I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

We’re in need of a new dishwasher so my MRs are about to pay for that. Not a “sexy” use of points but very practical so I’ll go ahead and do it.

Same as you though, I wait until I have the need for a gift card. The e-gift cards from Amex come through so quick that there’s no need to redeem ahead of time. :)

Almost did that for our new washing machine until hubby was lured into the dream of a first class ticket for less than the washing machine cost  So we paid cash and the MR live to fly another day.

PNC bank advice..... set up two new accts in my name- already see the 2k on each posted on the CIP (yay! MSR done!) ....question- how soon can I use that bank acct to pay off my cc bill? or is there a different method, like transferring to a different acct and then paying off? (i know I have to leave a certain amount in for 180 days) just pinning down if I'm now allowed to pay the cc bill straight from there or more circumspect

You can just pay off the card directly with the PNC account but it's not generally recommended. If you can wait the couple extra days I'd recommend sending the money into your main account that you usually pay Chase with and then setting up the payment from there once it arrives.

I called the Chase tax form line. The guy I talked to seemed nice and was fully aware of issues. He said he would "open a dispute" which may take 30 days but to call back in a couple of weeks. We'll see! I figure if they credit me correctly...2 x 200 for CIP and 100 for Disney, that will put me under the $600 threshold!

That's great you got someone who understood what was going on. I tried yesterday and while I was told I have a dispute open I have no idea what it's actually for as it was hard to tell if the reps even understood what a tax form is let alone what the problem was. However, I would think that even though you're under the $600 threshold the correction is still going to be reported to the IRS. Otherwise if they don't, the IRS still thinks you owe on the original form, and I'd rather owe on a legit $500 than an incorrect >$600.

AmEx doesn't care about 5/24, it's just if you want Chase cards. Just to be clear, there are 2 types of AUs on the plat - either platinum or gold. Do you need the platinum AU on platinum benefits like lounge access or Hilton/Marriott status? If you only need the TSA/Global credit, then being gold AU on platinum is free (up to 99! lol).
I get that. I'm just thinking I WANT a platunum AU for myself on the platinum. Once I get one for me, then the other 2 would be free. Do I NEED it? No. But I'm trying to justify it anyway.

Still need to catch up from last night, but I wanted to circle back on my (so far) very frustrating interactions with Chase on the 1099 error issue. All Twitter support came back with was a number to call for the 1099 department. I recommend skipping this step and going right to CS. The first time I called in to the 1099 department, I was cut off in the middle of explaining my issue. The second time I called in, I explained the issue and then was told that the person in the 1099 department could only see a copy of my 1099 and had no access to information on the detail behind it. Completely useless!! He then transferred me to CS who made me repeat my issue and then spent several minutes "researching." Turns out what he was doing was adding up the dollar value of refunds credited to my CF due to returns. What?!? I explained to him that if the 1099 related to points earned on purchases that were later reversed, then I need about 50,000 more points in my account to be made whole! That stumped him. He decided he needed to transfer me to a "specialist". I again had to give background on my issue. The specialist did indicate that she has had a number of calls on this issue. She also indicated she saw no redemptions or other points activity on my CF that would warrant a $500 1099. Sadly, her only course of action was to open an investigation into the issue that can take up to 30 days. She also suggested I call back in 2-3 weeks to follow up and gave me the direct number to her department. So frustrating to speak with 4 people this morning and end up with essentially no resolution. The 30 days really isn't an issue for me since I file on extension every year, but I doubt it is going to make those who want to file sooner happy. Needless to say, Chase Support heard all about my frustration with the lack of customer service via several Tweets this morning.
Well this is beyond scary that instead of something that should be easily programmable to find referrable bonuses, some "guy" is adding up items to put on 1099s! or even if it is programmed, the UAT/quality control is non-existent.

This is just insane that they have a support department that absolutely has no idea what they are supporting. Like I'm flabbergasted at the ineptitude that Chase would put together a phone line and then not actually staff it with anyone who can do or see anything. I too was transferred to a CS who kept trying to look at my rewards redemptions, because that's what the 1099 rep transferred me for. When I tried to explain it was for a 1099 tax form, the rep started looking for something that was 10.99 on my account... At least you got to a specialist, I got put on hold while she spoke with the specialist and came back with 'that isn't anything that you owe, that's for points for all of 2018. so from Jan 2018 all through Dec 2018'

I gave up at that point after she said I have a dispute open already and I'm going to give the regular CS line an earful by the end of the week when I can deal with it again. Used up all my patience yesterday. Good for you that you stuck it out to get the number for the right department at least (we think :p).

What do you mean no QA?

Points: 500.00

1099 form: 500.00

What's the problem? All the numbers match up, what else is there to look at? UAT, done and done.

You mean sort of like marriott? starriot? Bonvoy whatever?

I just want to confirm before I call...

If I PC my CIP to CIU, I can still transfer the URs to my frequent traveler accounts right? Because otherwise I can't...I only have the CFs. DH holds the CSR, but I can't transfer from his CSR to my frequent traveler accounts for when I travel w/o him.

