I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

There are people in this thread that have successfully gotten rid of that pop up on Amex and gotten the card they wanted with the bonus. I wouldn't give up but figure out what cards you do have and then report back. People here can help advise what to do.

I don't see this thread as gaming anything, though I suppose it could be seen that way. There are several people here that get the cards and keep the cards while others churn through cards and keep very few. There's no one way to do it and everyone is welcome regardless of how you love credit cards.
I'll try again in a month or so. My dh works for an airline so I never need to buy tickets. On occassion, I like to use points for flights. Sometimes I don't want the stress of being on standby. Especially if I don't have a cushion before I have to be back to work. Therefore I do have three airline cards.
I'm going to WDW free{other then food} in two weeks. SW there and Delta back with points. 3 nights at Hyatt Regency Cypress for 36,000 points and using my Capital one points for 5 nights at CSR.
The Capital one card has been my main card the last two years, but now that I've gotten the Chase Preferred I see that those points are much more valuable. The Hyatt would have cost me 900.00 dollars if I was paying cash and I got the three nights for only 36,000 points. Going forward I'm going to make the CP my card of choice. I considered getting the Chase Hyatt because Hyatt points go a long way. After the bonus is gone I'm not sure I'd use the card. It doesn't have a great return. I'm still kicking myself for not getting the Chase Reserve.

I'm not totally committed to staying on Waikiki beach but my son very much wants to stay in Honolulu and be in a big city. The HHV was kind of where I was looking as I might be diamond with Hilton by the time we visit and may have a free hilton night cert. I am def open to suggestions on other locations not on the beach and frankly not in the middle of the city. This Oahu portion of the trip is definitely in flux. We will rent a car on both island so we will have mobility.

Points wise I have I'll have 400k UR points here in a month when p2s CIP2 sub comes in and will probably get another couple of CIPs between the 2 of us by end of year. I am down to 50k Hilton after spending 285k on the Grand Wailea. 120k SW points and 80k AA.
Grand Wailea was next door to our hotel...we walked the gardens and grounds...it is the most beautiful resort I've ever seen(I love gardens and landscaping) That strip of beach + the weather in that part of Maui is AWESOME. We enjoyed MonkeyPods right up the street from there for happy hour...really good mai-tais in there! There's Island Market right past the mall area that's really convenient to walk up for general travel needs(my fam is reallly relaxed and we ate some our meals up there from the deli- cute little tourist market with lots of food choices also.

Hi there and welcome back to the thread!

I would typically PM you an invite to our DISchurners reddit group but you have to have 10 messages to PM so I will do that right here :) In that group we have some guides that keep track of our best tips you can also support another DISer when you apply for a card! To join I just need your reddit username (or you can join at reddit.com and just let me know). Let me know and I can get you all setup.

So, the Kohls and Macys cards do not count. You are at 4/24 AND all 4 of your cards fall off in September it seems!
09/17 - Wells Fargo Cash Wise Visa Platinum
09/17 - Bank of America Cash Rewards Visa Signature
09/17 - Chase Freedom Unlimited
09/17 - Barclays Cash Forward

So you're willing to go for biz cards BUT you're not sure if you qualify. Here's a sample list of activities that could qualify you: Owning a Rental Property, Selling on eBay, Consulting, Babysitting, Mowing Lawns, Teaching Piano, Tutoring, Selling Cookies, really any side hustle activity that makes you money. You do not need to be filing some sort of business tax return to qualify. You also could be "thinking" about starting one of these activities and project your revenue (I know some people have done that too).

The answer to this question is somewhat important because it will greatly affect the recommendations we give you.
  • If you feel that you DO qualify for biz cards then we're wholeheartedly going to recommend a Chase Ink Preferred (CIP) and its 80,000 point bonus (this can be worth upwards of $1,200).
  • If you are NOT going for biz cards, I'd probably turn to a Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP) and/or Chase Sapphire Reserve (CSR). I'd actually recommend we discuss a MDD (Modified Double Dip) there and get both cards. I can provide more clarity on that too once we settle on a strategy. Your high level of monthly spend means this shouldn't pose a huge problem for you.
  • SIDE NOTE: 2 out of the 3 cards I've mentioned here do offer support links that you could support another DISer potentially. They also can be great cards to get because then you could turn around and have your Husband potentially apply for one and earn the support points yourself!
Your husband is an authorized user on these cards which hurts BUT we can assist in resolving that if it makes sense. During the past 24 months, has he applied for any cards using his SSN? That is also a very important detail as we plan here. You're also going to want to stop adding each other as AUs as you move forward in this game (except on biz cards which I can explain more on that if you decide to go after them).

