So @afan suggested (and I totally agree) that we don't really keep track much of our touring strategies, FP strategies, etc. anywhere. I'd imagine we have some tips that could be helpful in that arena.

So we already have our WDW tips thread:
You may not have realized that we had a touring strategies subcategory already there:
Please try to populate that area with any FP tips or resources that you've found helpful that could help our community. IF this would become a big hit, I could split it out into it's own thread over there but honestly our track record of supporting multiple threads there is not good AND we just attempted to launch 4 new tips threads (which so far have no comments, lol). When we refresh the WDW tips thread in a couple of months we'll decide if we want to make "travel planning" and "touring strategies" as two separate posts or not.

Thanks!

EDIT: and as a reminder, here are the categories we have on that thread:
  • Using Cash Back to offset costs
  • Chase Ultimate Rewards (URs)
  • AMEX Membership Rewards (MRs)
  • Citi Thank Points (TY)
  • AAdvantage Miles
  • US Bank Altitude Reserve points
  • Disney Gift Card discounts
  • Renting DVC points
  • Swan & Dolphin
  • Other Off-site Hotel recommendations and ideas
  • Citi Prestige 4th night free benefit
  • Using Bank Bonuses to offset costs
  • Other Ticket Discussion (i.e. Undercover Tourist, upgrading to APs, etc.)
  • Travel Agents (renamed for safety)
  • Touring Strategies
  • Finding discounted Disney Resorts on 3rd party sites
(The ones that are links I feel have some decent tips - some of the others are slightly lacking, lol)

A question about tipping . . . How much do you all tip the driver for UberEats and/or Shipt?

I have the $15 credit for Uber that I am thinking about using for UberEats -- up until last month I actually had two plats so a $30 credit, which sort of made sense to use even after all of the Uber fees plus a tip. But now that I have one plat and one $15 credit, it seems to make no sense to even bother with an UberEats order because the whole $15 would essentially be fees plus tip. (I think I am going to have to check out the banking tip that Albort posted about.)

As for Shipt, I have a $30 back on a $99 purchase but given that Shipt here marks things up about 20%, I am not sure that there's any actual savings after fees plus tip.

I'm coming to the conclusion that these services really are only for people who are willing to pay for the convenience of having a driver bring food to the front door. Which of course is fine, but not helping me see the value in the AF for the AmEx cards.

I always wonder about tipping too..

I used my UberEats credit yesterday to order indian food. My total was only $20, maybe a little more and I tipped $6. I will say that I was a waitress for years and I know whats its like to work for tips because we were only paid $2.14 an hour. I use the restaurant delivery services quite a bit because I have a special needs child who is very particular with food so I really need people to work these jobs!! I'm not sure what part of the fees they get to keep if any?

For grocery, which I rarely use, I tip 15-20% of the bill. I just went with what I do at restaurants since I don't know anybody who uses these services who I can ask.

We have some Chihuly here in Columbus so I have seen that already. We'll probably put that last or not spend much time there.
Good to know about sunset. Being from the east, I probably will not make it after 9pm! I am usually in bed at 10pm eastern time and 9pm in Seattle will feel like midnight!!

Any recommendations for restaurants near the waterfront? Would love a good seafood place with great views if possible.
We enjoyed Elliotts Oyster House https://www.elliottsoysterhouse.com/

On Chihuly, I may be a little crazed. 🤪 I will take every opportunity to see him whatever, wherever!

I totally get the time difference thing. We usually go to WDW from the west coast. I don't think I have EVER rope dropped, that would be like getting up at 2:30am for me. NO WAY! LOL

It's annoying having to go to bed before the sun's fully down in the summer. Not sure how I'd do in Alaska or Norway.

There's Ivar's, it's counter service and a local chain though I know there was one in Valley Fair in San Jose, not sure where else they've spread. It's decent. For sit down there's an Anthony's though I think they have a take out window. They have good food. Honestly, I'd ask at the hotel for advice too. The only place we'd actually drive into Seattle to go to was at fisherman's terminal near the ballard locks where most/all of the fishing boats actually come in, not sure if it's there any more. We generally don't go to Seattle to eat since anything that's there I can go to within 15 minutes of my house, an Ivar's or an Anthony's. @Albort might have a suggestion, can't remember where he said they ate.
I was just reading through tripadvisor for restaurants. I had Anthony's on my list. I'll need to look up Ivar's.

