Hmm, this is the first year since they lowered the amount, so I don't think anyone would be getting anything until next January. The prior amount was like $10,000 (maybe more). I had to provide my SSN for tickets I sold on StubHub and they had no idea what I paid for them (they were ticketmaster tickets for a show that they weren't allowing resales, so had to sell them on Stubhub and then forward the tickets via Ticketmaster).

"Ticketmaster is generally required to file a Form 1099-K report with the IRS if the gross amount of your transactions on our marketplaces is $600 or more in a calendar year. "
Some states lowered the amount to $600 previously, and I moved into one of those states in 2021 so got an unexpected 1099-k for last year from PayPal for swagbucks redemptions over $600. It was just a total amt and up to me to determine how much was actually taxable.

I've always thought about setting auto pay for minimum incase I go somewhere and forget but I've been pretty good about it the last 10 years. I did have an auto-pay problem with spectrum one time where they "accidentally charged people" for 3 months it happened to a majority of auto-pay people and they didn't want to give me my money back I should have disputed the other part of it but I kept calling and calling and they finally gave it back to me took like 3 weeks. If you setup auto-pay for minimum and make the full payment before then does it cancel the auto-pay for chase and AMEX or do I have to go in and cancel it? this is why I never did it.
Chase is great in that ANY credits received before payment date reduce the statement balance. This includes all the PYB I do, cash back offers, refunds. If you pay your balance in full the minimum due should go away I would think? I don’t think AmEx treats credits the same, not sure about payments. I always have mine set to pay the full balance though, not the minimum, so I have no clue how that would work. I would prefer not to pay interest.

let's just say I have a bill for 1k and I have a credit coming in for 100 I don't want them to pay 1k if that makes sense and yeah I always pay in full. this happens with AMEX all the time I put in my spreadsheet its 900 and the rebates and offers kick in for say 50-100$ and then I figure if I have auto-pay I would be overpaying.

good to know about chase ill see it up next time I pay . also if you just pay it early does the auto pay cancel? I have a problem with paying my bill before its due just so I can transfer/invest as quick as possible when we get paid.

Yes with Chase definitely if I pay the statement balance in full early, the auto pay does not happen because nothing is due. Sometimes I am using too much of my credit limit so I go in and pay it off earlier.

I just did this a few days ago, on the website it says ‘remaining statement balance’ is 0. The ‘current balance‘ is $1500, but that will be on the next statement which closes in a few weeks.

what about AMEX?
just did it through chase easy peasy.

just looked looks like they have it set up for days after the statement closes and it has this option

Will pay your Total New Balance adjusted for future plan payments. Paying more than this amount will pay off planned transactions prematurely.

edit, so it looks like every bill with AMEX is due 24 days after (it lets you select the days all the way to 25) why would it let you pay it late with autopay doesn't make any sense to me to get that late fee i guess? unless there is a 1 day buffer built-in with auto pay

Thank you - ours still takes it, but you can't be a dine in customer. You have to get your meal to go. I'm hoping we can find a good place to take it to eat. It's a pasta house, so it's a real meal. They do have pizza though, so may get that if it looks like we'll be eating on our laps lol

Just wanted to report back that we used our CSR for the priority pass at a restaurant at STL (Pasta House) and we could eat in and get the $56 credit for the 2 of us. Since Covid, the only way they would honor the card is by getting your meal to go, but Friday night, we were able to eat in and still get the credit. Much improved in my opinion!

Finally coming back to the boards after our ZNP/Bryce trip. It was as amazing as you all have said! The Narrows was so incredible that I begged to do it again the following day, no joke, but DH was a no go on that, lol. We did it without a guide and hiked it to the end of Wall Street. Started super early as there was chances of rain in the afternoon, so we wanted to get in and out, especially since we went on only the second day that the narrows had opened back up after a girl drowned in a flash flood just days prior :’( We did the Dark Ranger stargazing close to Bryce, and lots and lots of hiking in both parks! Did about 3/4 of the trails in Zion, so we’ll have to go back someday to do the rest (including Angels Landing)! We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Springdale using FNCs… really convenient and close to ZNP, and it worked great for us! Had a room with a view, and it was beautiful to eat breakfast in the morning on the outdoor patio as well, looking at the mountains! We used Turo for the rental and it was a great experience… so much easier than using a rental car agency! If anyone has any park questions, Springdale questions, restaurant recommendations or whatever, I’m happy to answer!

