But I did forget the eggs in all my grocery shopping last week :scared: thankfully I'm not a baker so not like they're super necessary... although now for some reason I wish I'd picked up nestle choc chip cookie dough... I remembered the staples and booze but desserts got left out for some reason... I was Adulting too good apparently :rotfl2:

I was able to get cookie dough, chips and beer and wine. All the important stuff. I think I’ll be eating a lot pizza and chick fila the next couple weeks.

yeah...no rhyme or reason at this point.... close the big parks, schools, churches etc....people just congregate at stores and local restaurants.... how is closing the other stuff supposed to help slow the spread?
Its going to be great for our local business. You can’t buy food so you have to eat out.

I felt paranoid for buying the 3 pack of organic ground beef at Costco last week because I still had 1 in the freezer. I feel better now that I did.
I should have bought it yesterday (yes, I've been to Costco twice in two days) but didn't have freezer space.
I don’t know about Florida, but the snowbirds leave here about April 1st. Our hospitals do not run at full capacity in the Summer. We really slow down from May to September, and we still have a lot of retired people that live here year round. We usually close down units and cancel staff. Im not worried about lack of beds or staff in the upcoming months.

I thought about doing a travel gig in Florida last Summer, but their wasn’t any positions open. There busy season is similar to ours. Some of our travel nurses are heading to Seattle for the Corona Virus money.
Snowbirds don't typically leave where my parents live until May. My parents leave around Memorial Day. No way they're going to Northern Michigan in April.

Lack of beds is a very real fear everywhere IMO. And that's not doom and gloom.

I forgot to tell y'all- I had luck getting through to Disney via the AP line to cancel my Mar trip this morning if anyone is trying to get through to them today for March. Person answered when I got through the menu, I didn't even wait.

(However, if you want to discuss tickets or how this affects your AP beyond what they have posted online they have to send to you Tickets and they had a 3 hour wait this morning she said.)

Marriott sent an email with updated change and cancellation policy. Also here's what they are doing for the Bonvoy program:

...we have paused points expiration until August 31, 2020 allowing Members ample time to redeem their points. In addition, we have extended the expiration of suite night awards (SNAs) with an expiration date of December 31, 2020 by one year to December 31, 2021. Lastly, Members who currently have an active Free Night Award (FNA) expiring in 2020 as part of their credit card benefit, annual choice benefit, promotions or travel package will be able to use it through January 31, 2021. We understand that earning status for 2021 may also be on your mind. As the current situation is still evolving, it is too early for us to make any changes. We will keep you updated on all loyalty program changes through our Marriott Bonvoy member benefits website.

The FNC change works for us as we had one I was going to ask to have extended anyway.

As for change/cancel for current or new reservations:

Generally speaking, for guests with existing individual reservations, including reservations with pre-paid rates that are typically more restrictive, we will allow changes or cancellation without a charge up to 24 hours prior to arrival as long as the change or cancellation is made by April 30, 2020. For guests making new individual reservations between today and April 30, 2020, we will allow those reservations to be changed or cancelled at no charge up to 24 hours before a guest's scheduled arrival date. Please visit our website for the most up-to-date information and for additional details about availability and exclusions.
Unfortunately, this FNC extension is probably going to mess up my plan. Last month, I was able to get one FNC extended for a full year and was hoping to do the same with the other one that expires in a few months. I doubt they'll let me extend a certificate that they've already extended.

It’s a problem during every flu season you just don’t hear about it. We get huge surges and we handle it. Theres been times when every hospital is on bypass. We’ve set up tents in parking lots. It’s all hands on deck. We’re actually pretty good at it. There’s no mitigation during flu outbreaks.

Hospitals have been given the leeway to do what they need to do and a lot of regulations have been waived so I think think this is going to make it easier.

Since our population decreases by about 30%. This is happening at an ideal time for our state.

Shutting everything down is supposed to limit the surges. If it doesn’t this was all for nothing. Hopefully it works the way they think it will.

Eggs are a problem here, but we finally tracked some down - we eat a lot of eggs. But the bread is almost fully stocked. I'm confused, anytime there's imminent snow people buy bread and eggs, I guess for French toast. Why are they only buying eggs and not bread? Do they have bread in their freezers already due to our lousy winter? I don't understand.

The liquor stores, however, are fully stocked. I dunno what all these other people are doing, but if I might be quarantined, I'm getting the necessities.

I did not forget the baking supplies...stress eating for sure. More into sweets than alcohol. I’ve got Nestle morsels and supplies for Irish Soda Bread.

I asked my MIL for her Irish soda bread recipe to make that with Irish stew and she never sent it to me. I think she just forgot but I don’t feel like going to the store now for the ingredients

Right? I think people are just buying what others are buying right now. I'm not terribly worried about eggs, like the chickens aren't going on strike.

