Wait, pardon the brain fart but what’s LD?

We won’t be at the AP SWGE preview because we have Hamilton tix in NY that weekend. We have friends with access to other preview events and have been invited to one of those. We will be there opening day and have a VIP tour scheduled. So if you’re there I’d love to say Hi!
Labor Day because I am lazy :rotfl:

I will have to let you know what we decide on for Labor Day weekend!

That is utterly ridiculous! Just another reason you made the switch, right?
Yep! DS is still not thrilled about it but hopefully he will see the wisdom. And I know he will have no problem making friends and he and his current friends will just need to put some effort into remaining in contact.

He read exactly 1 book in the 7th grade at the very end of the year. Rest of the year they read short stories. I have to purchase Lord of the Flies, Animal Farm, Romeo and Julie and To Kill a Mockingbird. What a difference.

I currently have the Hilton Biz and Dh has the Hilton Honors card. I plan to call for a retention when mine hits one year. If I don't get one then I'll be closing it. I would need to refer him to the Hilton Biz. I really am leaning towards doing this because we can always stay at the Hiltons by WDW and our Gold status will be gone in September.

Where do I find the link to refer Dh?
In the app it's under Membership, on the website it should be above or below the transaction section on the home page. Or there's refer friends link in the footer of the page. (Should be this link AmEx RAF )

Second stupid plastiq question - I referred DH last month and still haven't used his. If I do $1000 payment will $500 of it be with fee and the 2nd half FFD? Or does it have to be 2 separate payments? And say if its $800 will it be $500 Fees/ $300 FFD and $200 FFD I can use later?

Any problems I’m not foreseeing with using my HHBiz to pay some tuition on Plastiq? By my calculation at a 1.5% fee I’d be pretty close to breaking even on points, and maybe it would help me get out of pop up jail. Also could go for the free weekend night possibly. I’ve been averaging around $500/month on this card so this would be quite a departure from that average. That’s one thing I’m not sure about.

I think many people value Hilton points at less than a penny, somewhere around 0.4 cpp, although you can do better at some of the higher end redemptions. The base earn rate is 3x Hilton points, so you're not quite breaking even but close enough. The FWN cert might be worthwhile to go after. Otherwise, I think you're good to go.

I think Hilton statuses go by the calendar year Mine resets in January

I do because it's easiest. SB has $25, $50, $100, and $250 PayPal "gift cards." So when buying SBs, you do have to buy enough to cash out using one or a combination of these denominations. They're valued at 100 SB for $1. You redeem, verify your information, and SB deposits the amount into your PayPal account a few days later, move it to your bank.

You can redeem SB for slight discounts on Visa eGCs. I see a $25 is on sale for 2,175 SB (13% off). I wonder if you can roll the eVGC back into buying more SB? And better discounts on third-party GCs.
I have rolled eVGC back into buying more SB a few times. :)

I'd guess online pickup, but I haven't tried that feature out yet. I think the only way is to somehow order from the web for the Discover category.

Good to hear. I'm hoping it'll show in a couple days but I think it's weird to not have the offer disappear yet. I'm pretty sure that's what happened in May when we used the last one - got email few minutes later, offer disappeared, couple days later credit when it fully posted - so hopefully it's just a weird AmEx quirk now. Thx!
I do know DH offer didn’t disappear until after the credit posted. Hopefully yours credits.

Those of you checking staples. The displays that hold the cards that turn apparently they store their extras in that stand. Went back today and they told me there was a 2k limit. The guy said I know we have more. He opened the display without a key. He said if I ever don’t see any out help myself and look.

Now if only I had more credit available
I could get a few more before heading home after DH surgery. Sitting here waiting.

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

Just want to vent - I will be a measly 8 nights away from regaining Marriott platinum elite status at the end of the year. Boo! They make it nearly impossible to gain platinum status unless you live in one of their properties - we stayed a LOT of nights this year. Too bad they don't count the 2nd room toward elite status - we would have qualified a long time ago.

Depends. If they are Hilton or a MR earning card, yes. If not, no.

