They do offer nonstop flights from JFK but the award flights are never the nonstop flights. The award flights will have you change planes (usually at LAX) & drop you into coach for the overseas portion, every time.

That’s weird, it shows award availability when I look it up and doesn’t say anything about that. Wouldn’t it have to tell you that you’re going to change planes?

Click “continue” or whatever to see the actual flights & there it will tell you whether or not you have to change.

Oh, nice!! Sounds like you're good to go.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever checked into using a billpay service to pay your student loan? I don't have a student loan, but I use Walmart's system to pay my mortgage through billpay and am able to use vgcs for part of my payment. More details over on the dischurners site under ms. If that worked for you, it would end up being 1.49% fee on a $500 (vgc) payment, and that's less than Plastiq's 2.5%. I've seen billpay at my local Kroger store too, but haven't looked into that one.

It's not something I've used, just because mainly I'm not into VGC purchasing like that. The only time I buy them is like when Staples runs their no-fee deal and I can turn them around and buy Disney GCs at Best Buy. Plus, I'm only making about two more payments on this student loan before it's gone. The rest of my student loans I keep on auto-debit from my checking account. I'm on the public service loan forgiveness program and I don't like to mess with that!

Can I just say something about how awesome you all are... :)

I love how this place embraces off-topic tangents and side track conversations. I love how people share personal stories (both happy and sad). I love how we can poke fun at each other and share memes and gifs (and even shun people all in good fun ;)) This place has become a community - when people post they aren't just random DIS members, I see your name or avatar and in a way I "know" you. Sometimes I venture away from our thread to other parts of the DIS and I don't realize that people don't want to form a community of friends. They just want answers or drama or something...and I try to be "me" and that backfires...badly sometimes.

This place is AMAZING, you guys are AWESOME, I don't just love credit cards, I love this thread and all my DISchurner friends :)

If this is an effort to increase your “Likes” count so that I’ll never catch up to you, it’s working.

All of mine just show this when I click through. This was for business for two people. When I click "next" it just tells me I don't have enough points (because I don't).

Just keep in mind that when you're looking at the Alaska site for possible partner availability, you're not looking at the # of AA miles needed. If that seat is considered "Business / First" then it'll be the 60k one way as a sAAver award, but if it's considered "First" then it could be up to 80k. (if I'm reading the AA award charts right) They also have a note in the chart "#Award travel is available between these regions as denoted by the availability indicator (green checkmark), however two awards must be claimed as the only service available is to/from the contiguous 48 U.S. states." which sounds to me like you may have to book round trip. If so, you'd just alter your original plan by booking your seats RT separately.

Do they show JAL flights at all on AA? I’m not even sure I’ve checked. I’ve just been looked at BA and Alaska to check for award availability. AA wants an insane amount of miles to get you there on their planes, and it’s usually crappy flights!
Yeah, I feel like they don’t. I’ve only ever booked JAL through their own website. I know we looked at AA once years ago & found the same crappy “fake business” award tickets so when I saw your post I thought, oh no!

Now, of course, I know you can search via alliance partners :teacher: But I forgot Alaska existed & BA had the same lousy flights as AA did.

Any reason for me NOT to apply for Chase Freedom Unlimited card? I have just started playing with hotel points. I dont want to pay an annual fee for any cards. I have a hilton amex, jetblue mc, and disney visa. Main spend is on jb for flights. We camp and dont spend more than a night or two a year in hotels, but that is changing as we age. I would like access to ultimate rewards without an annual fee. Thank you to anyone that replies!

So this may not help anyone else, but I have been lazy in not signing my kids up for airline miles. I didn't want to have to keep track of 3 more email addresses. Frontier would not allow me to sign up the kids with emails; I had to call. This was actually awesome, because the kids' miles numbers are now all under my email address. It was really easy (10 minute phone call). I wish I would have checked into this with other airlines as we flew St. Louis to San Diego - Honolulu - St. Louis last summer! I only had accumulated miles for myself because it was such a hassle!

Thanks! Yeah I definitely need to call AA and play around with it too, I just haven’t had the time. We’re totally fine with booking business. I’m basically willing to go wherever is available on either flight, which is why I want to build up a cushion in case I need to book first at a higher mileage rate for one of the flights.

Welcome!! It is not a bad card but there are much more lucrative offers out there. Is your goal to get one card to put all your expenses on it OR are you looking to start chasing signup bonuses to fund travel or something along those lines. What we discuss and advocate here is signing up for 4+ cards a year, moving from bonus to bonus and earning 10-40% back on our purchases (vs 2% or something you’d get from just one card).

Regarding annual fees - consider these two hypothetical offers:
(1) you get $150 but pay no annual fee (net $150)
(2) you get $800 but have to pay a $95 annual fee (net $705)

This can illustrate that annual fees aren’t always bad. I think you should take a look at post #2 on the first page and give us some more detail so we could help provide some customized advice.
