I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

Soooo.... when I got approved over the weekend for a Hilton Amex, they nicely provided the card number/pin etc so I could use it before the card arrived.

Just tried to make an online purchase with the info they sent me and it's declined.

Anyone experienced this? I'm sure the hard card will be here soon and I may have written the number down wrong?? But just checking to see if this is something that the experts have experienced.

Amex is funny because some websites want the secuirty code (4 digits on the front of an amex) and some want the CVV (3 digits on the back). You may be entering the wrong one! (I had this issue with my first amex- wish places would be consistent!)

I'm reading about all the (mostly) negative changes coming to Amex in January. The gutting of benefits on most cards.

Losing roadside assistance sucks. Mind you, I've never used it, but I liked the peace of mind of having it.

I like the extra trip protections with the plat but I still don't think I want to keep the card. It sucks you have book flights at roundtrips - I prefer to book one ways for flexibility.

***Now a question: which card/issuer still has extended warranty at this point? Seems like every other week, someone drops this, most notably Citi.***

I feel the same way, especially annoyed at the round trips. I tend to book flights on points, and don't book them as RTs since I want to get the flight I want when it's released.

When it's time to get that next card...Don't Delay! (Some thoughts on pacing)...

I commend our group on being hyper aware of responsible pacing in the game. To my knowledge, we've never had a DISchurner face shutdown and that's awesome! It's worth noting though that our pacing recommendations are intentionally conservative!

That's why I say, when it's time to get that next card, don't delay! If you're spacing things out by 3 months, then at the 3 month mark it's time to pull the trigger! Delaying by a week or 2 can have a compounding affect. I see people now considering a slight rush to their pacing to grab the SW Performance Biz and perhaps when you look at their history they put 110 days between an app earlier this year. Well those 20 days would come in handy right about now.

Part of this involves thinking 2-3 cards out. If you're simply playing in the moment, then you may procrastinate and let an extra week or 2 go by. Delaying like this can also cause people to be in a panic to receive the card, because they are without an MSR and it's killing them. So once you reach that magical pacing mark in your mind (for a lot of people that's 3 months) it's time to go!

Even if you aren't quite ready for a new card, as long as the MSR seems reasonable, go for it! Losing 2 weeks every time you apply can cost you an entire sign-up bonus over the course of 5-6 cards.

This comment isn't a result of any one person but rather a result of conversations I've had with numerous people as well as some of my own regrets in the past. When it's time to get that next card...Don't Delay!

Login to your account. If you can get in it isn't shutdown. Have you reached your 5,000 limit for the month?
ETA: correct the accidental vulgarity, lol
I was able to login, so not shutdown. And I this would have put me at $800 for the month, are there any tips I should be aware of? I had 2 - $200 MCGC. Do I do 2 separate transactions or 1 transaction with 2 swipes?

Not with HIlton, but with DH Delta Amex Biz plat, same thing, got a card number, but it didn't work.

Ok, glad it's not just me. It won't kill me to wait another day or two, I suppose. Also good to know for future planning.

Hmmmm.. the number Amex gave me was a 4 digit. At least I don't remember seeing a 3 digit one anywhere.

Oh well. I should have the hard card here in the next day or two. Nothing I can do about it now.. will take more note in the future.

Timely post for me... :)

@jhoannam
I have done 2 separate transactions with no problem. I did have one card declined once. The cashier said try again, the server might have had a glitch. I freaked a bit and just used a different GC, went home and checked the GC to make sure it had the funds then tried again a few days later and had no problem. Maybe the cashier was right and it was a glitch. The funny part is a few weeks ago, that same cashier had never seen a Serve card and I had to tell her how to ring it.

I have the Hilton Aspire which has an airline incidental credit. I know GCs haven’t worked recently but I read about smaller airline charges counting Anyone think a $150-200 flight on SW might work?

For SW, probably <$100 but you can use gift cards to make it come out that low. Check Flyertalk for the most recent DPs though.

***Now a question: which card/issuer still has extended warranty at this point? Seems like every other week, someone drops this, most notably Citi.***

Costco Citibank still has the additional 2 years extended warranty. We bought a washer/dryer recently and put it on that even though I had a MSR card (much as it pained me, lol). Would be curious to know if there's another card better.

I had the same experience at a FD went back the next day and it worked so :confused3

Were these at FD? I've read that store has a daily limit of $500 per day per store. Tagging @palhockeymomof2

No but if your TA/Disney Groups failed to charge the extra per person rate that could be why disney is charging you. I paid for extra people just fine with my booking through them last year, nothing was due on arrival. Do you have your paperwork from the TA confirming your total amount due and your payments? If so does it show how many people? I wouldn’t wait for an email btw, I’d give the TA a call as well.
Were all the adults listed in the room prior to arrival? How could they have left one off the price?! That is crazy. Sorry you have to deal with that. Do you have the cell for your TA? I would even text him/her that it is urgent.

Thanks for the responses (also @wendow - lost your quote somehow). I emailed my TA and also left a VM for the agency. She got back with me about two hours later- not sure what happened but she said it's all straightened out now and our balance should be zero. Going to double check with the front desk tomorrow. Not sure what happened, just glad we don't owe $300+ !

We've been having a great trip otherwise! Really warm but not too humid and dry (so far). Made it to DHS by 6:30 this morning and were done there by 10:45. Been eating at F&W a lot and enjoyed all the food so far! Crowds are really maneagable! Starting to miss the kiddos though, 4 nights is definitely my max for being away from them. Off to AK and MK DAH tomorrow!

Okay I'll pull the trigger on my app tomorrow. Fingers crossed! I may be a tiny bit of a procrastinator, but man oh man my dh is the absolute worst procrastinator. I do worry about meeting the MSR but I have a plan that should work (pre-paying some upcoming expenses).

Wow - I motivated some people tonight LOL!

I should also add... If you aren’t sure you can meet the MSE...DO DELAY! LOL! Because the one rule that trumps all others is don’t allow churning to cause yourself to spend more.

(But I like your plan about prepaying expenses because that’s legit and will not result in spending more) :D

That's good. I always do 1 transaction, 2 swipes. It has happened to me before as well and the next time I went it was fine. Just try again tomorrow.

Interesting data point today. Similar to what happened with P2's card last week.

I upgraded my existing SPG personal last August to the Bonvoy Brilliant when I was offered the 100,000 upgrade offer. My AF was in April and it posted and I paid it then. Yesterday I did a quick chat with Amex to downgrade the card and they did so easy peasy. Renewal membership fee of $52.57 and adujusted member fee of $247.68. I was thinking I might cancel the card outright, but if there is a chance I get another upgrade offer I will definitely consider keeping it.
Making me definitely consider upgrading mine...!!

DH applied for CIP on 9/2. He first got the message they needed more info. Then he got the 7-10 day message, switched to 2 week message, now back to 7-10. What does that mean?!?!?!

(He did not follow instructions and he applied with his business name, not his name, if that matters).

It could be a letter asking for verification of his business since he put down a business name. Bummer! He can try again after 30 days and this time, follow your instructions!!