Now, onto booking the next trip! Since Japan is finally opening back up (which I’m sure you guys talked about in the 30 pages I missed, lol), I am trying to figure out best way to book those flights using points. I accumulated all the URs we need for that, but forget the process. Is it… look up award flights on United, then call virgin for availability? And then transfer from UR to virgin and book over the phone with them? I think that’s what I recall but something doesn’t sound right to me. Any direction appreciated!

Glad you had a great trip! I love parks! I'm curious how dificult the hiking is? DH and I walk quite a bit, but we aren't what I would consider "hikers", so I'm curious if this would be too difficult for us?

Which model number? I'm seeing a dozen different models all called some variation of Lift Away at greatly varying price points.

I know I'm a few days behind here, but last year we got the Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe Upright Vacuum and love it. We actually got one for upstairs and one for downstairs lol. We got a great deal on them at Kohls and we love them!

I use Chase a lot more than AmEx, I just let the monthly autopay proceed for them, probably have it set up for 20 or 21 days after.

I also learned AutoPay is Life 😉

All the way! All of mine are on autopay. Set it and forget it!
also, something about Amex they will dispute anything! chase it takes forever I know it's on this thread somewhere but I finally got back my 95$ refrigerator shelf back it took almost 50 days!

YMMV. I tried to get them to dispute a charge on my Delta Biz and they continued to tell me it was a valid charge and I had to pay - $23. Cancelled the card since they wouldn't accept the fact I didn't make the charge.

I think I might get "screwed" trying to use the VGCs on my taxes. Which I guess means I have to hit up the FDs. Good thing my son is back to skating at the rink that has a FD on the way because I swear the closest one is always at it's daily max whenever I go there. I'm only allowed 3 "swipes" every 5 days. I think I've paid down $600. Again, I don't know what day of the week it is, time, etc thanks to this time suck of endless hours in the ICU. Anyways, if the 5 days is true (I honestly thought it was 3), than I'm blocked for 4 more days before I can do $600 again. I currently still owe $1800 and the bill has to be paid in full in 7 days. So I might just have to do 2 GCs and then put the remainder on the card. Ugh I may need to go back because I think I posted on here back in Jan when this happened the "exact rules" my township uses.

Did you hear about the bill congress just proposed to eliminate points/rewards? I guess it passed prior in regards to debit cards and that's why they don't have rewards anymore! Oh hell no!

I've been lucky in getting the late fees removed, but not any interest. GRRRRRR! I only keep my Delta for the free luggage, but I cancelled it this summer hoping to do the Delta Plat Biz. But I'm getting the pop up. I guess it's a good thing my BF is making me be a carry on girl, LOL.
I pay my Property Taxes with VGCs. I have found with my system that I have to do 198.50, then 198.00 and 197.50.... so it isn't the same amount each time. Not sure if yours is like that. Then I put the small remainder in my Amazon account or like yesterday swipe at costco - 16 cents! I used 4 VGCs at Costco yesterday to use up small amounts.

Chase and Amex adjust it for payments. I haven’t watched close enough on the Amex to know about the credits, I think Amex always takes at least the minimum amount due but I can’t go back and search right now to confirm.

I"m truly in a time suck. I didn't even know this was happening. And normally I make this an assignment for my Engineering classes, lol
for the first time in a few years, I actually watched the whole thing (well had it on the tv while I worked). I didn't even know it was airing the last few years for some reason. I have an 11 Pro Max, I have never had a phone for 3 years before.

Not me. I got the latest SE a year or so ago. Still have a Home button, no face ID, smallish screen. No headphone jack but got the dongle thing for music. I will keep this as long as it works. Had to give up my old SE after many years because it just wouldn't hold a charge any more.

So if my math is right, she is at least 19 or 20 years old. GO!!!!!!! Heck I leave my kids now and they are 13 and 17, LOL. And my 17yo thought I was the meanest mom in the world for not letting her fly or drive to NYC alone last month to see Harry Styles, LOL.

As others have said, she is an adult and is about to be "in the real world". I know staying home alone can suck/be scary....but it sounds like others can check on her if needed. If she was still in BioChem, would she be away? On her own and caring for herself? If so, view this as no different!

Tough love time, LOL. Also I see my neighbors who have their son still living at home who HAS to be the same age as my BF now or close (between 37-40) AND he has a teaching job! I keep telling my kids, I'm not raising a "Johnny" LOL.

