If you guys can believe it... tourists continue to roll in & then complain when what they wanted to do is closed :rotfl: The absolute arrogance of it is astounding. I don’t care if it’s your “once in a lifetime” trip. It could be the end of someone else’s life. You can reschedule & come back when all the things you wanted to do are... you know... open. Stay home.

Sure wish they would close the borders & cancel the Olympics, effective yesterday, but those decisions are a bit above my pay grade
My cousin and his wife left for Thailand this week. They have 3 kids at home under the age of 4. No one could believe they were still going. They said they had been planning it for too long and wanted to go

Picked the "angry" emoji because people are dumb, not at you :) I got an email from Chase last week - "Enter for a chance to win a trip to the 2020 Olympics!" I was like, "um, Chase...read the room."
I got the same email, or one like it. I facepalmed in real life.

There is new evidence that a subset of young children could become seriously/fatally ill if infected. I don’t understand the people who make these decisions. As my friend would say: “Where is brain? Brain in colon.”

@wendow and anyone else who was worrying (maybe @snugglebug) about borrowed points. It looks like DVC updated its policy again today and they are putting borrowed points back in the UY they came from. So I would hurry up and cancel before they change their mind again.
Thank you, thank you! I was reading everything I could, then went to help DS mow the yard and came in to this lol I have screenshots and I'm headed in the cancel now. I'm going to go ahead and bank my 2019 points. If I need to extend July, I'll borrow back in later on that when I know I need to. At least, that's the plan for this minute.

Edit: I'm almost afraid to hit cancel because the cancellation page doesn't reflect what the notification says.

It would be nice if these credit card company’s could do their part to help out. Like wave the annual fees for the year.

Why? That wouldn't help anything and there are carda with an af. To me a card with an af is a luxury if I can't pay it then I'll pc or cancel, I wouldn't expect the cc companies to foot my bill.

I have no idea what they were thinking. My mom and I were talking about it recently.

A lot of companies are changing policies and fees to help people that are losing income with the shutdown, but you are right we can just cancel our cards and many people will. It would be a nice gesture on their part, but I'm not going to get in a debate about it. I know credit card churners try to get the annual fees waived and retention bonus's anyway.

I think you will probably have to call to get it all squared away, at least with regards to the borrowed points.

It'd be far more practical for them to waive late fees than annual fees. That would help everyone with a card, not just the cards with an af.

I would call if the wait times aren’t too bad now. I can’t remember what your deadline is for cancelling.

Does anybody here in our group have an upcoming Disney resort stay on RENTED DVC points??
No. I have my own points. But as an attorney, I have to say, what a mess! I haven’t looked at any of the rental contracts floating around out there or the ones that the rental agencies use, but I bet that each provides different terms for how it will work out for the involved parties. Contrary to a lot of “discussion board attorneys” who seem to think the situation is black and white, it is anything but that and should be interesting, and unfortunate in some cases, to see how it plays it out.

Ugh, I don't know what to do about our end of May DVC stay! I was pretty much ready to cancel this morning, then listened to a disunplugged podcast that made me hopeful WDW might reopen by May. Our trip is using borrowed 2021 points so it would be great to have them returned to the original UY. But I really want to go! Tues is our 60 day mark, I should try and decide before then.

I do. Not till December, but that falls squarely in double dip range. Mine is directly through the owner though and this type of incedent is covered in the agreement, so I at least know what to expect. I had a deposit with the big rental companies. Thank god they didn't have the points. lol

I too have an end of May stay (Memorial day). I am not cancelling it until Disney actually makes the call to be closed for that time. I’m not cancelling because at this time, I think Disney will be back open by then. The CDC guidelines were for 8 weeks. I’m in the Army and the DoD placed domestic travel restrictions on us until May 11th which is inline with the CDC guidelines. If the DoD extends those travel restrictions then that will be my signal to start worrying about the Memorial Day Trip as the DoD is likely to keep them in place if the CDC continues to recommend the restrictive measures they are recommending now. I’m basically using the DoD travel restrictions as my bell weather because if it is serious enough for the entire Department of Defense to stop movement for all personnel during the busiest movement time (summer) then it is very unlikely that the situation will be in a state where Disney World will be open. Also, if the travel restrictions aren’t lifted, I can’t travel more than 140 miles from where I am stationed, so I don’t really have a choice. :rolleyes1

It’s definitely a super tough situation! I really feel for everybody in that situation right now!!

Me too. Especially because I highly doubt any of the parties contemplated something like this happening. It’s one thing to have a contract and put certain provisions in that contract, but’s it’s another thing when the unthinkable (Disney World, to include all hotels, closing for an extended period of time) happens.

I think this is one of those times when you can judge. The rest of the family is...

Family always judges. :hyper2: Family is the worst at judging and holding other members of the family to higher standards than they hold themselves. But maybe that's just my dad's side of the family :rolleyes1

This does warrant being judged but it's still their decision whether we agree with it or not. I do try and see both sides and not judge but sometimes it's hard but also, I don't care if you judge me and my decisions because most of the time that's your problem not mine.

I'm sure this will go in future contracts now. It's like warning labels on products that make you scratch your head. I imagine it's on there because someone did it not because someone thought it up. I still shack my head at the curling iron's warning for external use only knowing it was probably plugged in too
