Cancelling dd17's trip. She really needed the sister time and while they could just have resort time, it's not worth putting her on a plane for that.

Dh & I are going to hold out and see how things play out. We are scheduled to fly to wdw on 3/31 so if things are looking better by then, we will go. At first I was hesitant to keep our trip because my mom and step-dad are coming out to watch our kids. They are 67 and 68yo so didn't want to put them at risk just for us to take the trip. But my mom is adamant that they are not cancelling (feels this is way overblown) so I'm not sure what to do yet. I have 4 nights dvc involved in that trip that hopefully we can get back.

The 11 nights in May...well, hopefully, things are much better by then!

We haven't stocked up at all and now we just need our regular grocery/household stuff and the shelves are bare. Planning to try more stores tomorrow and hope we can find some basic stuff...

I'm with you on hoping for May. My boy just got his leave approved, we were a little afraid it wouldn't go through since they have a planned block leave later. I really want this trip for him. He was not available for our previous trip and the trip before that he was sick so he missed most of our park time.

We also needed to do our normal shopping. It was rough, but I think we can make do for a bit now. And, I can stay home, which I very much need. My hands need a break from the constant washing.

NCAA tournament is cancelled. So sad about this. Not understanding why they didn't just postpone.
I agree - It sounds like they spent all day trying to figure out contingencies...but they didn't need to cancel today. They could have postponed indefinitely and then reevaluated tomorrow, a week from now, a month from now, etc. In my own selfish bubble world I am devastated by this one. Next Thursday was like Christmas Day to me!
This was a question that was posted in another place... but does this traveless year makes u continue to spend to earn travel points or has there been some considerations to switch to cashback cards.
Traveless year? Did this person who asked this only plan to take trips in March and April this year? We obviously took our Jan trip, and I fully plan to be taking my June, July, August and November trips too at this point so we won't miss a beat here.
Ironically when this stuff tanks, so do mortgage rates so we are busy as all get out at work right now. So my income isn't going anywhere. And I already work from home, so good there too.
Suddenly I care about mortgage rates... I have the ability to earn about 3% towards my goal for every personal mortgage I refer. So I sent a bunch of emails out...hoping to maybe find 8-10 of them and jump start my year on personal mortgages alone!!! :D
I feel you. My IRAs and other investments are nose diving as I’m sure everyone else’s are too. The only thing I can do right now is not sell and make it worse. But what actually makes it better, who knows? It’s all a mystery to me.
Watch...and listen...(it's actually sort of a joke...but it truly does wonders to listen to this whole thing!)

Well...I feel like I need to just let a lot of thoughts out here...so feel free to skip this, or read it but here are my thoughts on today:
  • First off, what an amazing group we are here! So many people just supporting others decisions! Commiserating with people who had to cancel trips that were important to them. Providing advice when asked, not judging people... Just AMAZING!
  • Even more wonderful - NO POLITICS here!!! Look, you have your thoughts and I have mine but it does us no good to banter about it here in our community. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE that we can all be adults here and just continue to make this a great community and a haven from the abyss that my Facebook timeline is currently.
  • I understand that there's a "greater cause" at play here...but I feel like it's important that it's ok for people to be sad here about lost trips, or cancelled events, or whatever. Is it selfish...I guess, but I know it all comes from a good place, it's not like anybody is wishing that more people die, they're just sad! AND I don't think anybody should be vilified for being sad about something that is important to them. And I appreciate everybody who's sharing their sadness as this is affecting trips, families, etc. I saw a story where somebody thinks they just lost the last vacation they may ever take with their dad because he's in bad health. It tears me up to hear stuff like that!
  • A world without sports is just shocking to me. I know it's necessary...but wow...just WOW. I know that might not mean much to some people, but it's jarring for me to realize just how much sports fills my day. I basically spend my day reading about sports, Disney World and Credit Cards... Suddenly 2 of those won't exist.
  • I'm TIRED of all the COVID-19 emails... Look I get it Bed Bath...you clean the store. Ugh it's just ridiculous. The travel ones make sense since they seem to be communicating cancellation policies. But will the rest of you just shutup??? I mean I got one from Red Lobster... I eat there like twice a year... geez, lol!
  • I'm not remotely worried about the stock market. But I'm in my 30s and at least a decade away from even considering an early retirement (even at my rapid savings pace). Honestly, this is nothing but an opportunity to me...stocks are on sale! BUT I do feel for people who are much closer to retirement or in retirement and this will have a considerable affect on them. If that last statement doesn't describe you...then my advice would be to embrace the "stocks are on sale" mentality. And that JL Collins video I shared earlier is truly amazing... I've seriously listened to the whole thing twice in the past few weeks!
So there's some random SFF thoughts. I feel better having typed this. We take it one day at a time... I guess I'll continue to just focus at work. Things are going well on that front, I have some good deal flow suddenly and might be able to get back on track to coast the back half of the year. That would be amazing considering I have 4-5 trips planned between June and November!

