OT: Should I buy mechanical breakdown insurance for DD's civic (it's new). Geico is charging $50/year.
What is the factory warranty on the car and how long does she plan on keeping it? We always buy an extended warranty (7 years) and don't usually keep the cars after the warranty runs out (of course there are exceptions to this rule, like my SUV in Toronto that is 7 years old, but I don't use it often enough to replace, though I'm sure one day soon I'll return home and there will be a new SUV waiting for me -- dh really loves his cars).

DH business is pretty small (CPR training) and he hasn't focused on it in a few years. He was pretty active about 7-10 years ago. He still keeps his certification "live" and does a few one-offs now, so it is a legit business (he just trained a bunch of girl scout leaders last month, but I think he only collected the actual costs because they were friends of ours). He says he doesn't have any of the documentation listed.

Frankly, I think he is annoyed that his app didn't go through and sick of me asking about it. Like other P2s, he likes the benefits of churning, but isn't really interested in doing any legwork. It's causing some friction here, so I am willing to just let it go if he can just reapply next week.

A reluctant P2 can turn into a willing P2. One method is allow them to experience lie flat international first class. Follow that up with reluctance means they can fly in coach while you enjoy first class. #firstworldgangstathreats

Chase emailed offer for my old $75 Hyatt card: pay utility bills, cell, insurance between now and end of Dec for 5X points up to $2K!!!!!! Yay - that is 10K points in my Hyatt account. Another night at the beach for me with my remaining points - glad I didn't buy the 2k I needed!!!!!!

INCREASED offer on Marriott Bonvoy Boundless (Chase):
100,000 BONUS POINTS After you spend $5,000 on purchases in your first 3 months from your account opening

I don't know if this tracks through to support links so maybe somebody should test that. Also, I'll leave it to @Lain to add all the necessary cautions on why you may or may not want to go for this card. It could lock you out of other Bonvoy cards but I'm personally not familiar with all the restrictions since I'm not pursuing Marriott points at this point (I need to use some first, lol)

Worth a shot!

AND as I type this, I realize I did not get Xfinity mobile... I got Xfinity Home! I still don't have that, but it says a $39.95 charge so I will make a $45 payment on my cable bill and see what happens!

I got that one also but it's for the monitoring system - I have an old no pay security system with signs, and a few other preventers. So far I'm doing okay. But - daughter had a vehicle stolen Tuesday night from the front yard - a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Son in law is already shopping new - he wanted something anyway. Insurance will do a total loss if not found in 20 days.

That said, they passed a lot of much newer vehicles on the way into the court they live in. Most people have 1 car garages or carports and 3-4 cars to park in this neighborhood, so my guess is chop shop for parts. This is a decent area with homes 4-500K. Nowhere is safe anymore.

I finally figured out how to get emails from chase about promotions, I think. All I now get are here is how to refer your card emails. I wonder if there is still something I need to change. I have never gotten any of these special deals.

I lied. I just got a SW promotion spend $4000 get 2000 extra points! lol Seriously?!?!?! Chase hates me.

Honda's warranty is short and I hope she'll keep it for 10+ years (although I hope at some point she has her own insurance:). But I've had four Hondas without issues so I don't worry too much.

#Iwish-DH (my very reluctant P2) has seen me manipulate things so much he says "I have faith you can make it happen." Grrr...guess who is flying home in Economy Comfort in 3 weeks? Not this girl 😝 I have faith in my subtle revenge :rotfl:

For the Aruba experts, is 3 nights a good amount of time? I can get 3 consecutive nights at the Marriott Renaissance for 35k points each. I have 3 35k certs I can use. The Hyatt is not cooperating at all with points.

I’m definitely not an expert with only one trip there, but I wouldn’t for for 3 nights. But we did fly from a Utah! By the time you arrive and check in you get at most a 1/2 day and then one full day and flying home the next day seems too rushed for me.

I think @wendow has Chase Marriott cards so won’t that make her ineligible for the Brilliant?
I have the chase Marriott biz. thanks everyone for explaining the new app vs upgrade vs doing both. I still don’t get how you can upgrade to a card you already have. I’m thinking of this all wrong, clearly, since it makes perfect sense to everyone else lol. I’m highly preoccupied right now though. I think ultimately, I don’t value bonvoy points enough to pay those AFs or put that much spend on the cards. So, gonna pass on this and refocus!

It asks for when you were approved for the card. Different issuers have rules about how many cards you can get in a certain time period.

1) First off, we are going to want you to list ALL credit cards you were approved for in the last 24 months.

Got it.
5/18 US bank Flexperks Travel Visa (closed 4/19, cashed out points for airfare for 2 to PHX for spring training 2019)
9/18 JC Penney's Card (will likely auto-close by next year as the JCP's in Seattle went out of business and I don't buy clothes I can't try on first)
2/19 GAP Visa
3/19 US bank Flexperks Gold AMEX
5/19 Pink Victoria Secret Angel Card

I guess I should also mention the regular travel my bf and I do:
Annual trip to Phoenix for spring training (mid March for all you non-baseball fans), usually we only have to pay for airfare because his sister lets us stay with her and has an extra car we can drive.
Annual trip to Pullman, WA/Moscow, ID sometime between the beginning of May to the end of August. This involves renting a car as we do not own a car (yet... I should have enough saved by 2022 for a decent vehicle).
My birthday usually falls around Memorial Day, so we tend to celebrate on the holiday weekend by going on some kind of short trip.
His birthday is 9/23 and I like to spoil him with big trips (last year was 5 days in Disneyworld plus a day trip to Tampa for a swim, Big cat rescue, and a Ray's game. This year was a multi-city East coast trip [Baltimore, DC, NYC, and Philly] heavily planned around baseball games. Next year we're planning on Egypt [I wanted to do that this year because he just turned 40, but we didn't start saving early enough and we didn't make time to get our passports], which is going to be cheap aside from airfare.)

I am planning on closing my flexperks gold AMEX soon, as it doesn't accumulate points very quickly and I also have no use for my US bank account anymore because I have a job with direct deposit again and would like advice for what card to churn next that can possibly help offset the airfare to Egypt next year, or help fund the late April/early May 2021 family trip to WDW (currently I'm saving about $200 a month, my parents are contributing $100 a month, and 4k is already saved up) which I am budgeting around 10-11k.

Please let me know if you have more questions I didn't answer between my first post and this one. I appreciate any advice and tips you may have for me! :) thanks for sharing your wisdom.

First I would recommend not closing any cards until they have been open a year, it can really anger the card issuers and you want to stay in there good graces. So you are 5/24 if all of those store cards count, I don't have any personal experience with the VS or Jc Penney's cards, but maybe someone who does will pipe. If you are 5/24 this locks you out of chase, without any cards falling off until 5/2020. Typically we would recommend that you start with chase cards as they have lucrative sign up bonuses. Some more questions for you, how much spend do you typically have for a given month. What airline are you looking for flights? Are you open to apply for business cards?

:offtopic:

I know everyone likes the backpacks from ebags, but can anyone recommend one (from there or somewhere else) that can clip on to a stroller? I'm only coming up with diaper bag options, which is fine but the diaper bag backpack I have isn't very well made since the straps that clip on have ripped. Main thing I'm looking for is the two clips that allow the backpack to hang from the stroller.