She turned 20 in May. She will be in a dorm room at Dalhousie and had her own apartment for the past year (which we will be paying for until the end of April).

I think my heart is telling me to go and she seems okay with it now (last week she wanted me to stay). My son said "GO"! The Al Maha said they would waive the cancellation penalty (1 nights accommodation). They would like me to cancel right away but I just can't do it. I don't want to book the trip again.

If anyone would care to chime in with what they would do I'd appreciate any advice.

Dd decided to take a semester off from biochemical engineering and apply to Bioveterinary sciences at Dalhousie U (and was accepted) in Halifax, starting in January. She was offered a job at the vet clinic (where she was shadowing the vet several hours a week during the summer) and works 23 hours / week. She is also taking 2 online courses so that she can start directly in 3rd year in biovet sciences in January.

So, my dilemma is that I booked my trip to the Maldives, Dubai and Singapore to coincide with her leaving for school (supposed to leave on September 17). Dd has indicated that she'd like me to stay home to look after her (make breakfast, lunch and dinner for her) and also she doesn't fancy being in the house alone (even though ds said he could stay or pop in for dinner whenever she wants). Dh is always traveling so he cannot be relied on to stay with her. She has decided that she wants to see her BFF in NYC (attends NYU) for a few nights and I'm not crazy about her flying there and staying in a hotel by herself (apparently Moxy East Village is close to NYU).

I can re-book for February BUT the Al Maha would be 480k points for 5 nights (I have it booked for 355k) and the Ritz Carlton Maldives would be 476,000 (I have it booked for 414k). I don't have the points to re-book, so I'd have to buy points and cut my stay at Al Maha to 3 nights to make a February trip work. I was able to get flights on points in February (1st on Etihad going there, 1st on Qatar on the leased Cathay Pacific planes and first on Oman Air to London to meet ds for an Arsenal game in early March). I just can't seem to bring myself to cancel the trip. I am so conflicted.

WWYD?
I get it, as moms we want to be there for our kids whenever they need us. For me the question would be if I could enjoy the trip as it's currently scheduled. If so then yes I'd go ahead with it. If it would eat away at me to be gone in September such that I couldn't truly be "away from it all" then I would reschedule. Is your DD independent enough at school that you don't worry about her when she's taking classes there? You could stock up on groceries before your trip so that she doesn't have to go out and shop, even get prepared foods for her to heat up, or a food delivery service (is GrubHub or Uber Eats available where you are?). I'm guessing that would be less than buying points (though there is the current MR transfer bonus to Marriott right now in case you didn't factor that in). And if your DS is willing to stay or check in with her whenever she wants, that's a really nice opportunity for them to spend time together without parents around, good for their relationship (hopefully! lol).

I would go. If I remember right you've reworked this trip several times already. A college age DD should be able to stay by herself and travel by herself. I do this with mine now for short times so that we, and they, know they can handle it when they have to. That said, I would also agree with a PP that if you wouldn't enjoy the trip knowing that DD was home alone then don't do it.
I hadn't read about that, but I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to tax the value of redemptions somehow. Much like how this year the Ticketmaster/Stubhub/Etc is going to issue 1099s for anyone with sales of over $600 (I forget what the minimum was before). I'm not looking forward to trying to figure all that since they are just going to report the total sales, not minus original prices from what I understand. I should have started a spreadsheet. I don't have a TON of sales, but did sell some Hamilton tickets for a profit, though I've also sold smaller shows for a small loss.
Yes, this has become DH's "business" this past year and most of what he sells, he has purchased from a different vendor. When he was so excited about his earnings I reminded him that it will be taxed so don't get too excited. Still probably won't end up making a huge difference when the final tax bill comes.

When do you have to make a decision by? Can you let it sit for a but longer? I find sometimes that helps me clarify what the right decision is.

I did the same….like the smaller screen and home button…all I use the phone for is texting and calls…..use my iPad mini for everything else

If your DD is old enough for the college, etc, then she's old enough to manage jut fine without you there for a bit. She sounds pretty independent and like a strong girl, it's just one more grownup thing she'll be doing. I'd 100% go on the trip as planned.

Please don't cancel your trip or reschedule it for more points! It's such a bucket list trip and you've already had to reschedule this (I think, maybe even multiple times?). Go and really enjoy yourself and be proud of the amazingly accomplished daughter you've raised.
