Help! I am trying to find a room for our arrival night on our WDW trip in December.

As badly as I want to just stay on property for the entire trip staying on the first night does not make sense. Our flight lands at 11:40 pm. We always rent a car so getting on property is not an issue. (One of the caveats DH has with us going so much...he wants the ability to escape even if we never do).

I would like to stay as close to WDW as possible. I have two free nights at Marriott from our Brilliant (I think category 5). I have a free night with no restrictions from my IHG card. I also have the free night from the Hyatt card. I need a room that is bookable and usable for the free night and will sleep the 5 of us.

Any suggestions? @calypso726 I know you have mentioned using free nights for time around WDW.

I would probably just cave and Disney math rationalize staying on property but it is a Friday night the 6th and cheapest room on property is Beach Club at $414. Unless you all think I should just do that. :)

Not sure about the sleeping 5 since it’s just two of us. But Marriott Village which was mentioned has 3 properties to choose from. Personally, I’d rather use a free night cert over paying to stay on property.

Watching Guys & Dolls, one of my two favorite musicals (Meet Me in St. Louis). Also the only Brando movie I've seen so far that I enjoy, not that he's been bad in the others.
I have Fiddler playing in the background!

Speaking of musicals, I'm so relieved that I got out of having to watch Be More Chill. I promised my 15yo cousin that we would go together at some point & I really would have done it for her but I am truly thrilled to not have to sit through the "viral Broadway musical sensation" that ended up losing to SpongeBob: The Musical in terms of longevity. The preview video was excruciating. (& don't feel too bad for my cousin... she has seen it at least three times )

Never heard of that one. Though most of what was up for a Tony this year I hadn't heard of so I didn't watch any of the show. There are a few newer one's I'd like to see but most of what I'd rather watch are the old ones, partly because it's how they were written or at least they weren't adapted from a movie into a musical. Not that Mean Girls and Legally Blonde aren't on my list :) I also think because musicals or dance movies had their time during the 50's and 60's that a lot more of the actors then could actually sing and do it well. Though I did enjoy Into the Woods but even that had at least one former broadway actress in Anna Kendrick that we also know can sing from the PP movies (which I heart and don't consider musicals because they aren't generally breaking into random song or at least not to propel the movie and story along).

My Mom (maybe) FTW. Was telling her Universal is building a new park and in speculating what could be in it besides Harry Potter and Nintendo she said “How To Train Your Dragon! They could easily do a whole land on that!”
That’s blasphemy. There is projected to be no Harry Potter in the new park. It’s Fantastic Beasts. Although you can see the tie-in into HP with the last FB movie and Nagini, oh and Dumbledore.

Great question! I think I'd use them for airfare, probably Europe or Hawaii. We typically fly out of Chicago (International) or Milwaukee (staying in US).

I'll be interested in whether you are able to pull up the offer again. Most say that if you get it do it, as you are unlikely to see it a second time. It's a 'unicorn'.

I'm on hold with Disney right now because I just got a bunch of emails saying my FPs are going to be deleted tomorrow if I don't add tickets. We all have APs attached to the MDE account and our trip is less than 3 weeks away. I have no idea what is going on and wait time is "over 25 minutes "!

Update: I'm glad I called! The reason they were going to be deleted is because my reservation at the Swan was deleted out of the MDE system somehow. I called the Swan yesterday to add my Marriott number to the reservation so I guess that triggered it. FPs are now safe!

I love Guys and Dolls! I should watch it again, I haven't seen it in forever.

It’s different for each family for sure. I’m totally a numbers person, DH is not. My sister is the opposite. Her husband keeps track of all the money and bills plus he is anti credit card so she won’t do anything churning wise because she’d have to do it herself and it might involve arguing with her husband. The control freak in me also couldn’t deal with my husband handling everything.

^^^^ This. My hubs has no clue about any of the bills. Possible he doesn't even know the bank log in anymore since we moved to ally (does he know that? :rotfl2: ) about 6 months ago.

I just checked card match and it looks like I'm pre-approved for the 100,000 Am Express Platinum offer. I can do the MSR but I'm trying to decide if this card is worth it for me. I already have a CSR. All 4 of us already have Global Entry. The Uber credit would be super hit or miss for us, I'd be lucky to use 6 of the months. We live in a rural area and only use Uber when traveling. The airline credit...I guess I could use it for ECBI with Southwest but that is stretching it because it isn't a normal thing I buy. I have Priority Pass with my CSR and the airports we use most often don't have a Centurion lounge. I really want to find a way that this card can be good for me, what am I missing?

