I love credit cards so much! v4.0 - 2021 (see first page for add'l details)

If you close your CSR, you'll have to wait 30 days to apply. Better to downgrade it, then you just have to wait 4 days. Plus you can upgrade it back to a CSR if you wanted to down the road.

Oh, gosh! Thank you so much for saving me from myself. :love:For some reason I thought it was four days either way.

Now to decide what to downgrade to. I already have two regular Freedoms, and don’t feel the need for another, as I never max out the bonuses each quarter as it is.

Looking at booking southwest tickets for spring break. A few days late, but it’s been insane at work.

Considering companion passes this winter- either one or possibly two if I can talk DH into it.

Can I book all 4 tickets together? Book 2 and 2? It’s super annoying to book kids under 12 separately….

I echo what @wanderlust7 says about downgrading your CSR to one of the Freedoms rather than closing it. Plus you'll get a prorated refund of the AF. Also, if you did that then you'd have a $1000 credit balance on that new product; if it's a Freedom that earns 5x at grocery stores right now, then just buy stuff at the grocery store and you'll earn 5x that should also offset your negative 3000 pts.

I thought I saw somewhere Oct. 17 (?) as the end date for the 100K CSP offer, but I can't find where I saw it so I make no promises. The support links tend to last a little while after the public links are taken down. I'm hoping it works out for me because my 48 months comes up on Oct 19!

When does your $300 CSR travel credit reset?

Travel credit resets in December.

Hope you can get your CSP in October!

Next question. I do not have any Citi Thank You earning cards and I'm thinking of applying for the Citi Premier. I am 2/24 so I have plenty of room for a personal card, but what can you tell me about using Thank You points? I'm interested in this card because it looks like it has a nice bonus and I need a card with 1) no foreign transaction fees and 2) a very nice credit limit, so given the stingy business limits lately, I need a personal card.
Well that sucked...Instant approval but only got $5.6K limit. Hardly seems worth the pull for my purposes.

ETA: So I'm wondering can I overpay my bill (before it is due) so I have a larger balance than I need to pay my expense?

I am planning for Hawaii September 2022 (3-17) and have questions. I've tried to search the forum for the answers since I know we discuss Hawaii trip planning using cards/points, so forgive me if these are repeats or just point me in the right direction! Thank you in advance!

I'd like to visit Kauai, Oahu, and Maui. We are coming from the East Coast (NC). We could travel anywhere from 10-14 days for this trip and wondering if a stop in CA on our return would be beneficial. I'm thinking yes, but not sure. How many nights on each island? Should we only focus on 2 islands (for us I would likely choose Kauai and Oahu)?
  • What can/should I book now? Everything will need to be refundable and changeable for us since DH work is not as predictable this far out. Is that possible if I use points? I'd like to book Grand Hyatt (Kauai); have the WOH card and Globalist status. When making the reservations, I need to go ahead and have/use all of the points to make the reservation now, correct? I've priced it out and it's 25K per night, so those 100K points would sit there for that reservation for a year? Or will they only hold the reservation with a CC and then I use the points when we confirm/check in next fall?

  • I'd like Marriott Ko'Olina and we have points but looking both in the Chase travel portal and direct on Marriott there are no points bookings available. Is that accurate? Have I already missed the window to book that room on points a year out or have they not been released yet?

  • Will we miss out completely if we choose not to stay at Aulani while we are there? I know people do a split stay but my people are already going to struggle I'm afraid with so much change doing island hopping. If I throw in a hotel change on the same island, I'm not sure they'll be pleasant. Should we choose to stay at Aulani only and not Ko'Olina? Not DVC so I don't have points for Aulani so that would be a cash stay.

  • Wailea Beach Resort is available with points on Maui as is the Hyatt Regency. They appear to be on different sides of the island so I'm not sure if one is better than the other. Something I should consider here? I know Grand Wailea is often referenced but we don't have points or cards w/ Hilton. Should that be my next card to start earning those or will the other two I've listed work just as well? I'm 4/24 (CSP/CSR, Amex Plat, Hyatt)

Thank you again for offering advice! I feel like I've worked hard in the last year to earn the points, but now I'm not as confident on how to actually use them most efficiently.

I prefer to do a week for each island. There is plenty to do on all of them.

As Globalist, you can do a points advance reservation if you don't have enough points. You'll need the points in your account 7 days before. Since DH is Globalist lite (no concierge), I did it through the Twitter Hyatt concierge. It was very easy. We liked the Grand Hyatt Kauai a lot and having access to the club was great.

