I'm near the end of my spends for the two Amex cards I got last month (DH-SPG, Me-Blue Business) However, I have some remodeling expenses coming up. I'd like something that can get me some savings at Home Depot or Lowe's while getting a nice SUB for the spend. Any suggestions? I actually think I'm 0/24 because all I've done is upgrade my gold Amex (I don't think that was a pull) and got the Blue business, which shouldn't count. DH is temporarily unavailable as player 2, but should be available again within the month (he's nervous about his credit rating at the moment since he needs it for a heloc). I currently hold no other active cards except I am an AU on DH's really old United Chase card.

So it’s a crazy world over there - my understanding of the progression is:
  • People under 5/24 are the only ones that can go for this and if you’re under 5/24 on r/churning you’re a “dumb noob”
  • But the “dumb noobs” like to prove they are dumb and noobs by repeatedly posting DPs of successful CIP#2 (seriously...we get it...even my patience can be tested)
  • So then the more experienced folks start shaming people for repeatedly posting this - mostly because we all get it now, and it means nothing to 90% of the people there (as they’re over 5/24 anyways)
  • Then another group of experienced folks think this shaming is “censorship” and start to spam it everywhere as a “joke” which annoys the rest of the experienced folks and the “non-dumb noobs” (not all noobs are dumb)
  • At some point then the mods have to weigh in with some “state of the issue” post or stickier comment that causes even more drama
  • Eventually it’s discussed so frequently that one blog will pick it up and write about it
  • Then every other blog has to get in on the action too
  • Once this happens cue loophole shutdown in 3...2...1...

I wonder if once you get CIP #2, if you can also get CIC and CIU #2?

So I know it’s not Sunday for 10 more minutes lol...but somebody on r/churning posted this topic and I thought it could be fun for us on a Sunday (which is typically slower around here):
  • As we approach the end of Q1 what cards did you get in the 1st 3 months of the year?
  • And an added question for our group: what cards do you anticipate getting in the next 3 months?

-between the 2 of us we did 8
P1- CIU, Amex delta gold, CIU
P2- Amex business BBP, Green, Delta Gold,
Amex question...since I am unsure how we could use MRs...we will not apply for the high annual fee cards...
looking at no AF, waived first year AF or low AF cards.... anyone applied for say the plum card just for the referral bonus with plans on cancelling it in a year...honestly don’t care about a pop up

Q1 was a little slower for us. First Citi AA Biz and CIP for P1 and Arrival+ for P2.

Q2 will likely be Citi AA Biz #2 for P1 and then anything else that comes along that fits the plan. We have enough points for flights for all of our trips in 2019 and 2020 and I just need to figure out what hotel we want to use in Vancouver before our cruise in Sept 2020. I probably have the points I need there too, but we haven’t dabbled in hotel points yet, so I might try something there.

I'm sorry to be such a pain and you can always tell me to scram but should we go for the sapphire premium or reserve if I plan to cruise this year and next? I know the reserve has a much higher yearly cost but it does have the $300 travel credit and then the points are worth more right? Do spouses usually share an account or can we each get one to double the bonus points?

Since your traveling I’d apply for the CSR...for one of you and have the other get the the CSP....we don’t add each other as authorized users on cards since for personal cards it counts against your 5/24

Do you have or considered chase business cards ? They have high sign up bonuses and don’t add to your 5/24 count...plus you can add each other as employees

Did you do an EIN citi Biz? Trying to figure out how you navigated the 1/90 day restriction...any tricks there I'm not thinking of?

I guess my other one was just in Q4 of last year because I had no EIN. Sorry I wasn’t looking at my spreadsheet when I answered. I just applied for my third business card with 24 month language but I’m going to see if the bonus still posts.

I’d apply for the Chase Ink Business CIP...80,000 UR bonus after a $5k spend in the first 3 months ....after DH is ok to start applying again you can refer him for one...you get 20k...plus his 80k...easy 190k URs after the MSRs

Just got NFCU Flagship Rewards and finished MSR (4K in 90 days) with one $5K purchase. Finally did my roof and the contractor that I eventually selected would only take 5K. The rest was by check. But, the company was almost 4K under the smallest bid by others, including Home Depot (the next lowest) which would have taken all on credit. And, the job was done completely in 8 and 1/2 hours, including tear off and clean up. Plus, it is beautiful!

I'm trying to get back under 5/24, but only half heartedly. Obviously I couldn't let the above spend go to waste. I'm tempted by Hilton Aspire just because @calypso726 wants 2! So, I should go look for another business card somewhere, but I think I'll at least try to chill. Don't know if I can do it. Maybe if I hold out as long as possible and then do a business card to get the fomo out of my system for a few months.

We've been moving more slowly so far this year. I've gotten an AA biz and personal. DW got the Amex Blue Cash Everyday (self-refer before 1099s hit, yikes), Amex Green, and Citi Premier.

Undecided how many cards we will hit next quarter. DW has a mailer for the Citi Premier, so she'll be getting another one. She's out of 1/60 tomorrow, in fact, so that will happen soon. She also has 2 mailers for AA personal. I used one, will likely use the other as well next month.

Hmm I never thought of that. I think that’s a great idea tho and it’s a charge card.

