@SouthFayetteFan with the talk of goodreads tonight maybe there should be a section on our reddit that doesn't have links but lets people put on if they are on there their username for goodreads or twitter etc. Both have usernames so it wouldn't be posting actual names unless that's what their username was. If you don't want others to find you elsewhere you don't have to do it. And by not having links I would think it would be easy to a new thread when they need to be updated correct?

Just a thought if others are interested since books and movies (not that there's a similar movie site but there should be) come up on here often enough.
I would love this! I like seeing what other people are reading

That’s a really neat idea! I’ll create a thread later tonight for that! :)

Fun Sunday Topic...
So I know it’s not Sunday for 10 more minutes lol...but somebody on r/churning posted this topic and I thought it could be fun for us on a Sunday (which is typically slower around here):
  • As we approach the end of Q1 what cards did you get in the 1st 3 months of the year?
  • And an added question for our group: what cards do you anticipate getting in the next 3 months?

Do you not record when you finish reading them? That’s what I do so I can remember. All of my books I read are young adult fiction and usually have the same kind of theme so they do get repetitive. I’ve read books before where I swore I’d read it before but I’d keep reading and realize I really hadn’t read it.

I do record them and that's why when I'm not sure I've read it I scan it so I can see if it's on my read, want to read or no list at all. I rarely buy books and when I bought one I'd already read it was well before goodreads was around. The library one wasn't that long ago but I hadn't read the book yet it was in my too read pile. My library system has a thing called Choice Reads, they are books the library picks to put on display and they are put into the system as choice reads instead of their title. I get most of my books from here because it's generally newer books but it also means when I look at my list of books checked out it's a bunch of barcode #'s with choice reads next to it so I don't have a way of seeing what I've actually got checked out. I don't put a book I've checked out into goodreads until I've read it because every once in awhile I'll check one out that is awful and I don't read more than a chapter or two.

1) We have gotten 5 cards in the first 3 months...(what happened to me being a slow churner, LOL!). P2 got a 1st Citi AA Biz, P1 got a 2nd Citi AA Biz (the 1st was in late Dec) and we each got a Barclay Biz Aviator. P2 also got a CIU.

2) In Q2 we will slow down slightly and I have the following cards targeted: P1 CIP (finally under 5/24); P2 CIP#2; P2 Citi AA Biz #2.

Road trip weekend and staying at Marriott Springhill Suites (thanks Amex Lux travel credit). I can’t remember who posted one day this week about the new beds, but this is a 2 queen suite with the fancy sofa in the picture of the sofa with the trundle underneath. My oldest slept on sofa part last night and said it was hard, but she also got it to herself and did not have to share it with her sister so that’s a win. I am thinking that this new trundle bed design must be new to the recently built Springhill Suites.

Good thing we are going home tomorrow. I need to get home to secure internet so I can apply for another CIP for DH!

That was me! Thanks for the feedback, I can let my boys know so we can decide what to do. We'll probably have an air mattress of some sort as well anyway.

I have it but I am also LOL/24. You probably don't see it recommended due to the fact that the points are not as valuable as variable points that can transfer to an airline in addition to not having a great sign up bonus.

I wouldn't let annual fees scare you or the spouse away. 99% of the time the sign up bonus will far outweigh the fee for the first year at least. You can always cancel after the first year is out if the on going benefits do not outweigh the fee for you.

CSP is a $95 AF but you get $750 worth of bonus points at a minimum. Transferred to an airline. I can make those points worth thousands and have done that several times. Is there any reason to not hand Chase $95 and get $750 in return?

That's just one example but I can go on and on for most cards and the AFs.

Personally, I would still go the normal Chase route to start and then see what path you want to take after you are past 5/24. Having a stable of Chase UR cards that allow you to maximize bonus categories will almost always be far more lucrative than a straight cash back travel card. You will earn at a faster rate and be able to redeem for a greater value.

I'm sorry to be such a pain and you can always tell me to scram but should we go for the sapphire premium or reserve if I plan to cruise this year and next? I know the reserve has a much higher yearly cost but it does have the $300 travel credit and then the points are worth more right? Do spouses usually share an account or can we each get one to double the bonus points?