One is, it’s amex everyday card. It’s my oldest one. The other is Blue cash everyday. But the only thing to refer to that is on the account is the for the same card.

I asked Dh what he thinks, but he'll be busy for awhile. His credit score has gone down quite a bit recently because he's been opening cards (while mine has gone up lol) so I know that might worry him about opening another card in his name.

I would suggest that opening a new biz card will probably not hurt DH's score as much as opening up or spending on a personal card (and may even help!).

With Amex, if DH is already a cardmember, they may not even conduct a hard pull. I've got 10 open Amex cards, and I don't recall getting a hard pull on any of them.

A hard pull typically dings my credit score by 2-6 points? Somewhere in that range. But it usually recovers within 2 months.

The thing about biz cards is, most of them don't get reported to your personal credit report. Chase, Amex, and Citi biz cards don't get reported. So if you're putting spend on a biz card, trying to meet a $3k-$5k MSR, racking up a balance on that biz card -- it doesn't affect your credit score because all that credit utilization doesn't show up on your personal credit reports. If you're putting most of your spend on your biz cards, and your personal cards aren't seeing much spend, then your personal cards will have very low % of credit utilization, which should bump up your credit score. And because the new biz card doesn't report to your personal credit report, it's not pulling down your Average Age of Accounts either so it won't hurt your credit score.

However, if open a new personal card, your Average Age of Accounts just dropped. If you're putting a lot of spend towards MSR on a personal card, that's increasing your balances and % of credit utilization, which will ding your credit score until those balances are paid down.

You may have already explored this, but I believe that under the new program you can get 10 elite nights for hosting a meeting at a Marriott property for the first meeting you hold during the year. Its a one and done (unless you get room blocks and stuff which can net more elite nights). I've held strategy meetings for our small rental business (basically me and DH in a conference room with our computers), and been charged a couple hundred dollars for the room rental fee. Check out the meetings and events section of the Bonvoy website, if you haven't already. If you are that close to platinum, might be worth spending a little bit to get there (if you will be able to use the Plat benefits).

With JB it's actually often better to transfer URs to JB. It really depends on the flight and whether you have a CSP or CSR. I do not have a CSR, so often it works out better for me to transfer URs to JB and book that way. It may work out better to book some JB flights directly through Chase with URs if you have a CSR though.
Thanks, no we don’t have CSR or csp yet. Only on our first CIP right now. I am thinking ahead to possible booking with JetBlue if any of our SW flights end up being canceled for November. Those are the only two airlines that fly direct from the airport we normally travel from.

Anyone file a claim with Equifax? SO and I were both compromised with the breach. I asked for five hours of compensation for time dealing with it and the $125 for each of us.

According to the Equifax site, both DH and I were compromised in the breach, so I filed claims for both of us yesterday for the cash. Neither of us has spent any time dealing with any fallout from the breach, so I did not put in for any hourly compensation.

Most people who can afford ABD I would wager they don't bother chasing points as much. You're a bit of an outlier. My kind of outlier, but an outlier nontheless. :)

I have to respectfully disagree with the portion of your post quoted above, @Andysol . We have taken trips with ABD, Nat Geo, Nat Hab, Thomson Family Adventures, etc. I completely acknowledge how fortunate we are to be able to afford to pay cash for these trips. However, it is huge to us to be able to earn at least 3x UR by paying for these trips with a CSR or CIP. I am an avid points chaser, and those points go towards airfare to get our family of 4 to/from these trips (most often in Coach but sometimes in Business or First if I can score saver awards) and sometimes towards hotels for pre- or post-nights around these trips. I do think we would have to cut down on the number of these types of trips we take if we also had to pay cash for the air transportation to/from. So I don't see at all how being able to afford an ABD (or similar) makes one not as interested in chasing points. Definitely not true for us....

I ordered this morning also and haven't received my confirmation email. I keep checking my account on BJ's site and the order just says "processing" so I guess we'll see.
I ordered this morning and got a confirmation email right away. As long as it says processing I wouldn’t worry yet. Maybe mine went in before they got busy.
