We are having no luck finding anything of interest for DS to read that matches his lexcile score. He basically needs 12th grade-college level books. Pretty sure most of it is far too mature for my 12 year old, no matter how terrific his reading ability is.

Might be too much like school but what about historical fiction? Or even non fiction? I started reading books about baseball and auto/biographies around that age. What subjects does he like? I have some on my read list he may like but it all depends on what he wants to read to start with and what you want him to stay away from. The non romance/chick lit books that I read tend to not have the smut, which I generally skim over in the others anyway because it's written with the most ridiculous words and I don't need to read descriptions of it. Some of the historical fiction books I read are more about the time and the job that's being done but will still have a tiny bit of romance but it's nowhere near the focus, though they tend to be books about women during the war or during x but were really good. I'm sure others will have some ideas too once we know more of what you're both looking for :) I guarantee he's not interested in the book I'm reading now about the court and staff of Queen Victoria :rotfl2::coffee:

I read Jurassic Park for high school sophomore english, it was way more relevant in 1995 :) Movie books might be good or don't laugh, I like the Richard Castle books and am super excited that a new one is out even though the show is done. Just stay far away from A Simple Favor, omg the book freaked me out enough there's no way I can watch the movie despite Anna and Blake being favorites.

Current drama on r/churning is a fight between people that want folks to use discretion on discussing multiple CIPs (ie don’t plaster it everywhere, have TPG write a blog post and get it shutdown) vs. those that think it’s funny to plaster it everywhere and make people angry...

I share this here because this loophole may not last forever. If you’re thinking about a 2nd CIP and you’re in a safe application window you might want to pull that trigger soon.

I’ve been worried about that. I think I might pull that trigger for DH tomorrow. Last card (with Chase) was CSP on 12/26.

Well Dosh is efficient! I emailed them yesterday for my missing Sam’s Club new membership offer and I just got a cha’ing email from them for my missing $20. Now have doubled my $45 membership fee.

I also emailed Marriott about my missing 35k cert. It is ridiculous that is over 10 weeks since my anniversary date. I am going to apply it to our Clearwater Sheraton stay in June so we’ll only need to use points for 2 nights instead.

Just booked the Fairfield in Hershey since it is opening weekend next weekend and the weather will be in the 60s so bareable to go to the park for a bit. Plus I get double the night credit for some offer I received. Looking forward to our weekend getaway.

Sorry if I’ve already mentioned this to you, but have you tried Goodreads? They have a lot of lists to look up different genres and you can ask questions on each book’s “page” as to whether it will be appropriate for your child.

Interested to know what this is!

It's from 2012, not that it being older probably makes a difference :) It's called Serving Victoria - Life in the Royal Household by Kate Hubbard. Mom and I watch Victoria on PBS and are really hoping it gets renewed for another season. I looked for it after the season because we were talking about stuff and I was curious.

This too and you can find a few of us on there too :)

Thanks!! I love books about that sort of stuff. I’m actually reading a book by the head usher at the White House right now who served from Roosevelt through Nixon. Really interesting stuff.

That would be interesting. I read one about WH cooks last year. I have The Gown by Jennifer Robson about QEII's wedding to Prince Phillip and her gown. It seems interesting.

Just put that on my list as well. The WH one is called Upstairs at the White House. I’m only about 1/3 of the way in, but I like hearing about the personalities of the different first families and how the White House runs.

i highly recommend u go to china with a tour guide if u dont look asian. china ppl can sometimes be super racist. Other than that, they mostly leave u alone and u dont see much politics going on publicly.
do highly recommend Xi'an, Bejing, Gulling and shanghai. ive been to them all.
china is a place i do really want to go back to.

another idea is Taiwan, although not a whole lot to see compared to China but great foods! everyone ive talk to that went to Taiwan has said they want to go back!
As a white person who spent a couple weeks in China, I didn’t find people as racist as curious. We were seen as an oddity. We were in Beijing, Wuhan, Guangzhou and Hong Kong and I think Wuhan sees the fewest tourists. People in our group were stopped and asked for pictures, especially the blond ones. At one point we were surrounded by Chinese people asking about our son. Our Chinese guide explained but a police officer also came up as he noticed the crowd. He asked what was going on, deemed it a non issue (everyone was calm but asking questions) and moved on. I didn’t get the feeling that people were racist or hostile although I don’t know exactly what was said.

Has anyone that has gotten the AA match letter actually seen the points yet? And if so had you already gotten the 40?

I’m still waiting for my $100 credit on my Delta AmEx for my Delta purchase. It’s been 2 weeks. Last time it credited the next day.
I think a bunch of us here have seen the match post. I got the match on my card from a few months the ago (and got my 40k too) and my wife got her match recently too. It posts when your statement closes.

Road trip weekend and staying at Marriott Springhill Suites (thanks Amex Lux travel credit). I can’t remember who posted one day this week about the new beds, but this is a 2 queen suite with the fancy sofa in the picture of the sofa with the trundle underneath. My oldest slept on sofa part last night and said it was hard, but she also got it to herself and did not have to share it with her sister so that’s a win. I am thinking that this new trundle bed design must be new to the recently built Springhill Suites.

Good thing we are going home tomorrow. I need to get home to secure internet so I can apply for another CIP for DH!

I’m on goodreads. I didn’t know some of you guys are on there too. I absolutely love goodreads. I rate every book I read otherwise I’ll forget if I’ve read a book before

This is typical for pottery barn kids. My mom ordered my daughter a pbk suitcase for Christmas on Black Friday. It arrived January 29th.

Luckily she’s 1 and didn’t really know the difference. It’s not like she knew she was missing a present
Why does it happen so often? They need to get their stuff together. I planned to have the bag for my trip. I’m probably just gonna have to cancel so I have time to find a new bag.

I've bought and checked out from the the library books I've read before so I've been on goodreads for a long time. I use the app on my phone to scan books I'm not sure of and half the time I've already read it which is kind of sad. It only happens with fiction books though but a lot of them start to sound the same too.

Nobody good I guess. Lol. I was leading our family bracket all through round 1 and 2. Then apparently my luck ran out. I picked LSU, Michigan, Tennessee and North Carolina.
Well I had Gonzaga winning and they lost tonight. I’m still ahead of Dh but to have two number 1 seeds out already stinks. I still have Virginia and duke but only Virginia in the final game

@SouthFayetteFan with the talk of goodreads tonight maybe there should be a section on our reddit that doesn't have links but lets people put on if they are on there their username for goodreads or twitter etc. Both have usernames so it wouldn't be posting actual names unless that's what their username was. If you don't want others to find you elsewhere you don't have to do it. And by not having links I would think it would be easy to a new thread when they need to be updated correct?

Just a thought if others are interested since books and movies (not that there's a similar movie site but there should be) come up on here often enough.

Do you not record when you finish reading them? That’s what I do so I can remember. All of my books I read are young adult fiction and usually have the same kind of theme so they do get repetitive. I’ve read books before where I swore I’d read it before but I’d keep reading and realize I really hadn’t read it.