I want to thank everyone here for being so helpful with this points journey. Have not traveled internationally in several years and always paid for international tickets (or took free military hops but those are on hold right now due to Covid). After 2 long phone calls to Chase, was able to combine DH's UR points to my CSR. Most of his are biz cards since May 2021 (CIP, CIC, and earning the bonus now on CIU) which they said would not transfer, but thank god he had a CF and the rep was able to transfer all of his UR's to his CF, and then to my CSR. He is still a reluctant P2 and we've only had his biz cards all opened at our local Chase bank thru the manager for our actual biz, which we have no trouble meeting the spend from the biz expenses on the Chase biz cards. I'm finishing up my spend on the United Quest for the 100,000 points which I opened 6/7/2021. I would really like to get another CP for 2022/2023. MIne expires in Dec, and I've only used it a few times since March 2020. This time, I'm thinking of doing sole proprietor in my name and ss# around Nov/December. Has that been fairly easy to do with the SW biz card? SW gave me a biz card using the company TIN back in May 2019, (card was cancelled in May 2021), but denied a CIC in 2021 so thought I would use my own "biz". Or would I be better off doing a MDD with 2 personal SW cards? I'll be 2/5 in October. Would appreciate any feedback! :-)

Thank you for posting this! I had no idea advance points reservations were a thing with Hyatt. I typically just move URs to cover any gaps But nice to know there is another option.

We've been to Honolulu and Maui. If I had to do it over again, I would do Maui and Kauai, perhaps adding in a few nights at Aulani at the end. If you are using points, many of have book four nights, get the fifth free, so I might be inclined to do 5 nights, 5 nights, 3-4 nights.

Since you are one year out, my main focus would be on securing your airline and hotel points reservations asap, as those are likely opening right about now.

We loved, loved the Wailea area. We did stay at the WA Grand Wailea, but I've heard good things about the Wailea Beach Resort. The Amex Hilton Aspire card was really beneficial for that trip. Since you are 4/24, perhaps consider a biz card if you'd like to stay under 5/24.

If you want to do Aulani, you can also rent points through David's or the Rental Store, or rent points from someone on Disboards, rather than pay cash direct to Aulani. When you rent points, you are pretty "locked in" though, so if you need flexibility, don't go this route.

Not sure who is in your traveling party, and I know you are already concerned about the island hopping and moving around. I felt that same way about my family, but now we like to move every 3-5 nights. I personally would not add in a stop in CA. You are likely going to be so jet lagged; I would just get there and settle in.

Do Disney e-gift cards purchased on Disney online code as Disney or is a third party? Trying to use a Chase offer for Disney online.

For those that have used points to fly to Europe in lie flat seats, how hard are those to find for 60,000 points or so one way? I need flights for 2 from Houston to London around September 1, 2022 for a DCL cruise leaving on the 4th from Dover. I'm looking at United but open to other airlines. I have UR points and Capitol One miles.

Try Virgin Atlantic. Looks like their flight schedule is open through mid Aug 2022 right now. Upper Class lie flat seat for 87.5k = $274 in taxes. I even think there is a 30% transfer bonus through Amex right now, but it looks like you don't have MR. But Virgin Atlantic transfers from UR.

(Note this is for Aug 10 bc their points schedule is open yet for Sept 1, so .)

Another option is British Airways. The schedule is already open for your dates and there are biz class seats available as of right now for 75k Avios and $729 in taxes/fees, nonstop. Chase is offering a 30% transfer bonus through 9/26, so that's like paying 58k.

I would always use Google Flights or search the airline directly to confirm that the flight you are selecting has lie flat seats. I like to use Award Hacker to help me narrow down which points programs to search. Good luck!!

The Amex Hilton Aspire card was really beneficial for that trip. Since you are 4/24, perhaps consider a biz card if you'd like to stay under 5/24.
I’ll look into this! I do have a small consulting business as an LLC and I’ve never gotten a business specific card so I could use it for this purpose. I also thought I read about transferring my MR to Hilton as well.

Thank you for your helpful feedback! I also like the 5, 5, 3-4 configuration. My travel party is just myself, DH, DD but while all of us really enjoy travel, none of us enjoy lots of people or frequent change 🤣

Have very big bills coming up. Looking for a good card(s) with a big SUB?

Sadly I'm 5/24 and pretty sure wife is too (so looks like a CIP & Hyatt are out)
Already have the Amex Gold and 2 Plats

Thanks!

When I added my PPK card to Verizon it said it was a debit card even though it was my CIC. I'm pretty sure PPK is a debit card so it shouldn't matter where you use it.
Does it show up on your CIC as Verizon or PayPal? I'd really like to get the $10 autopay discount but need the charge to show up on my CFF as Verizon in order to keep the insurance.

We stayed at Marriott Beach Resort-great location ,long beach path connects all the hotels there....you will LOVE it. I know we enjoyed wandering over at the Grand gardens on our visit....it's sooooooo beautiful in that section of the island.

Dh and I have been getting some decent cc offers from companies we’ve never used before. He just got a Regions cc and the offer was spend $1,000 get $300 back. We’ll probably continue some of these for awhile because we’re already over 5/24
