DVC members?
Dues are around the corner -
What is the best strategy to pay?
Gift cards? Disney card? Something else?
Thanks.

We do a combo of Disney Gift Cards if we can find good deals on them and the Disney CC. That's how we've gotten the most bang for our buck.

I pay with discounted Disney GC’s I have picked up using my CC...if you are a BJs or Sam’s club member they discount them

2 quick Chase updates:

1) The Chase Sapphire Preferred 80,000 point UR offer is still working via support link here (public offer decreased days ago)

2) The 50k offers we found on CIC/CIU other day (posted here and on DISchurners) seem to have switched to the 75k offer - wouldn’t mind if some others would verify they’re seeing the same.

Hi, I'm new here and having some serious FOMO issues here with what seems like a lot of opportunities to do better than what I'm currently doing, and just don't know where to start. We are DVC owners in Colorado and make 1-2 trips a year down to WDW, but we try to travel somewhere else occasionally as well. We have a large family of 7 and I hate baggage fees so I generally try to take Southwest Airlines anywhere we go.

I'd previously been an advocate of doing debit only on most of my electronic transactions, eschewing the "borrowing" of money, and condemning the often high CC merchant/interchange fees that went to the "evil" VISA/MC/banks. I'm coming around though, as I've finally recognized the protections that using a CC provides over direct bank debit, as well as the perks/benefits I was missing out on. For the past six months to a year then, I've been trying to use my Costco Visa as often as possible to maximize my cashback rewards with them, along with the extended warranty I get when buying electronics, etc.

I don't think I've applied for a CC within the past two years, but I do have quite a few different credit cards, including 2 that have balances (I know, I know). My credit score is pretty good, around 800.
My current CCs include:
My credit union (not debit, an actual CC): 4k balance, no use
My other credit union (not debit, an actual CC): no balance, no use
1st national bank: 8k balance, no use
Chase Disney VISA: no balance, use when we go to WDW, then pay off within a month or two
Citi Costco VISA: no balance (but I use it a lot - 2-3K per month, and pay off every month)
Citi Double Cash Mastercard: no balance, no use
USAA CC: no balance, no use

My wife has a few more in her name alone, none with balances:
BofA, no balance, no use
Home Depot: no balance, no use
Citi Diamond MC: no balance, no use

After listing all of those, I can't believe I have so many open credit cards lol. I think it's a result of some pay-down strategies I used from a few years ago (I used to have a lot of CC debt) and I read somewhere it was good for your credit score to have unused credit, so I've left them open. Regardless, I know that's not the point of this thread, so I'll move on, but if you think I should close some, let me know.

So, I could use some recommendations on how to best maximize my monthly/yearly spend in order to get some travel rewards/perks/benefits OR if it's more valuable to not go for travel perks but for cash rewards or something...I just don't know, but I wanted to show up and start a conversation. I've read the stickied threads at the start of the post and tried to answer all the questions! I didn't list any credit cards with their opening dates as I don't believe I've acquired any of them in the last 24 months.

We don't stay in hotels very often so I don't think a hotel rewards program is right for me. We fly 2-4 times a year, fly out of DIA, where they have Southwest. I have like 5k points in SW RR.

Please let me know if I'm missing anything in terms of info to provide to help influence a recommendation on how I might best maximize my CC churn! All the best!
:welcome: Fellow DVC member.....You could look at Chase UR earning cards or Chase SW cards since you fly them... you and your wife should each open a card individually and not add each other as authorized users to keep your x/24 count down for Chase.

The CSP has the highest sign up bonus right now and a $95 annual fee...
the other Chase cards with no annual fee are CFF and CFU....they have a 20,000UR bonus after spending $500 plus earn 5x on groceries spend up to $12k in the first year
If you get the CSP the URs can be cashed out via pay yourself back in certain categories, cashed out or transfer to SW to book flights
I’m sure others will share their ideas as well
I agree with everything palhockeymomof2 said. Most here chase Ultimate Rewards (URs), followed by Amex's Member Rewards (MRs), then others. Don't be afraid of the Annual Fees (AFs) on cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP, $95) because the 80,000 URs are worth $800 to $1000. When the second AF hits, you can evaluate if you will still benefit from the card more than the fee. If you go for the CSP, and have the spend available for a second card at the same time, consider doing a Modified Double Dip (MDD) with the Chase Sapphire Reserve (CSR, $450 or 550?), because then you can earn the Sign Up Bonus (SUB) on both cards. You can't do it one at a time until 4 years have passed since the previous SUB was earned. This is only a Sapphire family quirk.

There are a couple SW gurus here that can really help you there. They have ways to earn enough miles to get a free companion pass, which may be a big benefit for you.

Don't cancel old cards, and in fact, try to put a little spend on them once a year so they don't get cancelled for you. Old cards help your credit score as you said, by keeping your average age of accounts high, and keeping your available credit high thus utilization low.

Once you narrow down your choice, please consider joining our private DISchurners group so you can pay it forward by supporting one of your fellow DISsers.
:welcome: from another DVC owner.

I'm willing to apply for the plat, all I can get to come up is 75k through Incognito, when I try logged in all it shows me is to upgrade my Gold. Any other suggestions?

AHHHHH. I went to "my" walmart yesterday and tried again to load my Serve via VGC...nope! That's now 2 Walmarts and no luck. Am I screwed? There are no DG or FD really close, but I guess I can drive and liquidate the last $600 I need to.

The BF just bought a LoveSac couch tonight. I can not wait for it to come! He had me order it as he's traveling. I did a quick check of shopping portals. I passed over the $54 I could have gotten via Rakuten and opted for 5400 AA miles, LOL. Considering I can get flights to NC for 7500 one way normally. So that's a better "value" for me than the $54.

I just cancelled my Hilton Biz card tonight. They had given me the $50 credit on my statement, but I'll keep the Surpass for now. I want to put the free Hilton into my rotation too. I'm $40 away from hitting the Biz Aviator spend. So now the focus is on the $5k on the Bonvoy. I'm wondering if I want to jump on the AA platinum offer. I'm trying to weigh the $550 AF vs the perks. I guess if I can score the triple dip it's worth it. I managed to do that with the Aspire. But then I have $10k in spend to do, LOL. I'm hating FOMO!

For Xbox series x there should be a few more opportunities to buy around Black Friday from what I'm reading. Maybe that's true for PS5 too. My son is taking it surprisingly well that I've yet to score one. Although he did tell me how one of his friend's moms got up at midnight to get one (so did I, just wasn't successful).

My DH tried as well. He had one in his cart and received an order number, but the credit card never processed. He hit the refresh button many, many, many times. He also called and sat on hold for a long time, but I think finally hung up. He would love one for Christmas, so let us know if you see any more. I am not plugged in at all for these systems!

DH's Hyatt card has an AF this month. Is there any reason to keep it?

Oh no... details please. How much did you try to load per swipe? Was it at the Money Center or Cash Register?
I still have 1 $200 VGC that I was going to use to pay my electric bill but I might just have to do another test load before I go buy more. I was going to switch my MS card to my Aviator Red since I just got this:

You would all be proud of me. At least I hope I don't end up embarrassing myself..

I went to pre-pay (so I can do "skip the counter") for my Alamo rental car reservation and I remembered to use the CSP for its insurance as opposed to the CIC that I'm trying to hit an MSR on.

That's good, right?? (I sure hope that was right)
