My parents are at their rental house in Florida where they spend the winter. I can’t decide whether to tell them to start driving home or not. Their from Long Island where there’s a fair outbreak going, although Florida’s going pretty well too.

If they came home I could drive the 3 hours every week and drop off groceries for them. I work in healthcare, so I’m the designated outside of the house person.

They’d need at least one if not two overnight stops. They would have to head home by March 31st no matter what.

This whole situation has me a whole ball of anxiety. And of course I’m supposed to be the calm rational one in the family so everyone keeps asking me for advice.

Is is like July or August yet?

I'm guessing your parents are a bit older than I am. (Not 70 yet!) I would say if their lease ends March 31st, it's only 2 weeks. It's a crapshoot as to whether there will be more exposure there or more exposure back in Long Island.

Drive 3 hours to drop off groceries? Do you think they will stay isolated? I'd probably opt for a delivery service and hook their phones up with WhatsApp or whatever the iPhone people use.

I'm actually concerned about my grands and their preschool. It's private so not closing that we know off. They will be exposed to a larger number of children if they continue to attend, and though children are not at as much risk, does this mean I have to stay away from them for my own safety? Precautions in the school are in place, but these are 3,4,5 year olds. They are going to touch.

I'll be with them all this week starting tomorrow. After this week, I may have to stand back a little. We will see.

UA appears to have doubled mile prices for gift cards...

Anyone who thinks they might want to redeem miles for gift cards on another carrier should do so STAT. I expect everyone to follow. Airlines are fighting for survival now. (I know it's not a good redemption normally but sometimes people find themselves with a bunch of airline miles they aren't gonna use.)

But I did forget the eggs in all my grocery shopping last week :scared: thankfully I'm not a baker so not like they're super necessary... although now for some reason I wish I'd picked up nestle choc chip cookie dough... I remembered the staples and booze but desserts got left out for some reason... I was Adulting too good apparently :rotfl2:

I have 2 18 count cartons and I am worried that is not enough! We go through a lot of eggs. But I guess we are 5 (hopefully tomorrow we will be 5 again) and you are only 1. Hmm, that is only about 7 eggs per person not counting brownies that i plan on making and some has already been eaten. Definitely not enough! And DH bought bread without looking at the date so it is already expired. 🤦‍♀️ So will probably french toast that. May brave the stores again tomorrow.

At my house that means dog food, dog treats and diet dr pepper. Y'all don't want to know how much diet dr pepper I have. 😁 My excuse is I didn't have any for 3 weeks and am trying to catch up!

I went to order the dog some dry food today and daughter said she would do it with Amazon Prime Fresh. I had pulled the bag up and for me it was $12 more than her offer when she pulled it up, plus if I wanted it 1-2 day delivery, extra for delivery. She was using a trial of Amazon Fresh that they had sent her. Normally I would have gone out and picked it up locally but you know, the lines. We weren't completely out plus had loads of canned stuff, but he loves the dry one we buy.

Chewy had the same price ($12 more) and that's why I checked Amazon to begin with. I might as well just start buying him a steak or a piece of chicken and fix him a plate.

What's the word at your work? Obviously we cannot work from home. I am grateful (financially speaking) to be considered "essential personnel." I know some departments (PD) are only responding in person for emergencies (all "report" calls will be taken by phone). Will be interesting to see my emails when I go back tomorrow night.

So far all of the emails I have seen have said nothing about reducing ofc/reporting party contact. Doesn't surprise me though, our dept is always the last to get the updates or have those kind of decisions made that might be useful. We may self police those calls on our own, depending on the call volume we get. The city has reduced/closed services for all other depts though.

What are napkins??? We call that “square toilet paper” where I’m from these days!! 🤣

We went to a local burger joint for lunch today. They usually have baskets on the table with napkins. When I asked for a few napkins the guy bringing our food, said Oh sorry I forgot we had to take them off the table because everyone was stealing them. Baskets and all. Good grief people if it turns into an apocolypse do you really think grabbing the napkins is going to save your life. 🙄

But... why? United miles no longer expire.

Idk but everyone has different circumstances. Just wanted the info out there in case anyone was considering cashing out any airline’s miles for gift cards.

Seems like the first step in a mileage program’s deval though so if you’ve got your eye on actual flights prob not a bad idea to book sooner rather than later.

I mean, I think a deval is always possible. Bankruptcy remains an outside possibility, but I think the legacy carriers like United are viewed as essential to national security and competition, and would likely get a bailout similar to what happened with GM. It’s possible a mileage program could be scrapped in bankruptcy or its terms changed, but I think a carrier would assume that liability rather than burning that relationship with all their flyers.

I think the government will backstop most* of the major airlines honestly.

Eggs are a problem here, but we finally tracked some down - we eat a lot of eggs. But the bread is almost fully stocked. I'm confused, anytime there's imminent snow people buy bread and eggs, I guess for French toast. Why are they only buying eggs and not bread? Do they have bread in their freezers already due to our lousy winter? I don't understand.

The liquor stores, however, are fully stocked. I dunno what all these other people are doing, but if I might be quarantined, I'm getting the necessities.

Eastern PA is closing their liquor stores Tuesday. I would hate to be a worker there Monday, would think they may get a little crazy. Though apparently you can order online. Did not know that was a thing with alcohol. Unclear on why they are only closing Eastern Pa and not the rest of PA.
