I'm considering keeping DH's amex platinum after the first year. He uses the uber credits and actually makes use of the lounges. We got AA GC with the travel bonus last year and have already used some of it. I got DD some boots with the Sacks credit. So I think we cover the AF with the benefits.
Also, I have Global Entry renewals coming up for the rest of family (dh just got his) and I was actually considering getting AU cards for me and the girls (they are currently AUs on my gold). I'm not sure that's worth it either. Any thoughts?

We’re in need of a new dishwasher so my MRs are about to pay for that. Not a “sexy” use of points but very practical so I’ll go ahead and do it.

Same as you though, I wait until I have the need for a gift card. The e-gift cards from Amex come through so quick that there’s no need to redeem ahead of time.

Good to know they come through quick. I also will probably need some new kitchen appliances soon as they are 8-10 years old from my last remodel.

I've procrastinated on getting it and am now thinking about product changing my CSR to a CF, but if I could squeeze the global entry fee in, I might go ahead and do that as well. But, if it isn't charged until after your appointment, it would probably be too late.

But, if it isn't charged until after your appointment, it would probably be too late.

Mine was charged when I initially applied and the CSR credit quickly followed.

So the one year that I actually get my tax refund direct deposited like I asked (I pick that option every year, but ALWAYS get a check in the mail instead) is the year I will end up amending due to credit card referrals and having to pay in again.

I am holding out for a few more days for any stragglers. They are complete except for one form that Massachusetts hasn't finished yet. Federal and Rhode Island are ready. I think I will have to amend in July for car taxes as previous years tax bills are issued in July.

I called the reconsideration line for BoA about being declined for the Alaska Air BoA card. Declination reason was that I had too many cards recently opened last year, and something about high balances. I asked to put through a second request, declined again. I had the CFU, CP, SW, and AMEX Everyday opened last year in 2018. Beyond that, I only have the CF which I've held for years. In between those years I had a couple store cards, a Synchony for Midas, and another bank's Visa, but those were all closed. I don't keep balances on them, and pay off monthly. I am constantly getting mailers every month for the Alaska Air card over the last several years, and finally decided to go for it and was declined. I think I'm just giving up on BoA. I really do not understand how you all churn successfully, does anyone here ever get declined?

RIP Redbird...the good ole' days. I had to drive 5 hours to get one as that was the closest Target that had them.

Unexpected side effect of the Amex Platinum Centurion Lounge benefit........how LONG can my layover be and still get me to my destination at a reasonable hour? Those free massages and manis at DFW are hard to resist! Combine that with GE/TSA Pre benefit and airline credits, I am LOVING this card. And I don't even travel a bunch.....YET!

Already trying to figure out how to calculate the value of KEEPING it beyond year one and it's only been three months.

They have tightened up it seems. The like to see deposit accounts with larger sums of money in them (thousands and not hundreds). They used to be fairly easy a few years back. I would just move on.

I always file early as we have so few forms coming in anyways and they all come by the end of January... of course, this year I filed just before all the 1099 stuff hit the fan as we weren't expecting that. I'll just have amend in late March or so.

I gave up on BoA 2-3 years ago. They were decidedly the worst issuer in my book until AMEX has attempted to match them recently with their shenanigans. BoA was so bold they actually approved me a for a card and then instead of mailing the card, mailed me a letter saying my approval was in error! At that point, they were DEAD to me. Don't let BoA spoil churning for you

I can only speak for myself, but yes. Different banks (issuers) have different quirks so it's important to know that and try to not take it personally. When I was busy accruing personal cards I applied for the Club Carlson Radisson Rewards card from US Bank. I didn't know they were sometimes picky about issuing cards and I was declined. I was sooo sad but realized that not every bank loves you the same. I just decided to focus more on other hotel brands/branded cards (with Amex who liked me at the time) and moved on.
