I'm sure you are, but have you checked all the airports? They aren't that far apart in the grand scheme of it though I know chicago would be a bit far from the east side of MI. But when visiting family I've flown into DTW and Flint and when going to the west side Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids, even Midway and ORD. All depended on what was cheapest, also helpful that my family was about halfway between the zoo and GRR.

Oh I've looked at ALL of the airports. I just posted my options. I'm just so scared to pull the trigger. UGH.

I think I made a churning mistake this week. We applied for Barclays Arrival for DH early last week. Initially got a message that they couldn't process that card at this time and would get info in the mail. I assumed that this was going to be a refusal.
My MSR was finishing so mom applied and got instant approval.
The mail must have sat at DD house for a couple days and she brought it over last night. Barclays just wanted more info: photocopies of drivers license, SS card and utility bill. We have until 3/20 to get this information to them. This would be a total of $10,000 spend which would be more than I have attempted in the past and may be more than I can reasonably do. I'm wondering if I can just wait with husband's inquiry, pass on sending the info and apply again in a few months. Would this be a red flag for them? I have never done any MS or bank funding and maybe it is time for me to step out of my safe little box. That happy little tickle that was in my tummy last week became a scary little tickle last night  . Any thoughts other than SILLY brownhaired_girl?
Any mortgages you can pay through plastiq?

FYI, You all inspired me to use my Insta Pot tonight for steamed rice to go with the chicken (that I grabbed at Walmart). We'll see how it turns out. It's just staying warm while I wait for DH and DS to come in from clearing the drive for dinner.

I have not tried it for rice yet either. Let me know how it goes.

Is there instructions for PNC bank funding?
Sorry: tried quoting and missed the quotes.

Here's more info:
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/pnc-up-to-300-checking-bonus-no-state-restriction/

You may want to get the bonus while you're at it. The Virtual Wallet is actually 3 accounts in 1, but you can only do the CC funding once. Once you have that opened and have online access, you can then open a regular savings account for another $2000 in CC funding. Their savings interest rate is actually quite good if you're not in their footprint.

ETA: don't forget to set cash advance limit to lowest allowed.

@brownhaired_girl - this is a good idea. If not this, then I’d hit as much spend organically as you can, prepay any bills you can, maybe buy some GCs to places you frequent, buy some VGCs to use anywhere, and lastly I honestly might just consider Venmo to finish off the MSR and eat the fee. It sounds like you have an approval on your hands - I would take it vs trying again down the line. (Of course all of this assumes you have the cash to float the prepayments).

Hi Everyone,
I've been lurking here and am having a tough time keeping up with the pace, so I hope it’s okay to just jump in and ask for some opinions.

Background:
  • Roughly 4-5k spend each month, always paid in full (thank you, YNAB!)
  • Wife and I both have FICO scores above 830.
  • AmEx SPG (now, Bonvoy) since 2006. Generally our primary card over the years.
  • Chase Freedom since 2007.
  • Citi AA since 2017.
  • Citi Costco since last month.
  • My wife has a Chase Slate that we haven’t used in a few years, but is still open.
Goals:
  • Mostly, I want to make sure we are getting *something* tangible for our monthly spend. Perhaps I’ll dip my toes into aggressive churning at some point, but I want to learn my way around a bit more first.
  • We take a few road trips per year, but rarely fly anywhere. So travel rewards are great, but I’d prefer them to be flexible rather than branded.
  • Cashback is also fine, as I would probably just budget that toward our vacations.
Tentative plan:
  • Have my wife PC her Chase Slate to a CSR or CFU, and I’ll apply for the other. Then use CF for the 5% category spending, CSR for dining/travel, CostCo for CostCo and gas (unless it’s a 5% category), and CFU for everything else.

Does Chase UR seem like a reasonable fit for us, and is this a reasonable plan? Are there different cards we should be considering?

Any thoughts or feedback is greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the thread! Sounds like you're in a great spot to be getting new cards. Is the Citi AA a card that you both have your names on, i.e. is one of you primary and the other an authorized user (AU)? Same question for the Citi Costco card.

I would not recommend PCing the Slate to either of those Chase cards - you'd lose out on the signup bonus by doing so! CSR, CFU and CF are all great cards and have good signup bonuses, and you could build up quite a stash with strategic applications. And since 1UR = 1cent at the very least, you could do quite well.

And I would be remiss by not mentioning the CIP since it has the highest signup bonus of all (80K URs!) If there is anything either of you do to supplement your income (ebay, craigslist, facebook sales, you get the picture) then you can be a sole proprietor business. A lot of us here end up getting one for us, and later getting one for our spouse (and get an additional 20K UR via your own "support link"). Consider joining the Dischurner reddit thread too. You can send a PM to @Lain or @SouthFayetteFan or @Albort for them to add you. Welcome aboard!!

Since neither of you have had a Sapphire product, definitely don't PC to one. Sign up to get the bonus. You could PC your Slate to the Freedom Unlimited, maybe, actually have not idea if you can but that is the one to PC to if you can. If you want to take it slow, I think I would sign one of you up for the Sapphire Preferred(CSP). Then after a year refer P2 to the CSP. You could then PC the first CSP up to CSR or down to another Freedom to avoid the annual Fee. I am not sure your spending on dining out and travel to know if you will get your money out of the CSR over the CSP.

Hi and Welcome....
Since you want flexibility.....the Chase UR cards would be perfect for your goals....since you can meet the minimum spend .....I’d suggest since your wife has never had the CSR or the CSP..she should apply for one of those...so you get the 50K bonus URs...if you PC the slate you don’t get a bonus
The CSP has a 10k referral bonus as well...so if she gets it first ....she can then refer you for it....after the MSR....you’d have 118k URs to use or cash out
Then 2-3 months later both apply for the the CF or CFU

Since you’ve been reading this thread, you’ve probably seen us mention the Chase business cards....the CIP has the highest sign up bonus 80k....so if your interested in opening business cards....start with 2 of thoses for yourself and your wife instead of the CSR or CSP

Could open a PNC account or two... can fund each one with 2k... That would knock out 4k. If you have a P2, do two more there.... 8k done without leaving your couch :-)

The good/bad news is the last mortgage paid last year. Venmo might be a good option. I had some cash saved to purchase DH a few cows, that would have taken care of his card. I called and the sales barn and they don’t take CC. I was planning to pay ahead for the first card, and have done this regularly when I get new cards.
If I wait until closer to the 20th will that allow us more time or will MSR time period go back to application date?

DVC dues? Pay property taxes or income taxes? Use Plastiq to pay your hay guy?

MSR period begins on the day of approval, so yes, if you wait and send it in closer to the 20th that would extend your window. But make sure they receive your info by the 20th!

@wendow, I'm trying to follow the Hawaii stuff...did they have availability from your airport this morning and then it disappeared? Did that many people book flights? I just looked from my home airport but everything just says unavailable (although I'm on east coast). Just wondering what happened to you!

Property taxes are in the list but we with homestead and agricultural deductions the property taxes are only around $1800 for the year. We can pay some of DD’s bills and get reimbursed. I’m actually hoping for tax refund. We live fairly modestly but have some savings to work with.

Yes. Entire months are showing sold out now. Of course I booked my family this morning, but got distracted researching hotel points options and now can't book myself on CP! Ugh. So frustrating! SWA is not my favorite today.

OMG that is TERRIBLE!

Yes! DEN had availability to OAK and then to HNL. Great prices and all May was open. Then poof! All gone :(

What about paying the cow barn place through plastiq?
