Received an interesting letter from Amex today. It was confirming that DH had been approved for Bonvoy Biz. The letter states:

"When determining your credit limit on your new card, we took all of your existing card accounts with us into consideration, including your past spending on these accounts. We noticed that you also have the Gold Delta Skymiles credit card with us and we have transferred some of the available credit from your Gold Delta card to your Marriott Bonvoy Business card to ensure your new card has a credit limit that will meet your needs."

I can't recall what DH's credit limit on his Delta card was before, but it's now 6k. He's had the card since 2012. Definitely very intermittent spend on it there for a long time, but I've put more spend on it in the last year or so. They gave us 10k on the Bonvoy Biz.

I'm not sure what this letter is supposed to mean, but I found it odd.

I got an email from Amex offering an upgrade to the preferred blue cash card. It's the $95 yearly fee one. I have no idea how to tell if my spend is worth the yearly fee given the upgraded %s. But they are offering $250 to upgrade.

I don't think that type of letter is unusual. I think its Amex's way of avoiding a denial for overall credit lines and rejiggering at their initiative. Not saying I agree with their approach, but I'm pretty sure I received one of these letters after getting approved for the BBP, and DH might have also.

Behind again, but I want to post now and give my support to everyone. All the fires, car issues, health issues are just awful. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

So most days on the Dis, I don’t go outside this thread. I’ve ventured to the cruise board and read there but don’t post much because there are a few very snarky people there. So I hang here more. But I just ventured out looking for a little more info on Flower and Garden since we’ll be there soon (4 days!) and found two very relevant current threads. The first about having a Landry’s Card and not needing an ADR for Yak&Yeti. Never been there and no ADRs available so a reported 5 minutes wait without an ADR, I’m in. Secondly a Flower and Garden thread which mentioned an app with menus and wishlists, etc. Already downloaded and off to play with it (instead of packing or sleeping as I should be.)

Yes it's wonderful. We had an ADR, but once they saw the Landry's card they whisked us to a nice table (ahead of people with ADRs waiting in the lobby). Love Y&Y, too!

Churning Shower Thought: Yes - from the series of posts you love, that leave you wanting more...comes another SouthFayetteFan churning shower thought:

NEW 60,000 Point Chase Sapphire Preferred Offer:
  • There are multiple reports of Chase matching the 60k offer to folks who signed up for the 50k offer with NO mention of charging the Annual Fee (these DPs are on r/churning AND DoC's post)
  • IF you have a spouse that can refer you - DO THAT and request a match! You get 10k for the referral + 50k for the bonus w/ no AF. If you get the match that's another 10k for a total of 70k!
  • IF you would just be using a DISchurner support link...you have a decision to make. You could just take the 60k public offer and pay the AF and come out slightly ahead. OR you could use a DISchurner link, get the 50k with no AF, and attempt for a match. 60k with no AF would be a real win there ($100-$150 depending on how you value URs) BUT there's a risk you get no match and you come out $5 behind in cash or $30-$55 behind if you value URs at 1.25-1.5cpp.
  • There isn't really a wrong decision here, it just comes down to risk/reward. I just wanted to present some options for those currently weighing their CSP options.
Summary:
1) If you're going for a CSP via a spouse referral - you have a golden opportunity to potentially score 10k extra points
2) If you're going for a CSP without a spouse referral, weigh your options. Potential gain of $100-$150 vs. coming up short by $5-$55.

Thanks for the info. I've had my eyes on a CSP, but went for the CIP first. Glad I waited, since I'll keep this in mind when we are ready for a new card.

Oh my word!! I'm sorry about your aunt. I volunteered with hospice, and loved it. Met the loveliest people. And I'm glad your cousins are okay!

My DD has been volunteering at a hospice facility for the last 2 years. I would have thought it would be a difficult experience, but she says she is really happy she chose to do it.

Interesting. I didn't get one before my second Amex last year. I just thought it was odd that they mentioned how much he spent on the other card. Just seems like Amex wants to be difficult lately.