Do you not record when you finish reading them? That’s what I do so I can remember. All of my books I read are young adult fiction and usually have the same kind of theme so they do get repetitive. I’ve read books before where I swore I’d read it before but I’d keep reading and realize I really hadn’t read it.
this makes me laugh.... my DSIS records every book she's read her entire life... I kept trying but failing to record mine....I read at least 2-3 books a week and just gave up. That said, I don't know what a lexcile score is for reading ...and the concept of a 'reading level' baffles me (esp. for kiddos) I've always read what interested me,and I let my kids do the same. (they were homeschooled, prob. why I'm unfamiliar with the terms lol) Once I knew they could read fluently, it was up to them overall what to read. Kids picture books, comics, graphic novels, wimpy kid books (I had boys lol) it was all fine with me. (Within reason,we had a pg rating max in our household) I admit there are times when I've started a book, only to realize I'd already read it.... sorry I got swept up in the O/T posts too:rotfl2:

What did I get in Q1? NOTHING. (same for DH) :scared:
What will I get in Q2? Something from Chase maybe if my 5/24 projections are correct.

Q1 Me: CIP#2, Citi AA Biz, Citi AA Pers, Barclay AA Biz, Barclay AA Pers, Citi AA Pers #2
Q1 DW: CIP #2

Q2 Me: Citi AA Biz #2, More AA personals IF Disney comes back on the train.
Q2 DW: Not sure, I am keeping her slow and staying away from chase to catch the SW CP at the end of the year. May put her on the Biz train if Disney comes back.

Might be too much like school but what about historical fiction? Or even non fiction? I started reading books about baseball and auto/biographies around that age. What subjects does he like? I have some on my read list he may like but it all depends on what he wants to read to start with and what you want him to stay away from. The non romance/chick lit books that I read tend to not have the smut, which I generally skim over in the others anyway because it's written with the most ridiculous words and I don't need to read descriptions of it. Some of the historical fiction books I read are more about the time and the job that's being done but will still have a tiny bit of romance but it's nowhere near the focus, though they tend to be books about women during the war or during x but were really good. I'm sure others will have some ideas too once we know more of what you're both looking for :) I guarantee he's not interested in the book I'm reading now about the court and staff of Queen Victoria :rotfl2::coffee:

I read Jurassic Park for high school sophomore english, it was way more relevant in 1995 :) Movie books might be good or don't laugh, I like the Richard Castle books and am super excited that a new one is out even though the show is done. Just stay far away from A Simple Favor, omg the book freaked me out enough there's no way I can watch the movie despite Anna and Blake being favorites.
Sorry if I’ve already mentioned this to you, but have you tried Goodreads? They have a lot of lists to look up different genres and you can ask questions on each book’s “page” as to whether it will be appropriate for your child.
Thanks! Most of what he has been reading is in the 700-800 range like Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Gordon Korman books, Gamer’s Army (he just finished reading it) etc but he needs something in the 1200-1300 range like Great Expectations. I found an AP English Comp list that we are going through. Besides the mention of Goodreads here, I’ve used it since I typically stick to the same authors all of the time. I’ll look into it. Right now we are leaning towards The Radioactive Boy Scout. I think it is just the newness of having to find something in the higher range since he has been getting books in his age range rather than worrying about the reading level. Especially since he is a very reluctant reader.

Q1- P1 CSP and the Amex Bonvoy Buisness
P2 None
Q2- P1 CF maybe on of the Chase Business cards (depends on where we are with meeting MSR's for P2 cards)
P2-CSR for the travel credits or support link from me for CSP Not sure which route I want to take. Well I would like to get him the CSR but he is not fond of the AF even with the benefits. This may be a ask for forgiveness instead of permission situation. :love2:

Q1: CIC and Arrival Plus for me, plus upgrade to Bonvoy Brilliant, CIP 2 for DH, and AA Biz for both of us
Q2: For sure plan to churn DHs Arrival Plus (I think AF posts today). I am 3/24 with an additional 3 Chase biz cards, last two cards being CIC 1/19 and CIP 10/18 so maybe I will try for CIP 2?

We went with three new cards in this quarter! I got the Chase Hyatt card with the 60,000 points with MSR over 6 months offer. DH got a new Bonvoy Biz and a Citi AA Biz. We also got DH a CSP on 12/26 so didn't start spending on the card until this quarter. I'm planning to finish off the quarter with an app for CIP #2 for DH today after closing his CIP #1 earlier this month.

What do I plan to get next? Well, that's where I need your advice...

DH and I need 1) GE for both of us, 2) preferably not a $450+ AF, and 3) more AA miles or transferability to AA miles would be nice (but not required).

So here's what I'm thinking based on looking up some options...

1) Capital One Venture

Upsides: seems easy enough to use their points from what I've read from others. Low AF (none for the first year?). Don't know if they have transferability anywhere else, but I could use them to erase some purchases for sure.

Downsides: pulls all three credit bureaus. I'm an AU on my mom's Quicksilver card (don't know if that matters).

2) Bank of America Premium Rewards

Upsides: BoA is our main bank, I have one CC with them (Americard? My first CC) and DH has 2 (some cash back card and an old travel rewards card). I suspect it would be easy for us to get since we're longtime BoA customers.

Downsides: It's BoA. Transferability?

3) Bonvoy Brilliance or CSR

Upsides: $300 in credits on each one, though I'm not sure how I would use up the Marriott credits if it's not just money back from booking Marriott stays in cash. Bonvoy has transferability to AA (very helpful). Free night reward with Bonvoy. Could time this card to either use a free night in Japan next year or to have Diamond status when we go. CSR at 1.5x, could be useful for Japan bookings for next year?

Downsides: $450 AFs. I would need to PC my CFU to CSR since I'm not eligible for the bonus. Does PCing restart my 48 month clock for getting another Sapphire bonus? I have Marriott Biz and Bonvoy Biz, DH just got a Bonvoy Biz, but I don't think those interfere with this card.

Thoughts? Seriously, would love to hear some different pros and cons from you guys!! I'm even thinking if one of us did CSR or Brilliance, the other could do one of the lower fee cards.
