I got an email today from Hilton honors. It says I can stay in Las Vegas or Orlando for 4 days/3 nights for $199. I clicked more info and looked but it just has a purchase button and with tax it’s $223. It didn’t have me pick a hotel or have dates. Seems strange to me. I’ll include a screenshot of what it looks like

Looking at my e-mail, looks like you just have to buy it by then. You have 12 months to use it. Not too sure what happens if they have no dates that work for you. I think the bigger issue is if you want to sit through a sales presentation. Don't know how high pressure the Hilton one is. Just don't get sucked into buying one.

Been through a few when I was younger for the free stuff. Then swore off of them, lol.

I've gotten them for IHG as well but always been too nervous to accept it.

Our elementary school (Independence) has only been open for two full years so there might not be much info on it, but it earned an A rating both years. My son isn't in school yet so I haven't investigated too much. I know Whispering Oaks, which is nearby, is the highest rated elementary in the county.

I didn't like the Universal area because it was just too congested, too many tourists. Everything just seemed older and not well kept. Just a lot of chain restaurants and stores and not a lot of community.
That could definitely be why. I’ll look at those areas and see if we find any houses.

Would doctor Phillips be included in that touristy area? The area right by dh’s work looks pretty crappy. Bad schools and houses

Dh got his flight details today for his interview!! It’s gonna be a little rough for him because our band plays until 1 am and we have a 2 1/2 hour drive home. Then his flight leaves out of a different city an hour away at 12 pm. Luckily it’s a small airport and his interview isn’t until the next day. He won’t get back home until the next day at 11 pm or later

How exciting! Best of luck to him with the interview!

How do you typically handle utility bill prepayments? Just pay a set amount like $500 or estimate a few months worth?

It might depend on what you're utility will accept. Verizon will only allow a $500 credit on your account, so when we were maxing out that category we put the $500 on and we add payments as we used up some. If you don't have a cap I'd probably estimate how ever many months worth you'd be comfortable in your budget prepaying. For our small bills I'd probably be ok paying a years worth since that's still only a few hundred dollars. Our larger bills we'd stick with 6 months or less, just as a personal preference for how I like to see our savings account :)

If I have a negative balance on a card, like from my CSR AF being refunded, can I SM Chase to move it to another card? I feel like someone told me this here at one time.
I believe you can or have them send you a check. If if sits for a few months they just send a check - just happened with me with Cap One

$1k each and all you had to do was take a later flight that night?

I still have regrets for not taking a voluntary bump on a United flight last June. I was running on 3 hours of sleep and wanted to get home. Plus DH would have had to change around all of his plans to get me. But they were offering a $1,200 voucher! I so should have done it.

I have my checking account with CO right now and like them but really get nothing for having it. Chase is offering a $600 bonus if you open both a checking and savings account in our area. I think I have to keep $15K in them combined. I usually don't like checking account bonuses because they are taxed but it would probably be around $400 after taxes, so I am thinking of going for it. My question, I am going to apply for the CIP in May. Would this help my chances of getting the cc, if I bank with Chase?

It doesn't outright improve CC chances since they're still separate units within Chase, but sometimes you can get preapproved offers that bypass the 5/24 rule. So if you're normally locked out of Chase due to that, then yes, it could help you get one potentially. Otherwise it doesn't seem to make a difference in approval odds.

If you have the same $600 offer that's out online now (https://www.doctorofcredit.com/chase-600-checking-savings-bonus/) then you'd get $300 for opening the checking account and having a direct deposit of any amount (at least $1 though) within 60 days. You'd get $200 for opening the savings account and depositing 15k and holding it there for 90 days. You'd have to have at least 15k in that account for the 90 days so it's not a combined balance between the two accounts. After the bonus posts you could move it out. If earn both bonuses then you get another $100 on top for doing them at the same time. It's a good offer if you have 15k to park, we did it last year for just the $500 (it was before they started giving the extra $100 for completing both).

I don’t think we would have taken it if we had young kids waiting at home. Youngest flew home for spring break yesterday, ds picked her up at the airport, fed her, and drove her to older dd’s apartment for the night. She’s home by herself now but is fine with us getting home at 1:30am. Dh will work from home tomorrow and my first appointment is at 10am :)

Dr. Phillips is pretty nice. It's a bit built up, but I had a coworker who lived there on a pretty big piece of land so I guess it has a lot of variety haha. I used to stop at run errands in that area on my way home from work when I worked off Sand Lake.

that airline was notoriously bad record. i think half the pilots failed some certification test they did afterwards... on one accident, they turned off the wrong engine... :|

This new crash however, *A airline, top in Africa... a whole different breed.

It's probably just as well that I didn't know all of this at the time!

I did think it was interesting that air travel seemed to be the primary way for people to get from one of major cities in Taiwan to another -- from what I understand, it is typical to just show up at the airport a bit before the flight that you want and purchase your ticket on the spot, for the same price as you could have purchase did in advance.
