PC my CSP to an OG Freedom...
Please remind me of two things:

1-Do I need to consider lowering overall credit limits BEFORE I PC or after?
2-The bulk of my URs are 'attached' to the CSP... do I need to do anything with them now, or will they stay with the new Freedom and then I can just transfer them to the (hopefully) new CSP in a few days?
1. I lowered my credit limit at the same time as PCing my CSP to the OG Freedom.
2. I did not have any URs tied to my CSP. I transferred them all to DH's CSP. But I don't think that it was necessary to do so. I bank all of my URs to my DH's CSP anyway so it didn't make a difference for me.
ETA: When DH's CSP reaches 1-year, I will most likely transfer all URs to my CSP and PC his. We don't need two CSPs.

I guess that is a question for me also, all my URs are on my CSP. If I product change, they will still be fine correct?

I wound up buying $25 physical GCs. There’s a limit of 2 per order but I had no problem placing 2 orders back to back. All are being delivered today and got the emails from Amex saying I’d triggered the offer.
ahh nice maybe i should have done that kinda bummed because it always works with the amex/chase offer on amazon.

I have never given a reason and no one has asked, I’d definitely apply and would have no issues being 4/24