My parents are at their rental house in Florida where they spend the winter. I can’t decide whether to tell them to start driving home or not. Their from Long Island where there’s a fair outbreak going, although Florida’s going pretty well too.

If they came home I could drive the 3 hours every week and drop off groceries for them. I work in healthcare, so I’m the designated outside of the house person.

They’d need at least one if not two overnight stops. They would have to head home by March 31st no matter what.

This whole situation has me a whole ball of anxiety. And of course I’m supposed to be the calm rational one in the family so everyone keeps asking me for advice.

Is is like July or August yet?
Could you use Amazon fresh or a grocery delivery service, like @gottalovepluto suggested?
Another thought is to reach out to churches in their area. Our church has tons of people who’ve signed up to shop for those who can’t or shouldn’t be out shopping.

Went to Costco this morning, arriving 10 minutes before opening. The lot was pretty full but there were some spaces available at the far corner of the lot. As walked towards the entrance I could see the line of people snaking from the door to the end of the first parking aisle where it swung around and went the entire length of the second aisle, cut across the third aisle to the sidewalk where it ended about half way down the length of that third aisle. I decided not to stay but as I was driving away I decided to head back figuring my best chance at getting what I needed was at a store that was just opening instead of grocery stores that had been open for hours.

Headed back and the line was half the size, moving very quickly. Employees were stationed along the line keeping things in order. Only 400 people were allowed in at one time. The handle of the cart was wiped as I went in. I joined a line for TP that snaked from the back of the warehouse half way towards the front. Two minutes later they ran out of TP so I headed to the back for the two things I wasn’t able to get at Safeway, bananas and eggs. Also picked up dishwasher and laundry detergent, trash bags and, for some reason, a four pound box of butter. Checkout was quick with only about four carts in each line. I was out of there by 10:00.

The food court was serving a limited menu for take out only. All tables and chairs had been removed.

It was a surreal experience. Many people were taking pics of the lines.

Sounds familiar from my trip yesterday except there was still TP when I left but it took me a lot longer to get out of there since it took a long time to pick up the supplies I needed.

Back in the 70ties we had a gas shortage and you had to line up to get gas when a filling station had a delivery come in. We were stationed in South Carolina but had a temp assignment in Rockville for a few weeks (parents were in Bethesda and we stayed with them). Had to line up to get gas to get out of Maryland. This sort of reminds me of that. Now I'm wondering if I should have bought that Charmin yesterday even though I've got about 60 rolls from my normal stockpiling activity and there are only 2 people here.

I buy eggs locally and just got 3 dozen this week. Lucky me!

DL told me it would $150 to get my miles re-deposited on my domestic flights that work under the current covid-2019 waiver a couple nights back. Saw a DP on FT about it working online now for free and I was able to cancel my 3/17 RT to WDW no issues. Well, except for the stupid refund to my Amex for my seat upgrade but one problem at a time for now...

That said I was not able to cancel my 4/26 domestic flight, it just kept erroring out on my laptop and my app tried to charge my $150 so maybe this update is going out in waves.

Ok, I have been out all day, and will try to catch up on the umpteen pages posted LOL, but I just have to share my Target story.
Stopped to get dog food and a couple things before the cartwheel offers expire tomorrow. O M G. No potatoes, lemons, ground beef or chicken of any kind. No pasta, canned fruit, canned beans or tomatoes, soup, mini muffins, shredded cheese, butter, eggs, sour cream, oatmeal and on an on. I am not sure what I am going to get when I go grocery shopping tomorrow. Unless something restocks in the morning, there is pretty much no food at my store. No paper products of any kind, not even napkins. It's insane.

hello to everyone. It was a sad day today. we decided to cancel our Hawaii trip in 2 weeks. I was worried not of the virus but of all the what if's. i was able to get Hilton and Marriott to refund my points. along with southwest for the inter island travel. i was also able to get my money back from any and all excursions we had planned. i feel very lucky.

I do need some help from anyone that knows things about American Airlines. I have not yet tried to call them. I was able to book many months ago all on points. Does anyone know how or what they are doing for points travel? i also upgraded one leg of our flights to main cabin extra. how do i get a refund? We do plan on going to Hawaii during the same time next year pending all is good. any and all help is very much appreciated. Thank you....

Well like some have said here, there kids are out of school. We live in prince william county about 30 miles south of DC. and all the surrounding county's are out for a month. My DW has started a home school routine for Monday morning.

I am sorry if this topic has been discussed earlier, i am several days behind and plan on catching up while at work tonight. i hope all is well with everyone.