Not a big deal but it can be very hard to keep up with our thread without checking in somewhat regularly. Joining that DISchurners group may provide you with an easier way to see the major discussion topics on our news thread. Obviously you can also send PMs on the DIS once you get up to 10 messages so you might want to comment a bit more frequently :)
Thanks for your response!

Thanks for your reply! I think my username is Cynthia Lang. Email is poohlovr717@hotmail.com. If you could send me an invite that would be great. I would be willing to do the business cards and would qualify. My husband has not applied for any credit cards in the last 2 years.

Exciting cc news in the LuckyMama household-----my reluctant P2 dh was approved overnight for his first business card, a CIP

I'm already figuring out when I should use his referral to get a CIP of my own :thumbsup2

Wow, I remember how reluctant DH was about getting biz cards and how he wanted to trim back on the Chase cards you've already gotten! Congratulations!

My win for last night: 5 tickets direct from KSC was going to cost $310.94. The best discount I was finding was $253.51 through Sam's Club. Otherwise Chase UR portal was $259.20 or 17,280 points.

Well, Expedia has 20% off $40+ in activities going on. And being logged in on their site gave me the same price as the UR portal. And then i got to use the 20% code. And I went through the Ebates portal for 8% back. And I paid with FILs CSR to use the travel credit, which had just reset yesterday. So I paid $207.36 and should get $16.59 from ebates 😁

I was going to use points for DH and I just to lessen cash OOP but need to use up the travel credits for ILs so i can cancel those cards, so I am just going to 'pay ILs back' with the equivalent points on my spreadsheet since all of the URs are on DHs CSR.

Hello from Versailles! DF & I are at the Waldorf Trianon Palace and it's been amazing. We did a bike ride on the palace grounds, picnic in the gardens, various palace tours, a guided food & wine tour around the city, and last night we had dinner at the Gordon Ramsay restaurant, which was great.

We booked a total of 6 nights in the following configuration:

Night 1, Wednesday 5/22: King Pavilion Room with Garden View, 125K HHonors points (cash rate $416)

Night 2, Thursday 5/23: King Pavilion Room with Garden View, 125K HHonors points (cash rate $416)

Night 3, Friday 5/24: King Pavilion Room, FREE - Amex Hilton Aspire Weekend Night Certificate #1 (cash rate $571)

Night 4, Saturday 5/25: King Pavilion Room, FREE - Amex Hilton Aspire Weekend Night Certificate #2 (cash rate $571)

Night 5, Sunday, 5/26: King Pavilion Room, FREE - Amex Hilton Biz Weekend Night Certificate (cash rate $531)

Night 6, Monday, 5/27: King Terrasse Suite, 495K HHonors points (cash rate $2,300)

You can see we spent a total of 745,000 points on this trip.

- 225K in HHonors account to start
- 150K bonus from Hilton Aspire
- 125K bonus from Hilton Biz
- 393K points from all required spending

= 893K points, so we have 148K left just from this particular run

I should mention that I'm not a big Hilton cheerleader. I'm a Hyatt person & my ranking of major hotel chains is Hyatt > Hilton > IHG > Bonbon. HOWEVER...

The Aspire made it almost too easy to earn the needed points... we went away one weekend, spent $450 on room/meals/incidentals & came back with 16.3K points (9K from Hilton, 6.3K from Amex, and a 1K bonus). That said, now that we're done earning the points we need, this card is not going to be in heavy rotation. It's not really worth using unless you're chasing a bonus (or buying a house with plenty of expenses to spread around on various CCs). But, it will stay in my "collection" because I think we can make the free night & resort credit work to more than cancel out the AF. That's saying something considering the AF on this card is $450, whereas the Bloobloo card has an AF that's about 25% of that and it's probably getting the axe.

