Hey, I like bonuses too; but I also keep my relationships with the credit card issuers in good standing. It’s a lot of work, but I’ve never gotten a bonus denial pop up from Amex. I also know exactly which cards I have or have had, how much I spend on them each month, when their statements close and when payment is due, when I opened them, when I closed or product changed them, and when their annual fees if any come up for renewal.

I’m sorry if you take any offense to being labeled a “gamer.” That’s Amex’s wording, not mine. In the past two years, Amex has really tightened up on what they perceive as rewards abuses, and unfortunately that can include patterns of behavior or spending that is otherwise entirely innocuous and sweep up perfectly innocent cardmembers and potential customers.

I noticed you citing advice from TPG earlier. They’re going to paint as rosy a picture about signing up for credit cards because they make money off you applying through their affiliate links. I just told you how Amex really is, just as I warn everyone here thinking about applying for Amex cards, and I would never advise anyone in our community to sign up for a new Amex card, hit the MSR only for the bonus, stop spending on it and burn their relationship with Amex for all future bonuses.

The bonus denial pop up is not a permanent ban. It’s dynamic based on your ongoing spend and relationship with Amex. So good luck, and I hope you shake it.
I wasn't offended by being called a gamer. It's kind of what this thread is about. I appreciate the advice. I'm kind of in love with my Capital one and Chase Saphire, but kicking myself for not getting the reserve. I'm hoping to upgrade it in a few months. Putting a bunch of Spend on the Amex I have know wouldn't be worth it. Unfortunately, I got the wrong card. My bad.

@mmmears - this is what I’d do. Before you try for CIP2, consider dropping your CIP1 CL down to $500 or $1k, especially if you find you’re not using it much. That should open up some room to open another CIP. If you’re denied, you could apply for the CSP via P2’s support link that same day, because while you can’t have any other Chase applications in the 30 days before a biz application, you can have 1 other application (like the CIP) in the 30 days before you apply for a Chase personal card (so a possible CIP denial won’t push you out from applying for the CSP for another 30 days).
@mmmears - when @Lain and I are in agreement with our advice - that's usually a pretty good sign that it's the right strategy :D HAHA!

The most offensive thing to me was that they narrowed it down to literally 3 hotels (all Marriott) in ALL of Orlando. They didn't even list any other options - just said, "these are your options if you want to go for free". Orlando has somewhere in the vicinity of 150k rooms across hundreds of hotels and without asking any questions you've narrowed it down to Swolphin or some Sheraton across from a Shoney's?? (not that there's anything wrong with Shoney's). What about on-site vs. off-site? What about Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, and a crap-ton of other Marriott properties out there? And even if Swolphin is the right answer...it seems to me that AA miles would actually be better than Marriott points lol. So bad...SO BAD... But SHOW ME THE AFFILIATE LINKS I guess, right??
TPG wannabe

Just realized we can 'like' a PM. Pretty sure that is new but maybe it was there before and I just missed it.

Oooooh you make a good point. I do recall you had to "fight" for that first one... Hmmm - that makes it a tough call.

CSP w/ husband link: 60k + 15k + 4k for $4k MSR = 79k URs

CIP w/ husband link: 80k + 20k + 5k for $5k MSR = 105k URs

Both are honestly good options...CIP is decidedly better. Since your husband is PCing his CSP, his link will still work so no real worries there. I might try for CIP2 first, if that fails then turn to CSP... But do what you feel most comfortable with :) CSP would not be a bad move either.

Thanks for this. Yeah, I did have to call. There was something wrong with my app (2 diff SS #s somehow) and I had to escalate it to avoid having to go to an office with all sorts of documents. Made me pretty reluctant to try again.

That's an interesting idea. My only concern with that is that my app was pending for more than a day last time. If it takes a long time to go through that could be an issue. But this is definitely something I'll consider.

It really is. I can't argue with that. I'll just have to see if I can get up the courage to try again. It wasn't fun the first time around. Also the lower MSR might be good. The other card I've been thinking about is a Citi AA Biz (after reading about Barclay I'm not willing to try for that one). But I'd rather get the MRs than AA miles.

Does anybody else feel tempted to go out on random threads and just react "angry" to normal everyday comments and see what happens as a prank...lol :lmao:

................oh...that's just me...yeah I'm strange like that, lol!
It does kind of sound fun lol! Like not just the angry but the sad or surprised faces, where it's not appropriate :)

So lost in all the excitement of the new board today...I forgot to share that we MIGHT be doing Universal in November. My sister wants to go and my wife is coming around to it. And I could finally use a ton of URs to cover two rooms and tickets for 7 (including my parents)!! It would be a short trip, In on Saturday afternoon, out on Tuesday morning with just 2 park days.

We've done 2 Universal trips - 1 at Cabana Bay and 1 at the Doubletree that's walkable to Uni. This trip though, I think we'd want to spring for another on-site hotel AND probably one that offers free Express Pass.

So from what I know that rules out these resorts:
Endless Summer Resort, Universal's Aventura Hotel, Cabana Bay Beach Resort, Sapphire Falls Resort

So that brings us to this list:
Royal Pacific Resort, Hard Rock Hotel, Portofino Bay Hotel
  • DISchurner friends - out of those three... any recommendations? Any major differences I should be aware of??
Also just to confirm - you get the Express Pass Unlimited which means you can use it unlimited times on all the participating rides? That sounds pretty sweet - vs. the regular express which it seems is single use...

It's very early stage right now, and my wife isn't fully on board yet...but hopefully we can get there! I did grab SW flights with points for now just to have them :)

@SouthFayetteFan I noticed that we no longer have a 'like' count. We have a 'reactions' count. I'm not sure I like that. I figure you don't. 'Likes' makes you feel popular and important but 'Reactions' is kind of just meh.
Yeah, I'm pretty bummed about that. I was sort of on a quest to get my Likes: Posts ratio up to 5x. Interestingly enough, I never encounter anybody elsewhere on the DIS who has the kind of Likes: Posts that we have here. MOST people aren't even at 1:1 yet we have tons of people with way more likes than posts. I think it just goes to show how we are the most awesome group on the DIS :D

I can't figure out how to refer my dh for the BBP from my personal plat. Didn't see any guide for this on DISchurners and all the googling I did just kept telling me you cannot refer from a personal to a biz card though I know that isn't right. Also, is there no bonus for the BBP? My dh was targeted in the past for 20k but the timing wasn't right. If we only get the 15k from me referring, maybe we wait? I have until Aug to cancel his biz green (only MR card he has).
I just did the BBP and it has 10k bonus for $3k MSR. But I got 20k MR for the referral.

I have stayed at all 3 of the deluxe and can confirm that you do indeed get unlimited EP which is totally awesome! (Just waiting to see in June if we get it on Hagrid’s Motorbike also). We done club level at HRH and PBR so far but will be trying RPR’s club in June. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. HRH has the shortest walk to the parks especially UO. RPR is a short walk to the IoA entrance. And PBR we typically take the boat since it is the longest (but doable) walk to the parks. DS refers the RPR’s vibe and I love the Mediterranean feel of PBR.

I have created a monster and DS doesn’t want to stay anywhere but a deluxe for the EP. We have done the early entrance once since with the EP there is no need to get early. Although that one time we did get to see Peyton Manning filming something in the Wizarding World at IoA which was kind of neat.

I don’t think you will be disappointed with any of the three.
