Ask tons of questions. The people on this thread are fantastic

Do not apply for credit cards through these blogs' affiliate links because you can often find the same or better offer elsewhere.

I mean, you certainly can if you prefer to help out a multimillionaire (or two) who is totally out of touch with the common folk instead of a friend/family member/cool disboarder. Sadly there's no LAW against it but frankly, I doubt even those of us in the shun clubhouse would share our oreos...and certainly not the sweet perfection known as diet dr pepper 🤣

I'm just going to put this out there: my opinion is that getting personalized advice from one of our expert contributors here is 1000x better than consulting blogs such as TPG or MMS.

BUT you also need to make sure that the person dishing out advice here knows what they are talking about. You'll often see me hang back on questions regarding international travel - because that isn't an area of expertise of mine. It would be easy for me to recommend a CIP, and then a CSR/CSP MDD (I mean seriously...can you go wrong with that strategy?) 😂 BUT when it comes to int'l flights, I totally understand that sometimes it's more about OTHER currencies. AND you need to earn those miles well in advance of the trip so sometimes the URs just have to take a backseat to getting the miles you need today.

This isn't directed anywhere in particular - just a general caution that as our group grows, we need to have a balanced approach in helping new folks and make sure we stick our fundamental goal which is to provide the BEST help regardless of personal preferences, support clicks, etc.

@speedyfishy - did you ever get your AA booking thing figured out? Did you try signing out and starting over? I know sometimes when I've been logged in awhile it gets glitchy and the points get "locked". If I start over and build exactly what I want before heading to the pay screen then it shows correctly. Just at thought :D

Anyone file a claim with Equifax? SO and I were both compromised with the breach. I asked for five hours of compensation for time dealing with it and the $125 for each of us.

I pay monthly for Life Lock (for myself and dd) as a result of the breach and have since the news broke. I am definitely filing a claim.

I have it and mine just renewed. I did get an email saying my upgrade and companion coupons were available. On checking my account I find 1 upgrade coupon and 2 companion coupons. Do last years companion carry over as I didn't use what they gave me last year? Also, what does 12 hour mean with the upgrade coupon? Thanks!

My intention was/is to use my points on auto train probably in February.

Crazy, this must have been an announced promotion from around the time we signed up. I kind of wonder if it would happen again if I get another card. I'll test that theory.

And no, last year's coupons do not carry over. They expire one year after issuance and I've never heard of Amtrak extending certificates. You can see the expiration date on your account. If you have 2 coupons, they are 100% from your renewal and not a carryover from last year (my account also shows my redeemed coupons from last year).

12-hour means you cannot apply the upgrade coupon until your trip is 12 hours or less away. For example, if you were booked on a coach Northeast Regional tomorrow morning at 7 AM, you could check tonight at 7 PM. Provided there were still business class available, you could apply the coupon. You can't use them to upgrade from coach to sleeper, though.

Yes yes yes! @SouthFayetteFan, @Lain, @speedyfishy and a few others on this board are so very helpful. Please support members on this board with their links. Please do not support TPG or MMS who do not give unbiased advice -- only advice that puts $$ in their pockets.

I gave up. I didn’t not try signing in and out but I’ll go check again now.

For those wondering about the buy SB. I didn't buy any yesterday and it only let me buy one today. Course that doesn't mean it wouldn't have done the same yesterday. :confused3

I didn't even post that in reference to support links, LOL! I just don't want people grabbing lower bonuses when there are higher ones available. A lot of the advice lately has been to pursue AA cards and those don't even have support links. But that's what you'll get here - the best advice regardless of whether "support" factors in :D

OMG yes! The way TPG flies, where he goes, and the places he stays are sooooooo out of touch with most people, including I’m sure many of his readers. TPG sells uses aspirational travel to sell credit cards, but most of the advice he and the blog peddles maybe will get you one trip of a lifetime, the way they push cards without regard to (or warning about) each issuer’s rules and guidelines for approval and bonuses, and certainly won’t get you his lifestyle. Most of us don’t have a business that spends millions of dollars on advertising, dining and travel every year that we can run through credit card bonus categories and spit out tens of millions of points on the other end. It’s interesting that TPG’s brought in Summer Hull (Mommy Points) and Richard Kerr (Award Travel 101) to expand (diversify?) the blog’s content and viewpoint.

P.S. I’m sorry for offending some people with this quickly worded reply, and I expand on these thoughts later in the conversation so I hope you can understand what I mean and where I’m coming from. I do not mean to sweep anyone here who travels in first or business, which is the aspiration of many here — myself included — into these statements, or to suggest anyone here is out of touch because of the way they travel.

DoC doesn't mention any ETF. Fees are for specific things, paper statements etc. Rate is supposed to be really good, so I will just leave mine there for awhile. I had no issues last time I had an account with them, closing it.
I did it awhile ago for the $100 bonus but I didn’t have any fees for transferring the money out and there was no minimum balance so I had a $1 in our accounts for awhile before closing.
The rate is so good, I might just stick some money from a lower rate account in there LOL

Is this a money market account or checking account? I just want to make sure I’m getting the right one to sign up for. Even better if it does have an interest rate.

Anyone file a claim with Equifax? SO and I were both compromised with the breach. I asked for five hours of compensation for time dealing with it and the $125 for each of us.

Thanks for the reminder. I looked at it this morning and need to fill out the stuff.