Stay calm, stay positive...and continue supporting each other. You guys are all amazing and I truly enjoyed reading through the entire thread tonight while catching up!

My Friday night basketball group is at a local school (South Fayette actually lol) and got cancelled through April 14th. So that sort of stinks but I get why.

My Mon/Thurs church basketball carries on and we played tonight. After watching all the craziness on Sportscenter all day it almost felt reckless to go out 🤣🤣🤣

WDW Annual Passes will apparently be extended by the number of days the parks are closed:

I was glad to read this! My dd's checkout date is Aug 6 and that is the same date we bought our AP's last year so this would give us a chance to go down to get her and then play in the parks for a few days. If we dare to battle August again lol! That was brutal!

I appreciate your thoughts! Mine are the same and I am sad but life will go on and there's always FT for seeing my dd!

I missed the video you posted so I'll have to go look for that. I need help with how to buy stocks...that is what it's about I am guessing!

Michigan just closed ALL schools effective Monday-April 4th. So, 2 “bonus” spring break weeks for us. I might need to bump up my churning calendar for P2 to buy groceries with 3 additional kids (a teen, a tween, and an 8yo) at home allllll day who eat like garbage disposals when they are bored. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Wow that's awesome. Our APs expire right before Princess race weekend 2021 so we figured 2020 might be the last time we do it for a while... and now they have me seriously considering it for 2021, so good job WDW!

Just canceled my MCO Hyatt and SW flights for DS and I. Our CBR room for two nights was booked through AAVacations. I tried calling them today and they didn’t even have a phone queue, just said try again later. I’m confused on their change/cancel policy. Under the original policy I wouldn’t be able to expect a refund at all but I’m hoping to at least be able to change my dates. Considering it’s a room only res and the resorts are staying open, possible I won’t get anything back. My dates were March 15-18.:grouphug: ...so many of us in this together. Sorry to everybody else with messed up plans!

Disney itself is waiving all change and cancellation fees through June 30th, so AA Vacations should allow change and cancellation through default. I'd keep trying to reach them, send email, twitter, whatever you can manage with your details. In their notes, Disney does say to contact your travel professional if you didn't book directly.

If AA tried to keep your reservation active it would look bad.

Thanks---I'm going to call DVC tomorrow morning while dh is in a meeting with clients.

Does anyone know what happens with tickets? They're already assigned to people in MDE.

I had to drive the entire way down, because dh was dealing with the market meltdown (he's a CFP). He was working with his laptop, iPad, and phone! I'll have to drive all of tomorrow after his meetings, but he's going to drive the rest of the way on Saturday.

You probably already know, but tickets are good through Dec 20 and after that may be applied towards another ticket at value when purchased. Hilton Head has a one bedroom open for a week/8 nights beginning Saturday night - looks like someone canceled. Not us, we are still going unless they pull the plug. 21 28 points for a one bedroom....

Just got back from what is now the kids' last rehearsal. WGAZ canceled all remaining events including the one we had scheduled for Saturday.

Sad and scary times ahead.

I wonder if I should be worried about empty grocery stores, now. Great.

Hopefully local restaurants can still get their food supplies so we can eat while helping someone stay in business... right??

I'm going out to get some groceries for our Hilton Head trip. I'd hate to get there and find the stores empty. I actually don't know the situation close by, but I have to start with CVS as I had one prescription that I only have enough pills through next Saturday - I think I need to get it refilled now/today.

Good for you! It took a little, but you finally figured out how to make the mortgage thing work for you!