Sorry for those dealing with Chase's mixup. I should be getting a 1099 from AmEx but so far nothing -- not sure if the delay is the fault of AmEx or my post office (which is just generally horrible).

I am curious what other credit card bonuses might be subject to 1099 reporting -- my understanding is that there has been language somewhere about referral bonuses being subject to 1099 reporting even though most banks hadn't actually sent them. Is the same true for something like points back for spending? I think there is some info on DoC about Discover possibly having sent 1099 forms for the cash back rewards. Anyone have any solid info?

Quoting myself to provide DP:
I was a dummy and put my DH's social in the EIN spot instead of mine. :headache: I had provided my social on the personal info. Needless to say, the info didn't match. So she put it back through with the correct info and I am all set. Card is on the way with a $20k CL, which seems crazy for my small revenue, but whatever.

Didn't we have someone else who did this before?

CIP AF just posted. Need to decide what to do with it. DH has one as well, so maybe PC mine to CIC or CIU? I only go to office supply stores for gift card deals. Is it worth having the CIC just for that? We don't have a FU or CIU at all either, so the 1.5x uR would be nice. We are going to sell our house and move, so I have to hold on new apps for awhile, meaning I can only get those from PC for the next few months. Any thoughts?

So you won on moving I take it? :)

Nice!!!

Thanks for all the VA tips. Flying out tomorrow to MCO and will start looking into this afterwards. August is really our only choice. The family we travel with the husband is a teacher and our kids play all star baseball all summer so it’s really the only week that works. How many days at BG is enough? One full or try to do 2? I hate water parks but if it’s hot as hades the kids would like it- id just insist we rent a cabana

I think 2 days, or like you said in another post- do one full day and swing back by to do a couple more rides before going to the beach. We go every year/every other year depending on early spring Groupon deals and usually spend the whole day there, and that's with us knowing what we're not interested in riding and skipping. I'm not a huge fan of water parks either, but I've been to Water Country several times and it's always been pretty nice and well-maintained. BG really does a nice job on cleanliness and upkeep.

Haven't been following along, just too much activity here for me too keep up day to day. But I have a question about Marriott points to Delta Skymiles. I haven't transferred hotel points for miles since before SPG merged with Marriott. I need another 14k Delta miles in order to book our 3 tickets to MCO in October. Since I want all of the seats on the same reservation, I would like to book them all with points at the same time. I have enough Marriott points to easily cover the need for 14k Delta Skymiles. It says on the Marriott website that if I transfer 60k Marriott points, they will include a 5k miles bonus for what should be a total of 25k miles. Though this is a bit more than I need, I think it would be a better bang for my points buck, so I am inclined to do this. But when I go to the confirmation page, it doesn't confirm the bonus in any way. Will it just show up? Thanks.

So you won on moving I take it? :)

Someone either did it or was paranoid that they did it but didn't actually do it. Ha! But yes, it has come up!

Moving...well, that is TBD. My DH started a new job last March that was with a startup and it has been a disaster. So now he is on the hunt for a new job...possibily in CHS....possibly still here in TN. Guess we will know where we are moving to once he gets a job. Either way, we are going to sell our house. When we bought it the plan was to flip it in 2 years. Worst case, we will sell and not have a mortgage for summer, so I can do a 2 month rental in CHS for the summer. Best case, I never come back to Tn at the end of that.

The Discover issue was for when referral bonuses were Cashback rather than statement credits as they are now. If you got a referral Cashback bonus in your first year, it too was doubled in the Cashback match. For people who's match year ended in 2018 that match on referrals is being reported, is my understanding. The regular Cashback and matching amounts is still fine and covered under the "rebate" definition that generally excludes cashback and sign up bonuses.

Anxiously waiting on my PNC bonus. I just got an email that I need to do the 10 debits and deposit 5K to get my $300 bonus. I already did that. I know they just don't have it in the system yet but I am still worried my Chase push won't count despite everyone telling me it will. It is irrational on my part! I know Chase's bonuses were usually Tuesday after you met requirements. Does anyone know PNC timetable? Sounds like they are batched as well.
My last debit posted on a Monday (1/14) and my bonus was almost 2 weeks later on a Friday (1/25).

I'm actually about to reroute DH's through my Chase acct because the deposit from our credit union posted as ACH WEB PAYMENT and my understanding is that doesn't count. Then I'll probably have to do my daughter's as well.

I don't see CIU having the ability to transfer to loyalty accounts. CIP (and old CIC+) amongst the Ink cards can.

Does your DH have frequent traveler accounts? You could get travel for yourself using his loyalty accounts to "pay" for it AFAIK.

Y'all know a part of me just died reading this...:)

Last week I transferred to American and that's what happened...I actually miscalculated and when the miles showed up on my AA site I didn't know where the extra 5,000 miles came from. So...it should. Also, remember that it can take a couple of days for the transfer to occur-took mine 3 for AA.

Same here, still nothing in Informed Delivery.

I haven’t received anything from Amex either...but the only referral we had was on the SPG business card...20,000 points....so maybe Amex is only sending out 1099s on SS numbers where referrals across all cards is $600 or greater

Yeah, no huge rush to book so it is alright if it takes a few days. Thanks for confirming that you got the bonus!
