Just got done MSing 8,000. I haven’t done this much in one day in a long time. Feels good. It took me 2.5 hours but I stopped to drop off my comforter at the laundry mat, went to CVS, and bought groceries. I used like 15 VGCs at the Safeway self check out that all had about $1 on them. They were auto draining.

I have like $3,000 more to liquidate and want to finish SOs Gold by the end of this month. I think I will try the BBP and Southwest on GCM and order more GCs
Here I sit in the parking lot worrying about the $300 I just got at Safeway! Lol
We've rented both times with Alamo and we did miss the turn and have to go around a block in June  but other than that it was pretty easy. We haven't had to wait for a full shuttle, this last time they took just us over to port. For us it has been an under 20min experience from coming over the bridge to Canaveral to being dropped off at the ship. Last time picking up a car after was less fun; most of that was everyone was already stressed due to BIL and then we had to wait almost 15min for our car, on top of the normal check in time... because the agent checking us in did not go pull the car around like the rest of them were doing... And with everyone stressing, that 15min felt like an eternity.
You either got real lucky or we were real unlucky! Dropping off we waited 15+ minutes just to turn the car in and close to 30 minutes for a full shuttle. Upon disembarking, there was no actual designated spot for the shuttle to park. One would arrive at one end of the terminal and by the time you got there it was full and you had to wait for the next one. And of course it parked at the other end of the terminal. It was a mad house and took over 45 minutes to get on the shuttle. Could be different with different companies. We were NCL and Alamo. Never again.

Eeek! Maybe it was just the DCL set up, it was super easy and organized to get a shuttle after we disembarked. We had early-ish port arrival times too both times we dropped off, pretty much pulled right up to a staff member.

Ok. I resemble this remark. It is very difficult figuring out when to use DH's platinum card, but I have to put spend on it to keep the RATs at bay.

You are the other side of the coin.

I did my Freedom to CSR on 8/6

I thought someone had just done it. But I also thought someone was told they couldn't recently.

That's January of 2018 right? Not Jan 18th, of this year? If so, you should have no issue PCing that to a CSR :D You also might not get charged the AF for 2-5 months then too!

2018. Thought that on the af too. How much do I need on the cfu to pc it? I know they can move it around but am curious. Will just pull from csp anyway. That'll go to cf when the af hits in nov/dec.

For the CSR you need at least a 10k CL

I think it's $10k CL :D I upgraded my CF to a CSR just a couple weeks ago with no issues. The agent seemed excited to tell me all about it, lol. I just listened and played dumb since I knew more than him...

Just checked into the Intercontinental Montreal and I’m really impressed. I booked 3 nights on points and they allowed me to pay $45 per night to upgrade to club intercontinental with free breakfast and evening cocktails and snacks. Normally club rooms only allow a maximum of 3 people lounge access but they made an exception to allow all 4 of us! Also a great deal with two always hungry tween/teen girls.

Concierge gave our girls free bags and plush teddy bears.

Lounge had free water and cookies plus fruit, coffee and tea when we went earlier. At 5:00pm to 7:00pm the hot finger foods come out. Breakfast is at 7am and is a full buffet with hot and cold options.
Room is great and look at this view!

We are a stones throw from Old Montreal and Notre Dame Cathédrale where Celine Dion got married.

So yes, the Platinum card is hard to keep using after you've met the MSR and gotten the big SUB. Exactly what the RATs are looking for! Appeasing the RATs really leads to some suboptimal behavior.

What I do use it for is flights and award fees at 5x MR, when I can be pretty sure I won't need the trip insurance provided by the CSR.

I'll use it for expensive purchases, because Amex provides excellent purchase protection and extended warranty coverage. But if you're counting on this coverage, then you shouldn't cancel your card even when the AF rolls around because you'll terminate the coverage when you close the card. I've made it a point to try to keep many of Amex's cards open for more than a year because the pop up mentions closing cards as a factor in your "history," and Amex gives out some pretty nice retention offers that help to offset a second year AF.

I use the Platinum for Amex Offers, and will purposely add an offer to the Plat to get some spend on the card.

When I use my Platinum, I know I'm earning only 1x MR in almost all circumstances. What else could I be earning on non-category spend? The CIU/CFU earns 1.5x UR; the BBP earns 2x MR; the SPG cards earn 2x Marriott. Of course, there are several other 2% back cards (e.g., Citi Double Cash). I'm willing to forgo a 1.5-2x base earn rate on "everything else" to put the charge on the Platinum, even if it earns only 1x MR, to appease the RATs. Any other spend that can earn me 3x or better, I'll go with the card that offers me the better category bonus.

Relatedly, I have my Platinums added to my MPX wallet and will often pay with a Platinum, earning only 1x MR, but purchase an eGC that'll earn me another 0.5-5x (or more) United miles, so it's not entirely 1x spend. When I'm buying an eGC on MPX to a merchant with a MCC that might pass-through and trigger a 3x+ category bonus on one of my Chase cards, I'll go with the Chase card. Otherwise, I'll alternate between my Platinums and SPG cards, depending on which cards need to see some spend.

Note that using the Platinum to buy eGCs negates the card's purchase protection and extended warranty benefits that would've covered your purchase. You're using the Platinum to buy an eGC, not an item so the coverage doesn't extend to the ultimate purchase. When I'm buying something expensive, I put it directly on the card and avoid paying with GCs.

I'm still breaking in my BBP, but I carry it with me all the time as my "everything else" card. Metal cards are nice, but they're heavy and thick on the wallet.

My wife opened her CFU ~8/5/17. Should I wait until 9/1/19 to product change to CSR to avoid the annual fee?

Amazing!

How are the ballpoint pens? The Strings by Intercontinental in Tokyo have these nice, heavy metal casing pens that have a good weight and writes really smooth. They're my favorite souvenir to have DW bring home. The Intercontinental LA has similar looking pens, but their casing is made of plastic and feels cheap.

@Alexle2007 he was not a good fit:( I’m in tears trying to figure out what’s next. I know it wasn’t meant to be and it will be fine—just feels crappy now. Last year was miserable and I know it’s not going to get better.
I am so sorry! I hope you find a solution that works for him. Do you have other public high school options that might be a better fit? I know our county allows to you request out of district, especially with some of our school being way below capacity.

I didn't know she got married there. I did a self tour back in 1998 when I visited Montreal. Beautiful cathedral. The wood work is amazing.

I'm so, so sorry. I know how amazing things are when the right child lands in the right school, and I also know how difficult it can be when there isn't a good match. Do you have any other options for this year (I know it's really late...)? I have helped friends whose kids were clearly not doing ok in their local school find the right schools, or at least a much better option. If there are LDs, do you have any schools that specialize in them?
