try it. Ppl abused it and they shut it down, but i guess a few weeks later, they opened that option up again.

believe Nov works too as well as Oct.
I don’t think it was “shut down”. It’s typically only available for a very short time while they are re-accommodating everybody and only during a defined period of flights. It previously occurred on Oct flights thru Nov 2nd a month or so ago. Now it’s available for Nov Flights. The option will go away on a few days though most likely.

I haven't written a check since February and I just wrote 3 for school, and the one from February also from school. Last year of this! I just started my last book of checks in my stash, I think it may last me several years without school checks. I just completed my last back to school mom assignment of filling out paperwork. Happy and sad at the same time.

Just used a 112k URs to get 2 J-class seats to Europe next summer. This game is awesome - thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!!! :goodvibes

@Lain - being my own DP here, but the URs > Flying Blue was instant. We've only used MRs for flights until today, so I wasn't sure if the URs would be harder, but they weren't. Thanks for your links last night. :)

I fibbed just a little. It's not really completely a kid free vacation. 🥰🥰

Looks like we are going to need even MORE points!

Congratulations!!

They don’t proactively give you that credit/refund. I see you already made the change BUT you could actually change to the cheapest flight available, get that refund/credit, and then change to the flight you want for no up-charge/penalty. That’s why I was making dozens of changes last night. Saved a ton of points with a few tricks :D

Should have known there was some way I could have tried to come out better with this situation.

The email did say this:
For expedited service, you can change your flight at www.southwest.com/rebook3 between the hours of 12:00pm (CDT) August 22, 2019 and 11:59pm (CDT) August 25, 2019
So I suppose I had time to play around with the flights. I've just been super busy lately and acted quickly just to have the flights nailed down.

Oh - that email is helpful! So they're telling us that the window to capitalize on this is through Sunday evening, lol. It's a complicated process to take advantage of this loophole. To bring things full circle to an earlier discussion today, I learned of it on my own and then vetted it through a search on redditsearch.io (lol) , then a PM to a r/churning user, and additional research on google. I literally had to book, change, and cancel twice for our flights last night, and since they all have separate conf #'s this ended up being a 27 step process (including my sister's flight which I got some points back on as well).

Boom! My wife's CIP2 MSR was met on Tuesday AND the 80k points are already pending!! That bonus tracker is kinda nice, I'm not gonna lie! LOL! We got that card on June 12th so I actually took my time with an MSR. I could've hit it awhile ago with property taxes but they weren't due until 8/31 and I've learned not to pay large bills early over my years of churning because that's how something unexpected comes up and then I'm without an MSR. So I waited until I had my CIP2 in my hands until I made that payment.

Now my focus will be my CIP2 and I can get another AA Biz on 9/1 which (if approved) I'll promptly knock out with a HELOC payment. My big decision point comes a month from now when I could do CIP3 for my wife. Right now I'm leaning towards going for it...

Arghhh, I still can't get my Chase accounts to reconnect to Ynab even though they are good now and all other things are logged in and updating with it ie Award Wallet, Personal Capital.

It's been some time sine I've waxed eloquent on the CSR. A recent conversation got me thinking about this and we've had a number of new people join us, so here we go.

A PSA from the Queen of Annual Fees:

I see quite often where folks can get sticker shock when it comes to the AF of a card, especially one as high as the CSR. I think it is important to look well beyond the bonus and that high AF before passing judgement with a knee jerk reaction as you may wind up paying more for not having it in the long run.

The CSR is $450 and comes with a $300 travel credit that can be triggered for a number of things. Merchants in the travel category like airlines, hotels, motels, timeshares (DVC dues), campgrounds, car rental agencies, cruise lines, travel agencies, discount travel sites, and operators of passenger trains, buses, taxis, limousines, ferries, toll bridges and highways, and parking lots, garages, Undercover Tourist etc.

If your household spends $300 per year in any combination of these categories then the travel credit will be triggered and the CSR will be a $150 AF per year card. Assuming that you wish to keep either a CIP or CSP for use at .0125 cpp in the UR portal or to transfer to an airline or hotel you are paying $95 per year for that card. The difference between that and the CSR is $55.

I am not even going to go into the fact that the CSR will earn 3x vs 2x on dining and travel because I have all but sock drawered the card and the extra point earning is irrelevant with the point I am trying to make here.

The important thing to look at is what does it cost you per year to redeem your UR points through the travel portal? It is very possible that keeping a CSP or CIP over a CSR is actually costing you more money. This is especially true for those who are redeeming for paid coach seats on flights via the UR portal. More often than not it costs fewer points to redeem coach airfare via the UR portal over transferring points to an airline.

Let's say you are going to redeem a $300 RT flight for a party of 2. That's $600. If you hold a CSP or CIP that should cost you 48,000 UR points. If you hold a CSR those flights would cost you 40,000 points. That is a difference of 8,000 points which is equivalent to $100 in the CSP/CIP UR portal. So holding the CIP or CSP over the CSR just cost you $100 in points. When you factor in the $55 difference then it cost you $45 to keep a card with a "lower AF". That is just one redemption example. How much is it costing a family of 4 to keep the lower AF card?

@DisneyMandC - some discussion about booking the Conrad Tokyo with a FWN cert on r/churning today. Try again 6 months before your trip?

Thanks!! We are actually planning to stay at the Conrad Osaka :) Unlike the Conrad Tokyo, they always seem to show a ton of availability.

Finally signed up for Landry's club. If anyone hasn't done so yet and were going to do so, they are giving a $30 welcome bonus instead of $25 through the end of the month.

Oh that’s perfect since I’ve been procrastinating on buying it! Thanks!

I haven’t talked about it here yet, but I think I’m actually going to upgrade one of my cars to a CSR probably in december. Between the GE credit and potentially booking flights to Hawaii on URs next year, I think I can make it worth it.

I called and changed our flight to a different one today. Our return is on 11/21 so it is outside the window but she changed it for me for free today even though the one I switched to was more expensive. The flight I was booked on previously was the cheapest one that day so that plan wouldn’t have worked for me. But that is a great idea and glad for you that you saved some points.
I am actually second guessing myself now because I see that the same flight I was booked on ( direct) has not changed in previous days so maybe it wouldn’t be canceled after all.

I've been out of the loop for a month or so..read the news threads but didn't see anything on multiple CIPs lately.
P2 and I both have 2. Has anyone here gone for #3? Any advice?
Thank you
I've got 3 for both DH and I. Followed the 90 days apart rule. Lowered previous CIPs down to $1k-$2k limits. Got one in June and one in July, June one has SUB pending (should post next week, statement closes 27th).

It’s time for my cip3 but I have my eye on earning the SW CP with the 80k offer that’s expiring in October. No can do, right? If I did CIP3 today it’s only 2 months until October... and I know 3 months is the recommended spacing.... I don’t want to miss out on the higher SW offer but I really want that 80k UR. I know the answer is don’t do CIP3 but I want someone to tell me my very simple math is wrong and that I can get them both :p