The Monday night 495K rate sounds like a lot of points but the Fêtes Galantes (fancy dress event) is tonight & we booked the day it was announced, making it a fabulous rate for that particular room. (I am currently getting my hair done - the stylist & I have exhausted our ability to communicate with each other, thus I am writing about churning on my phone.) You cannot see the redemption rate online so you're at the mercy of the phone agent. We did spend some time wondering if that was a "mistake" rate of sorts (or at least booked before the system updated for the special event), and if we were going to wake up & find that booking knocked out, but it held... & when I wanted to add Tuesday night in a "regular" room, they quoted me some ridiculous rate around 525K that I posted about here. No thanks.

We decided to gamble that they would leave us in the same room for the first five nights even though the certificate did not entitle us to the same view category. As HHonors Diamond (thanks to Aspire!) I am eligible for a complimentary upgrade & we thought it would be easy enough to not take it on the GV room, but to request it on the non-GV room, thus making it so we didn't have to move. If we had to move, we would have been okay with that, but it was worth a try.

They didn't give us the upgrade we requested.

They just put us in the suite all week.

& we are beside ourselves, feeling as though we have our own private palace. We never want to say "au revoir" now!

LOOK AT THIS VIEW!

I will post more pics in the hotel review thread at some point.

As an aside, there are many people who seem to come here to take pictures with rented luxury cars & then drive away. Not sure what is going on there. It made us laugh because you just know some of those pictures are going up on Instagram like “it’s so hard to be this rich; stay tuned for my next adventure where I try to humble & find myself by begpacking through Southeast Asia #blessed” One clown was even holding up the keys & a piece of paper like he just bought the car. Dude, we watched you reposition that car for 10 minutes so the rental tag wouldn’t be in the picture. Never believe what you see on social media!!!

Apparently you can’t get to the airport too early. Our flight leaves at 11:30 so we got here at 7:30 hoping to drop off bags and go to the lounge but our airline checkin desk doesn’t open until 8:45. Idk if we’ll even have enough time to go to the lounge. Hopefully we will because I need some breakfast. We’ve just never done an international flight so not sure what to expect with security

Is the lounge after security and in the same terminal? You should have enough time. Do you have precheck? When I went to the Bahamas going there was normal they just checked my passport at the check in desk before security. Coming back home and landing in the Bahamas was when things were different.

I booked flights to Disneyland in September for my birthday! On Southwest so it’s refundable. I hope we can go. SOs vacation time is tight and I hope to be able to swing it all on points. I hope I can stay on property with AA miles, but I may stay at the Hyatt or Fairfield inn. SO says we should go all out for my birthday and stay at the Grand Californian. I really do not want to pay cash. September is when the full payment for the wedding is due so if I don’t have it all on points it isn’t happening lol.

Thanks for the suggestions! I do have the CF, but we've been getting gas at Costco because it's convenient and the price tends to be better. 1.5X from the CFU is better than 1X from the CF there. The Costco card is calling my name because of that little stipulation that Costco only accepts Visa cards... :rolleyes2 While getting gas there has it's benefits, I'd feel better if my reward benefits were better as well lol.
I think you can still go online and buy Costco gift cards with Discover or MC (no Amex) then use those for gas and Costco purchases. Just be warned they take a long time to be delivered, maybe 2 weeks, so don’t order them if you’re in a hurry.
I don't do FB at all but I like that we can some different reactions to a post without actually quoting the post and responding.
FB has the like, plus love, angry, few others like here.
Yeah, I'm pretty bummed about that. I was sort of on a quest to get my Likes: Posts ratio up to 5x. Interestingly enough, I never encounter anybody elsewhere on the DIS who has the kind of Likes: Posts that we have here. MOST people aren't even at 1:1 yet we have tons of people with way more likes than posts. I think it just goes to show how we are the most awesome group on the DIS :D
Of course we are