I took advantage of this offer for DH last September. It was only worth it for me then b/c we could get the SW GC with the airline credit. If that had been dead I wouldn't have done it.
I have found ways to use the Saks credits, so that was fine. DD used the uber credits, but that didn't help me at all. We haven't done the GE, but maybe I should set DH up for it since it is free. I haven't even used a PP lounge, much less a centurion due to where we fly to/from. I am going to find a use for the points but not sure what for. ATM they are just hanging out til I need them. I have some ideas for them, but nothing solid. Sounds like you may be in a similar spot. If there is another personal card you could use to take this spot, I'd not feel pressured to do the amex offer unless you have a solid use for the MRs.

So, when you Bonboy them back, what is the correct terminology?

I feel as if I Bonboyed them on my recent trip, unintentionally.

I booked a room on points at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Chincoteague, Va, the morning I was to return home this past week. Family had already left and I wasn't ready to end my vacation. Weather was beautiful, etc.

Chincoteague is about an hour south of Ocean City, Md. I go there about once a year on a day trip as they have a National Wildlife Refuge (and a beach) and for those familiar, that is the setting for Misty of Chincoteague.

Anyway, I arrived early at about 1pm and stopped to 'pre'check in, not really expecting a room but you never know. So, yes, they gave me a room. I was in it for about 2 minutes and felt uncomfortable - who knows why? It was nice and in excellent condition, plus the guy at desk says 'you've been upgraded to a suite'. Yeah right - it's a Fairfield.

Suite meant it had a sofa sleeper in it. I'm alone, it's one night, I don't care.

Walked back to the desk and said I don't like the room and I feel uncomfortable in it. He walks me to a room down the hall. This one had a balcony and a view of the Bay which was nice. Getting better. He leaves and I walk into the handicapped accessible bathroom. This would have been fine for one night, except the shower was a handheld version, which again might have been okay but you physically had to hold it over your head and at 5ft5inches, it actually didn't reach above my head and there was no shower seat. Apparently they bring them on request.

So back to the desk and the guy is clenching his teeth and doing his best to be a good employee. And I am as amenable as possible, but there are no guests in my sight and I doubt they are full mid week here. He says I can give you room xxx but it's not ready. That's fine. I leave and return about 5pm after visiting the park and a couple of stores.

I'm now in a queen suite (sofa sleeper and 2 televisions) with a nice balcony and a great view of the Bay plus close to the restaurant next door which has live music (guy playing oldies and a guitar) on their deck for the dinner crowd. It's the first room next to the morning breakfast room. Of course I am pleased with this room! It's spotless, has all the amenities, is well decorated, has a balcony and a view - I can't find anything to complain about!

Dinner is a take out crab cake sandwich from next door recommended by the desk guy - turns out he was an assistant manager. Sandwich was excellent with kettle chips, fried green tomatos and bacon on a Kaiser roll. Tossed the roll to keep carbs low and threw the chips in a baggie for later.

If you go to the island, I highly recommend this Fairfield - it is more resort like than a run of the mill highway stopover type Fairfield - it is beautiful! More than I expected so reverse Bonboy!

So keep turning down rooms until you get upgraded to one you like?:rotfl2:

Well I finished gossip girl tonight. I’m kind of glad to be done with it so I can spend more of time reading but overall I really like the show
I finished Nurse Jackie and started Working Moms. It is short though, so need to think about what is next. I will check out gossip girls.

I do all the bills and money management here. I think my system is pretty easy that he could just pick it up and do it, but I was just telling him last week that I really want to go over it with him to make sure. I've always intended to write something up, but I just never have. He needs to do the same with all of his crypto-stuff. I wouldn't have a clue how to access any of it.

Part of me wishes he would be more involved. I think he'd respect the budget more lol

I think about that too. Can be very frustrating!

And the room was 25k of my hard earned Marriott points. Didn't want to waste a 35K cert. Checking the regular rate - $299 plus tax - $332.89 on a Tuesday night for 2 queen suite with a Bay view.

Amex just notified me that I will be getting another free night cert for my Biz in 8-12 weeks! Yay! Plus I should get the notification for my Lux card night fairly soon also. I wish they came like the Chase one's do, right on card anniversary date.