The time change usually helps us when we travel west. I am an early riser but the kids are not. By sticking to Ohio time, I can get them out the door in the morning at a decent time. But it does suck that I don't make it past 8 or 9PM when we are on the West Coast.

I did make it a priority on my DL visit to see the fireworks. So I did make it to 11pm that night.

It's nice to have a tribe. I don't want to miss CoP, the Peoplemover, the Tiki Room and so many other attractions. I just don't understand riding the same 2-3 rides all day.

Yikes! I really can't see that happening. June is already pretty busy. :(
Carousel of progress and people mover have become my favorite rides at magic kingdom. It used to be btmr but I love the charm of those two rides. We only try riding things multiple times at dah.

REMINDER: If you have Amex charge cards (e.g., Green, Gold, Platinum, and their business versions) that haven’t been enrolled in Pay Over Time, you should check to see if your cards are Targeted for 10,000 Membership Rewards Points For Enrolling In Pay Over Time.

These targeted links come out periodically in batches and may work on your cards even if you didn’t receive an email or mailer, so you should check back often. In my experience, most of these links seem to work on business charge cards, but it’s worth trying on your personal charge cards. Also be aware that Amex started including Pay Over Time as a standard “benefit” on some of their charge cards as of late last year, most notably the refreshed Amex Gold and Biz Gold cards. If your cards are already enrolled in Pay Over Time, you’ll need to chat with Amex and ask to unenroll before you can get targeted for this easy 10k MR offer.

Ok, trying to keep up with all the posts about FP from today so forgive me if I missed something. Are what people saying is on FP booking day, you just take whatever there is at whatever time and then try to modify? Or are you all talking about day of when you’re in the park?

@disneymagicgirl would you say this is worth it for a larger group? I’d be willing to pay $10 to help me out with booking for 6 people.

What I was referring to, that was worth the $10 to me, is a method of grabbing same day FP #4, 5, 6, whatever, for headliners. It is NOT the refresh method. There are certain times you can usually get one. It worked for me for our group of 9 over Memorial Day weekend. So yes, I'd say it was worth my $10. I'd rather pay $10 and have the info at my fingertips than spend a bunch of time searching for it b/c my time is limited these days, but it sounds like you can search away and maybe find some of the info on the dis somewhere. :flower:

Hi, I’m Bernina and I have a problem. I’ve never been on carousel of progress :rolleyes1

I’m going in August and will attempt to correct my my misguided ways... (I don’t think I’ve been into the Tiki Room either unless my parents took me when I was 8).

Fun fact. Taron Egerton voiced “Johnny” (the Gorilla) in “Sing” and did a fantastic performance of Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing.” As far as I’m concerned, he was perfectly cast for Rocketman.
Fun fact I did not know! I want to see that one. Maybe I can get DH to go to the $5 night this week

I want to take DH to see some of his stuff. We have a piece in the denver botanical gardens from when they had the exhibit there, but we didnt make it to the actual exhibit. I did see it when it was in the Phoenix botanical gardens.

Don't feel bad. I just did Hall of Presidents for the first time in March.

Yup I have that soundtrack on my phone too. So now I have two versions of Taron singing I’m Still Standing. I love it!

Hi Bernina. You do have a slight problem but I think I can help. If you go into Tomorrowland and take a slight right before the giant mountain, you’ll get your required dose of therapy.

Dh and I did tiki room for the first time this past January. Not one of our favorites but the song does get stuck in our heads.

The AFs have posted for DH’s CSP/CSR that he double dipped last year.

For CSR we pay fee, quickly use $300 travel credit, then call Chase and PC to CFU? I have a CSR so we still have a 1.5 multiplier. Then next year when fee posts we upgrade, pay full $450 fee and get another $300 credit (if we choose)?

For CSP, do I close or should I PC that to a second Freedom? I assume AF will be refunded within I think 30 days?

I might sound crazy, but I’d prefer to watch CoP or Tiki Room vs ride BTMRR a 3rd time... I just like to experience everything when we’re at Disney.
Not crazy to me! We actually do want to ride BTMRR for a third (or fourth time) but CoP and Tiki Room and Peoplemover are just as much favs. We want to do it all while at WDW. My kids do love to ride their favs over and over and over and I love it too so no complaints from me :)
