Well I've now got 3 cars on my credit report, LOL. I wasn't sure since I'm now retired, but my son's Trax got approved. We picked it up yesterday, he doesn't turn 16 till the end of May, LOL. Damn economic uncertainty. I put the $3200 on my Surpass, so between that and my homeowners insurance, I'm 1/2 way to the FNC. But I need another SUB.
I have a ton of medical bills to pay, but I'm kinda in a tricky place. My insurance gives me a break in my deductible for doing their "wellness" checklist. It drops from $1k to $850 for each of us (myself and my kids). We all hit our deductibles in Jan (we each have $850, then $900 in coinsurance). From others I've heard the credit isn't applied til March and sometimes as late as October. And it's on us to ask to have the procedures re-billed and then on us to ask for the money back from each place. Mine is easy, it's one ER visit in Jan. But they charged me $700 for an ER visit at the end of December where I saw NO ONE and sat in the waiting room for 4 hours before I left! I refuse to pay anything. If I saw someone in Dec, I wouldn't have had to go in Jan as well! As it was the same issue (chest pains). So If I pay my full bill for my Jan ER visit, I know my "refund" will be applied to the Dec bill I'm fighting. I contacted the hospital, they won't drop the charge. So I filed w/ my insurance. We'll see.
My son's deductible was met via like 5 different offices. So I'm not even sure where I'd begin to ask for re-billing. So I've been holding off on paying his as well. My daughter met hers through her therapist, and my mom was paying for that. So I just have to remember to have my mom call to get her refund.
Why can't my insurance just start the year at $850 vs making us jump through hoops?
I also still have the $4k bill from my daughter's jaw surgery in 12/2023! I have been calling the hospital billing MONTHLY about the charge, and they tell me monthly it'll be escalated and monthly I don't hear back from anyone. So it doesn't make me really want to "prepay" anything to any hospital right now and deal with refunds, when I can't get anywhere on a bill where I owe them the money! I've been fighting this because we had hit our deductible and co-insurance that year. They knew we were pushing getting in the surgery for that reason. It was supposed to originally be in August and even required pre-approval. But NO ONE told us it wasn't "covered" and no one told us an estimate of cost. It's on their website that I should have been provided an estimate, but they have been saying, well that's just if the office feels like it. It's actually on me to ask for the estimate. But on their website to ask for an estimate, her procedure isn't even listed either. So I'm arguing that they failed to do there part on notifying us. Also my daughter was 18 at the time, so technically this bill is in her name. She doesn't have a steady job and can not afford the $4k. So we've filed for financial assistance. But they refuse to consider her since her dad claims her. I can't get his tax return, and he basically cut her off, and she him. When I tell the hospital they keep saying they'll have someone contact me about everything. But never do. Instead they just keep sending me bills.
I swear, my part time job is dealing w/ insurance and medical bills right now. My mom was a medical biller for her entire career though. So she's been on some help (when she understands what I'm asking her....she's completely lost on my deductible "refund" dilemma).
But per my mom, medical debt can no longer be reported on your credit report and can not count against you. Now I'm all for paying for what's due. What I'm not for is charges that are uncalled for or unexpected (due to hospital/dr error). So I'm VERY tempted to let most of this debt just sit there. I'll pay the bills that are legit, but I'm truly thinking of rolling the dice on my $700 and my daughter's $4k.
On that note, thanks for letting me rant, LOL. And I'm off to see if the NLL Hilton cards get me a pop up, LOL.
