Sidenote as a mom to adult kids.... be careful of the combo you're describing, a dd you want to get a credit card for, paired with a person who needs to be "forced to get a job"..... those 2 things combined usually end in difficulties- as a cc can easily be seen as a free pass to spend, with no way for (her) to pay that bill, which leaves you with it.Morning all. I would like my daughter, who just turned 18 and is enrolled in college in the fall, to apply for a student credit card (or -- rather -- me to do it for her I'd imagine).
Which is the best card for a college freshman AND does she need to have a job to apply?
Also hehe - how do I make her get a job?Kinda kidding, kinda not. She says no jobs "speak to her". I told her my "job" doesn't speak to me either, but I've got one!
Edited to add that I've had her as an AU on my Discover card for about 3 years now. So she should have some sort of credit worthiness, right?
(Of my 2 kids, one was more similiar to your daughters description, one started working at 16 and learned early on the benefits of responsible cc usage,in other words, one of mine wanted to be financially responsible, the other didn't at that point)
