Is there a thread or website that has tips on how to max out the 5% categories for chase freedoms? I'm a newbie trying to learn
What do you want to know? The categories right now are gas stations and home improvement stores. The max is $1500 spend per quarter. Lowes and Home Depot sell gift cards which could help max out the current category. Though 5% is not super high for GCs.

Quarters usually have at least 1 of home improvement stores, wholesale clubs, Target, Amazon, and Paypal. With the first four you can buy gift cards to help you meet the spend. With Paypal you can create a Paypal key which is a virtual credit card. You set your Freedom as the card when creating the key and every purchase you make will code as Paypal.

I just noticed that Airbnb sells gift cards on their website. If anyone notices an Airbnb offer on any card, please post as we have a couple of stays coming up this summer. Has anyone bought from the website and can confirm whether they code as Airbnb? I know there were offers in 2019. I can't think of any other ways to save on airbnb.
I was going to say, I saw these giftcards at Staples. If you have a CIC or a Staples offer, might be worth it.

DH got his Hilton surpass last May. What are his chances of getting an aspire upgrade offer anytime soon? And I got my no fee Hilton almost a year ago. Do those usually get upgrade offers?
I've had the surpass since 10/2017 and I've never gotten an upgrade offer. I did have the Aspire back in 2019 as well. Did you already get the Aspire SUB once before?

Today’s AMEX newbie question - does AMEX have a tracker that shows your status towards the MSR, like the Chase app does? I poked around on the AMEX app and didn’t see one.
If you hop on chat they'll tell you :) That said, I feel I had a tracker showing for my Everyday upgrade I just finshied.

Chicago trip tips??? I think we've settled on going there, since neither of us have been. Where should we stay? I have some Marriott Points. Any absolute must dos? I definitely want to go to the field museum (looks like they'll have a Marvel exhibit the week we're there!). We'd also love to catch a Cubs game but I know tickets are hard to come by.
Love Chicago. Might have to drag the BF there this summer as I haven't been in over a year. Architecture tour is a MUST. It's a field trip I take my students on every year. Chicago line has free starbucks and cookies, LOL. I think I've done all of the companies at this point. I like staying close to/on Michigan Ave. I've stayed at the Sheraton on the river, and the W at Navy Pier. Also the Intercontinental on Mich Ave oh and the Waldorf. Others have mentioned the food. Obv, must get a deep dish Pizza. There are a few speakeasy's if you're into that. If you're into architecture try and do one of the FLW tours. I've done both the home/studio and the robie house. Hit up the Sears Tower, or the Hancock. I like the Cubes at the Sears, I think the Hancock has "the tilt". The art museum is nice. We used to show Ferris Buellers Day Off on the bus on the way to Chicago. The year we did the art museum, we found all the kids at the reenacting the scene starring at the painting, LOL. It's one of my fav cities! Shedd's can be good, the museums, etc. You really can't go wrong.

I just took the Hilton offer to upgrade from the Surpass to the Aspire. Question - when will the start date be for meeting the $4k spend? Do I have to wait for the new cards to come (not sure why I even need a new card since it's an upgrade) or the next day? I have a few payments I'd like to make but want to use them for the required spend. Thanks!

Should be good once you see the upgrade reflected online. I think that takes around 24 hours. You can still use the old card.

As a Chicago area native, I can tell you there is loads to do and the city is planning on being fully open by July. As for places to stay, I've never stayed in the city so can't help there. Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, Lincoln Park Zoo, Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, and the Art Institute are all great. Cubs and Sox, Chicago Fire Soccer all playing. Michigan Avenue for shopping. Navy Pier, Chicago River architecture tour (available on Chase travel portal) Loads of great restaurants. Outside the city, Brookfield Zoo, Morton Arboretum, Chicago Botanic Garden.

I listed a bunch of stuff in my post and totally forgot Frank. I love love love Wright. In college, a million years ago, I took an architectural history course which counted towards history requirements. My final paper was on Wright's Home and Studio in Oak Park. Even today, I have an architectural drawing of one of his Oak Park homes in my dining room.

What is the Waldorf Astoria like? Would you recommend? Or do you prefer the W or Sheraton?

No neither of us have had the aspire. I really want DH to apply for it but I was hoping for an upgrade offer to try to get the SUB twice.

How long did you have your surpass before you got the upgrade offer?

Museum of Science and Industry- definitely do the U Boat/Sub tour
Millennium Park
Maggie Daley Park for splash pads and playgrounds
Navy Pier is popular
Shedd aqaurium is popular

If you have any type of local museum pass, there is often reciprocity which will get you into Field museum or other museums for free.

I am a fan of Kimpton hotels (IHG) and they have several in Chicago. Maybe check out their ambassador program- it might make sense if you have a planned IHG or Kimpton stay.

Looks like TPG took out the $15 part and put this:
"The exact daily food & beverage credit amounts will range depending on the brand and location. The credit is availableper room. Hilton will announce more details in the coming weeks."
(Typo theirs lol.)

We're booked for the Grand Wailea in July. I would hope it's at least $40, which is what they're giving now.

$15 is one Acai bowl, so, you’re right, definitely not equivalent!

So I just took the plunge and went for the offer to add biz platinum for the second time this year. Too bad this one didn’t waive the AF like the first one. After this SUB I’ll have over 400k MRs. Thinking I’ll be looking into Schwab plat but really need to read up on how that works. Is it a hard card to get approved for? And is it personal or biz? And what comes first- brokerage account or card?

So is there any way to double dip the Dell credits if I wait to apply next month?- I probably won’t because I’m afraid the offer will disappear. But if I applied mid to late June could I possibly get the first Dell credit in June and the second right away in July and then cancel in time to have the AF refunded? Or is that not possible or something I shouldn’t try to do?
I think @wanderlust7 got your answer, but yes it would be possible to get 4 of the $100 Dell credit by waiting, but as others have mentioned the offer could disappear at any time, so I wouldn't risk it for an extra $100 of Dell. But in the future it is possible to get an extra credit with only paying one af. With Dell being semiannual you can apply in June and get 4 credits. Or applying in December can get you 3 airline credits.

Yes worrying about it disappearing is why I ended up going for it (about 5 min ago haha) instead of waiting. Wasn’t worth the risk for one potential extra Dell credit.

... Went 2 years ago for cma fest so a lot was thee. This is for a wedding!
Just the bars along Broad St, have such great music. Wasn't a big country fan but am more now. Did the Hall of fame, toured the Ryman. Marty's Barbeque was amazing. I did buy boots. but not at the stores with the greeat "deals" they were cheap looking

the atmosphere is great, a clean New Orleans
I was once asked to sing on-stage at the Grand Ole Opry (during my tour of the Ryman, while we were all standing on stage, the guide asked us all to sing something) ;)

Nice!! Congrats!! I still think that 100K Biz Plat with waived af is my favorite, but this is a close second. You are similar to where P2 was. I ended up getting him the Schwab Plat last month and have cashed everything out. Yes, first get the brokerage account. There is a small $100 bonus you could get from a support, but they have upped the amount needed, so I didn't get anything. The Schwab Plat is a personal card and you apply for that after opening the brokerage account. It's just as easy as other AmEx to get approved for.

Looks like DoC just updated and is saying $25 for WA, so with a guest it should be $50. We'll be there in August and honestly this may work better than breakfast for me. With a family of 5 we'll probably just eat something easy in the room and then save up the credits for dinner. I doubt it, but I have 2 rooms, wonder if I'd still just get the $50.

DH has an upgrade offer on his Surpass but I don’t see anywhere that mentions an MSR and points. How were you able to tell? I’d have to him an Aspire first before taking the upgrade.
