Holy smokes. Just checked gas prices at Costco. $1.59!! Gone down 40 cents in a week.

Yikes. Just saw oil is down to $20/barrel. I'm glad we're all getting a break on our personal spending on gas but I think this is going to be really, really hard on the O&G industry here in Houston. Which always reverberates out to the rest of the local economy - layoffs, dips in home value, etc. I'm glad my dad is about to retire from his O&G job and he made it through the last recession ok.

Sigh. I need some more ice cream.

Family always judges. :hyper2: Family is the worst at judging and holding other members of the family to higher standards than they hold themselves. But maybe that's just my dad's side of the family :rolleyes1

This does warrant being judged but it's still their decision whether we agree with it or not. I do try and see both sides and not judge but sometimes it's hard but also, I don't care if you judge me and my decisions because most of the time that's your problem not mine.

I'm sure this will go in future contracts now. It's like warning labels on products that make you scratch your head. I imagine it's on there because someone did it not because someone thought it up. I still shack my head at the curling iron's warning for external use only knowing it was probably plugged in too
The problem is are they gonna come back and just not see their kids for two weeks? Because technically they should self quarantine. They live in a small town with lots of family members, including my parents. I’m just hoping they take it seriously.

I would call if the wait times aren’t too bad now. I can’t remember what your deadline is for cancelling.
Banking deadline is end of this month so I still have a few days. I've put thought into it and decided I'll cancel and wait. Then as we near the end of the month I'll contact them if needed.

Ugh, I don't know what to do about our end of May DVC stay! I was pretty much ready to cancel this morning, then listened to a disunplugged podcast that made me hopeful WDW might reopen by May. Our trip is using borrowed 2021 points so it would be great to have them returned to the original UY. But I really want to go! Tues is our 60 day mark, I should try and decide before then.
I'm not an expert, but I'm hoping they open mid to late May. I know how you're feeling and it's so not fun to waffle back and forth all day trying to figure out what to do.

I too have an end of May stay (Memorial day). I am not cancelling it until Disney actually makes the call to be closed for that time. I’m not cancelling because at this time, I think Disney will be back open by then. The CDC guidelines were for 8 weeks. I’m in the Army and the DoD placed domestic travel restrictions on us until May 11th which is inline with the CDC guidelines. If the DoD extends those travel restrictions then that will be my signal to start worrying about the Memorial Day Trip as the DoD is likely to keep them in place if the CDC continues to recommend the restrictive measures they are recommending now. I’m basically using the DoD travel restrictions as my bell weather because if it is serious enough for the entire Department of Defense to stop movement for all personnel during the busiest movement time (summer) then it is very unlikely that the situation will be in a state where Disney World will be open. Also, if the travel restrictions aren’t lifted, I can’t travel more than 140 miles from where I am stationed, so I don’t really have a choice. :rolleyes1
I have those same travel restrictions on this May trip so I know I have to cancel (May 1-4). I am so hoping DOD doesn't extend. This waiting game is killing me. I'm a person who likes a plan, and I like to know what to expect. Military spouse life was not so easy for me lol

Remember when we used to be so excited about the SW free change loophole?? Way back in...oh like 2 weeks ago... 😂 😢 (I laugh so I don’t cry lol)

This has been the longest week I can recall for quite a while, and it's only Wednesday.

So far covid19 has cost me about $1,000 (although I might get some back from my employer). Yesterday my phone was being wonkier than usual battery-wise, going from 75% charged to 15% charged in a matter of minutes. I realized that with the possibility of more things here getting shut down (we are to the point of restricting restaurants to take out and delivery), I really needed to fix the phone situation now. So I drove out to the Apple store to see about getting the battery replaced. Somehow I missed the news item that Apple decided to close its stores until March 27. So no new battery. We have a family cellphone contract with ATT so I ended up with an iPhone 8 for about $400. Then today I ordered a multi-function printer/scanner plus a fancy set of headphones with a microphone so I can work at home (the printer and headphones I should be able to get reimbursed for, but not sure when).

My kids are worried about their jobs and school plans for this summer but I am trying to make myself take this one day at a time.

ETA churning content: And of course, at the moment I have no MSR :(

My rapid reward points from my SW Premier Biz still aren't in my RR account (therefore no CP yet for me!). I had called Chase a few days ago, and they said they were transferred on the 11th. I called SW today and their rep was pretty clueless. At first she said my RR account doesn't update until the 6th. I said, no, this is for a different cc. Then she said well, basically, she couldn't do anything, because Chase hadn't sent them yet. I thanked her and hung up and called Chase back. The Chase rep was very helpful, she put in a request to their marketing team to manually transfer the points, and that I should see them in a few business days. Fingers crossed! I have more speculative bookings to make! I keep pushing them further and further out...
Quoting myself to give an update - my RR points are in my account! Also have my CP now! Yay! Thank you Chase!

