This is related to support clicks only. Nothing related to signup bonuses or regular spend.Wait, you can get a 1099 for credit card points?

1099s...AMEX...and Hilton...gah!
I'm going to vent for a minute so feel free to ignore this lol
The really sad part about this is that because of this glitch I got 8 support clicks that could've gone to somebody else. That's 120k-160k Hilton points depending on what offer they were running!! Luckily I think MOST of those clicks were from r/churning so it didn't hurt folks here.
- In 2018 my wife received 30,000 Hilton points from support clicks right away from r/churning in January. We then NEVER received another Hilton point despite having NUMEROUS folks on r/churning tell me they used my link. Somebody here even used my link and again no points - I figured it was a glitch or something and let it go (probably a mistake)
- Late Jan 2019 I receive a 1099 from AMEX showing I received 82,090 Hilton points for $550 - that's funny...I only got 30,000
- I'm about to list a bunch of long calls I made...This is my Wife's account so this is HOURS of Mrs. SouthFayetteFan voice...
- 2/4/19 - I (wife) call Hilton to VERIFY the 30,000 points in my records (to make sure I'm not missing something) and they absolutely verify the figure
- 2/4/19 - I (wife) call AMEX, explain the issue. The rep has no clue what I'm talking about or that they even issue 1099s. She is able to confirm that I show 14 support clicks in 2018. 14???? Where are my points!! I finally convince them to open up a case...I will hear back in 24-48 hours...never hear back
- 2/18/19 - I (wife) call AMEX again - very upset since I never heard back. They have no idea why nobody got back with me. Give them ALL the info again...It may take a couple weeks to hear back (ok so not 24-48 anymore??) and they could issue a revised 1099 then - GREAT, I'm happy!
- 3/8/19 - Informed delivery shows two 1099s coming from AMEX...yay - hopefully resolved. Open the 1099s...they are the SAME FREAKIN $550 from before
- 3/8/19 - I (wife) call AMEX again - get a MARVELOUS agent who not only understands the issue but tells me that they transferred 15,000 points on 1/12 (yup I can verify those posted 1 day later; transferred 15,000 points on 1/19 (yup I can verify those posted 1 day later); transferred 30,000 and 22,090 points on 1/21 - Ummmmm WHAT? Those never posted...it's exactly 52,090 points...THE AMOUNT I KEEP ASKING FOR...
Why couldn't any of the other idiot reps give me this detail A MONTH AGO!!!!!
Ok so this is a Hilton issue...
- 3/8/19 - I (wife) call Hilton - try to explain the issue to the agent and oh my, she starts arguing with me that points aren't taxable. Cue my Ron Swanson Meme - I KNOW MORE THAN YOU!!! I finally get her to understand she has filed a case for my missing 52,090 points.
WHAT A FREAKIN' MESS!!! At this point I'm supposed to receive my 52,090 Hilton points once they resolve the issue on their end. And I guess I do owe taxes then on the points...I asked them to PLEASE resolve this by the end of the month because I don't really want to pull the trigger on the taxes until I know they posted.
EDIT 1: I owe @amalone1013 a lot of royalties
EDIT 2: I'm losing my voice because talking in my high voice for 2 hours really takes it's toll on me!!

I take the be SUPER nice approach. I rarely will resort to anger as I think I get a lot more sympathy if I sound like a very disappointed loyal customer. I did have both agents comment on how knowledgeable I was today though. I'm like "Yes I know my stuff, I've done my research", LOL!