I have those letters for my last 3 Amex apps. Only once have I felt the need to call them and have them re-allocate

I am considering my next steps and here are my thoughts:
  • Apply for AMEX Delta Gold Business for sign up bonus before it expires (can I refer myself for this from the AMEX Delta Plat?)
  • Apply for CIP 05/2019 when I am 4/24.
  • After?
-Other Chase cards?
-Concentrate on AMEX for the MR points to be used for flights?
-Consider cash back cards to offset tour group costs?
I appreciate any input. I have learned a lot from y’all so far and value your experience.

Agree with @palhockeymomof2 that you have a good solid plan.

I would caution you to consider HOW you'll use whatever currency you'll earn. Delta Skymiles from the Delta Gold Biz seems pretty intuitive (lucky you flying from DTW!) but some others might not be. Then again, we're a pretty chatty and helpful bunch and we'll give you all sort of opinions on how to use URs/CTPs/cash:)

Cash back is also a valuable type of card to have in your arsenal. It will take up a /24 spot but the Arrival + is a great travel eraser AND has chip and PIN that can be used in train stations, kiosks, etc in Europe.

In the future, I'd consider amex MR earning biz cards (Blue Business Plus is a good no AF one with 2x MRs on everything), the Barclaycard Arrival + and/or another CIP.

Please don't let traveling solo keep you from doing it! I've been doing it for years and it gets more comfortable every time I do! River cruises are wonderful and Germany is beautiful:)

I took that upgrade late last year and hammered that 6% with gift cards to help slow my roll with other issuers. It’s a decent offer. If you have never had a BCP though, taking an upgrade offer means you can’t earn the signup bonus on that card for applying in the future.

Chase Shutdown Report in today’s r/churning Discussion Thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/b3ao12/discussion_thread_march_20_2019/eiyjb7n/

I don’t have a full list of their cards - here’s what I know:
  • Went for a MDD at 4/24
  • Has gotten 3 biz cards and the MDD since November
Basically a reminder that velocity is still important. Nobody here seems to be pushing the envelope, but when we advise waiting 2 or 3 months between cards, it is to protect against this. It’s easy to get caught up in excitement and get 5 cards in 3 months in this game...but it’s a pretty terrible idea! Don’t try to make up for “time lost” in this game by running too fast! You can always use those points on your NEXT trip :)

Good timing for me, I just cancelled my CSP that I had for over 4 years yesterday with the intention of DH referring me for a new one.

He still has not received the CIP referral email I sent him on Saturday, should I resend do you think?
Why not just grab the link from the app or the website? I wouldn’t use those emails, they take forever. :)

We are staying April vacation week so I will report back! Location is close to grand central and breakfast is included so I have high hopes. My neighbor stays at this hotel all the time, he gave it a great review. Also if you are thinking of any shows the UR portal has a bunch at really good prices! You can’t pick your exact seat so I’ll report back on that also. We got Lion King tix
Oh awesome! Thanks, looking forward to hearing your review!

YIKES. Uh yeah, I would expect a shutdown in that scenario.

Does anyone know how quickly their Citi AA Biz came? I called and tried to expedite it but no go. I've got camps to pay that I'd like to use against the MSR.

I don't have business EIN.........I only sell my unwanted stuff, and volume is not many at all........ I don't know how that can be counted as business to open business credit card?

I can put on decent amount on first 3 months, I can put most of my bill payment and summer child care expenses, etc.
You do not need an EIN! You can apply under your SN. I current have 3 bussiness card with a 4th that was approved this week and only sold a couple items on eBay!

Sorry I was late in the game and saw that other have already said this!

Let me know if you gets this resolved. Hyatt said they would open a case. Chase kinda dropped the ball on my phone calls.

I was worried about my Hyatt points posting, and they took a while to post, but now they are there. I hope it gets resolved for you. I don't have the exact dates, but I know didn't get them within a week of meeting the MSR.