My employer is mainly an O&G company and I'm getting worried. It's involved in many industries and very strong financially, but there's only so much and so long things can last until they start cutting back.

Thanks! I'm going to keep it for now. We'll just have to wait and see how everything goes.

I saw an article saying that WDW is considering reopening with restrictions, such as having less rides, no fireworks/parades, mobile ordering only for CS, and no face character M&G's. I think depending on which rides are open, we'd probably still go with these restrictions. I understand why for many people they wouldn't be ok with this, if this were a once in a lifetime trip. For us, since right now we're lucky enough to go yearly, and we already have AP's and have pretty much everything paid for via points and discounted DGC's, we might as well still go. Fingers cross for all of us that it works out for the best!

Does anybody here in our group have an upcoming Disney resort stay on RENTED DVC points??

We rented out points at Boardwalk May 23-25. Hoping it's all cleared up by then.

If not I really feel bad for this family, because they were originally booked when the hurricane was coming. Their stay would have been dry all but for the last day (I know because we stayed in their reservation), but recall this was the one that was predicted to hit a week earlier, then just stalled out.

Guess I should preemptively book another time later in the year for them, just in case.

Soooooo-

in the event I end up having to cancel my November Japan trip....

either I cancel of my own volition, or the decision is taken from me by either a government (ours or Japan's), or by the airline (ANA).

The flights were booked on ANA but with Chase URs transferred to Virgin.

Assuming I get any points/miles back at all, where will they end up and what kind of penalties am I looking at?

@wendow and anyone else who was worrying (maybe @snugglebug) about borrowed points. It looks like DVC updated its policy again today and they are putting borrowed points back in the UY they came from. So I would hurry up and cancel before they change their mind again.
Thank you for the update! Do I need to call MS for this or can I cancel online?

I am cringing about cancelling May but I know it's not gonna happen. My dd, who is on her way home from the DCP, said word around Disney is that they will not be open until end of May, at the earliest. My aunt is a TA and said she's being told not to expect regular travel to begin until July. She is primarily booking cruises and those would be later to get going, it seems so anyways...

Just want to say I 'loved' the first part of your post but I don't love the second. I'm so sorry and I hope you can hold onto our job. I'm worried about my dh's job as well. Trying not to think too far out and just praying this is over with sooner rather than later, for all of our sakes.

So, my dd19 is currently in Temple, TX for a couple days. They left wdw yesterday, stayed last night in P'cola with family of her friend and then drove straight today to TX. She was supposed to stay with the friend's family but apparently, the sister of friend is under quarantine. She hung out a lot with her friend and friend's mom who have now tested ++. Sister is quarantined and the rest of the family. So, my dd and her friend are staying with the grandparents and then heading out here. Friend is going to stay with us until the house is no longer quarantined but I think that is a minimum of two weeks...? This is all just so crazy. I hope I have enough TP :scared:

Same thing with food allergy kids—-I was never so worried as when older dd was 16/17!
Yep, we found out that dd19 was anaphylactic to peanuts at 18 mos when she first went into anaphylaxis. I carefully monitored every bite that went into her mouth and some of of the first words she learned to read at 4yo was "contain peanuts". She was hyper about what she ate and what those around her were eating. She'd sit at a table alone eating if someone else was eating peanuts at the main table. I patted myself on the back for how well I had trained her to be aware of her allergy. Then, two days before her 16th b-day, she ate a homemade treat at school without asking the ingredients (major no-no!) and sure enough, it contained peanuts and she went into anaphylaxis. Her throat began to close and she had to use her Epi-Pen. Ambulance came and when I met with the EMT's, one of the first things they told me was about how they respond to more calls like this in 14-18yo's than any other age and more kids die from their food allergies in that age range. They begin to think they are invincible and while they believe they may have had an allergy at some point, they aren't completely sure it's still as bad and therefore are less concerned with what they eat.

That’s good. And I am a planner too. I think that’s what’s given me so much stress about the whole situation. The unknown.

So far I have canceled our hotel for our April DL trip but can't make myself pull the trigger on canceling our SW flights.

And now I hear Australia has closed their borders. This is the trip I will be heartbroken if it needs to be canceled. Please, please, please let things be better by 7/30.