This thread has been created on DISchurners and can be found here:

Thanks @afan for the great idea! Nobody is required to post anything there, and you're welcome to share as much or as little as you'd like about your online presence.

I have gotten 3 citi Biz cards between P1/p2. Three citi AA personal cards. Delta Amex personal and the ebates card lol

I haven’t planned my next steps yet. I want to get 4 more citi personal cards, 2 citi Biz cards between SO and I. Then I’ll probabut move on to some smaller cashback cards. Wells Fargo, PNC, BMO.

Dh and I have only gotten the capital one venture for Q1. We slowed way down since last year.

I’m thinking we will go for our second CIPs next (while that’s still an option) but we will most likely wait until we know what’s going on with dh’s work situation. He has two phone interviews Monday (one for Denver and one for Alpharetta). They aren’t with the same company either. He’s just been applying to basically everything.

Oh okay that makes more sense. I was reading a lot last month but now that I started Gilmore girls my reading has slowed way down. I’m already on season 4

Did you do an EIN citi Biz? Trying to figure out how you navigated the 1/90 day restriction...any tricks there I'm not thinking of?

Obviously we already know that PNC CC funding is dead - but I can confirm it via a friend now too and can share an insider tidbit...

PNC has known they had a CC funding issue for over a year. Believe it or not, it took them 11+ months to shut it down. I have a real life churner friend who works in operations at PNC (their headquarters are here in Pittsburgh) and he told me they were looking at it a year ago. So for those that enjoyed the ride - just know that it could've been shut down far sooner.

Also for those wondering, I do not work at PNC, haha! They are terrible in my segment so I wouldn't even consider working there in the business banking revenue space. :)

Slowing way, way down over here:
Q1 - Chase Hyatt and CIP
Q2 - P2 will probably apply for a CIC (or maybe a CIP #2) once he drops to 4/24

My personal preference is the CSR since I can use the $300 travel credit easily and it has better travel insurance as well as a better redemption on URs. Don't share the account and get 2 cards with the one application. If you both apply for your own car you'll get double the points. Some people prefer the CSP for the lower AF.

Wow! That was quick! You're going be done with it pretty soon!

I wouldn’t be lying if I said I skip through a lot of it. Majority of the show is boring to me but I do like Rory’s relationships.

We did 10 in Q1. I had 6 (CIC + AmEx run of Gold Biz, Plat Biz, Hilton Biz, Bonvoy Biz, and personal Plat). P2 had 4 (CIP, AmEx Rose Gold, Hilton Biz, Bonvoy Biz).

Slowing waaaay down in Q2, lol. Planned is only CIP #3 in June for P2 if still possible. I was thinking Bonvoy Brilliant and Hilton Aspire too, taking him to 4/24 (would have use of both resort credits). But he's expressing ambivalence again ("so many cards"), so think I'll hold off. A lot easier to get him on board for the CIP - $1000 cash/$1500 travel for $95 AF, doesn't even get on your CR, who can say no to that?

Definitely get your own cards. Points are transferable within the same household and easy to do online. Unless you're going to double dip the $300 travel credit on 1 annual fee, then only one of you needs the Chase Sapphire Reserve (CSR). The other can get the Sapphire Preferred (CSP). That would be 110,000 URs, worth $1650 for travel through the Chase portal once you get all the points on the CSR. Not sure if that would be enough for the cruise you want?

If you're willing to do business cards, the bonus is more lucrative. Many people here have a "business" - selling things on eBay, babysitting, tutoring, etc. The Chase Ink Preferred (CIP) is 80,000 URs with $95 annual fee. Once you get it, you can then refer your DH for a 20,000 referral bonus. So 2 CIPs for the both of you would be 180,000 URs. Add to the CSR/CSP bonuses, would be worth $4350 through the portal once transferred to the CSR. That's maybe enough for a cruise (DCL not available through the portal though).

OMG! I know you guys won't remember but when safeway was running that gift card special a while back I bought gift cards which my husband promptly lost (to the tune of $200). I just found them! Yay!!!!!!
