Mine didn't either. We called it a crochet hook.
I went to the hospital at midnight for child #3 and got a rather snarky "Do you really think you're in labor?" from the nurse, probably because I was 5 weeks early. No, I really enjoy leaving my toddlers at home, calling my mom to watch them at midnight, just so I can add to your workload, for fun. I was given drugs to try and stop it, but it didn't work and he was born the next day. I didn't see her after the initial eval, but hoped she got the news. So my advice to Haley is trust your own judgment!
With my son, they were trying to send me home an hour and a half before he was born.
My oldest will be 30 in June. She was born 3 weeks past my due date. I used certified nurse midwives at a freestanding birth center. They did an ultrasound at 2 weeks past, and everything was fine. They would have done an induction at 3 weeks but I went into labor the night before. Long labor, she really did not want to be born! Other 2 kids popped right out (and both late, but not as late as #1).