If you don’t need the CP until 2020...I’d suggest waiting until the end of the year, beginning of next year to get the SW cards and have all the RR points post in 2020...so you’d have the CP for the rest of 2020 and all of 2021
Since people have had success going for another CIP with EIN or just SS...maybe have P2 refer P1 for a 2nd CIP
Or have P1 apply for the CIU or CIU..both have the same SUB 50k URs after a $3k MSR
LOL - a good point. Luckily AMEX gave the points to Hilton in 2018 so that part is done. It's just Hilton who sat on them so no tax event there! But if the points are transferred to you THIS year, won't they have to be on 2019 taxes?![]()
I’ll have to look up who that is but I’m glad your ds said it’s niceHaven’t driven through there...just asked DS...he said it’s really nice....there are lots of places in Orlando named after Dr Phillips
If I just got my CIP in 8/18 - I wonder if they would approve that? And if denied, would that hurt my chances of getting the CIC or CIU?
I'm also thinking of doing my SW DD later this year, and having P2 do his late this year, so we would have 2 CPs for 2020 - anyone have thoughts on that?
Looks like doctor Phillips (weird name for a town) is closer than Windermere
It would be no more sadly. It had to end sometime with Dh and I wanting a family anywayWhat will happen to the band?
I could use some advise.
My wife and I will be spending the next 4 years saving up for a Mediterranean cruise for our 35th wedding anniversary. My plan is to buy a Disney gift card every month, which will come pretty close to paying for the cruise.
I'm thinking that it would be wise to use a new, dedicated credit card to buy these Disney gift cards each month. What I'd like to do is get a credit card that would accumulate miles with an airline, such as United (for international travel). The credit card would be used ONLY to buy a Disney gift card each month. When the credit card bill arrives, it would be paid off each month.
I'll confess that I've never participated in a program where air miles are accumulated, so I know absolutely nothing about it. But if I can use a credit card that would help offset the air fare to and from Europe, I would be foolish not to try.
So, credit card gurus, which credit cards do you recommend we investigate to accumulate as many air miles as possible over the next, four years?
I truly appreciate the experience and advice of all those willing to proverbally hold my hand through this.
This is my timeline for DH..6/18..CIP with SS....1/19..2nd CIP with EIN....we always reduce Chase credit limits to about 30% of household income before applying for a new card.
If you got a new card now....any of the business cards......there would be plenty of time inbetween the SW applications at the end of the year
Why is that trouble?
Added - https://www.reddit.com/r/DISchurners/comments/ai6lq0/dischurners_walt_disney_world_tips/ei3p02y/ I did a brief intro but figured you could put the meat of this comment there so people know where it came fromAltitude Reserve for booking Disney hotels... US Bank's Altitude Reserve wasn't too useful for this feature before but I think sometime back they modified the travel portal to allow for points + cash bookings. I played around with it for the first time today and I'm seeing the 1.5 redemption rate for Disney hotels and I can pay the rest of the booking in cash. They are powered by Connexions so it's very similar to how Chase used to operate. I haven't called to find out if they have a similar cruise/tours set up, no idea there. I didn't see Disney World tickets, I did see Universal tickets at 1.5 rate under travel -> activities for 2 days or more.
AR can be one of the more difficult cards to get as no one is quite sure what makes US Bank tick. You need to be a client of US Bank & it can be hard to get a foot in the door if you aren't in their "geographical footprint". I ended up here because I opened an account summer before last for a bank bonus. 6 months later this card popped up in my pre-approved cards so I rolled the dice and applied and was approved, I think at the time I was around 8/24. Pre-approvals are NOT guarantees of approval but when I called recon a few days after applying for the card he specifically mentioned "oh I see you're pre-approved" so it might help a bit (my income is definitely on the low side for this card).
With a $400 AF, $325 in travel credits that you can double dip by hitting before canceling and 50,000 points for $4500 spend this could end up netting someone $1k if the points are redeemed towards travel.
DO NOT MS THIS CARD. DO NOT EVEN BUY GIFT CARDS WITH THIS CARD. US BANK HAS NO MERCY. And I suspect they have a very long memory as they emphasize being a "relationship bank". Some people get by doing those things just fine, others bought one gift card and go shutdown. No one gets re-instated.
@SouthFayetteFan if you'll add a parent comment on our DISchurners Disney Tips I can do a little write up there as well
