So I can dress them up with custom-made decals, monograms & bows.

They live in a popcorn bucket when not in use.

Those are so cute! Do you slide the bow over them when you wear them?

It was that cold last Christmas and I was freezing. Had 4 layers on and still freezing, but we are not from the Midwest. I believe 39 at Disney is way colder than 39 here. Regardless of the weather, we always have a great time!
oh gosh, I am so torn about DAH. Only other MK day we could do would be Sunday, which is a red park says Kenny and has am EMH.

You rarely can get any credit for DCP :( You can take online classes though. My dd is getting her basics out of the way at a community college anyway. It won't be anything for her to take an online class while in the CP. I don't think more than one as some kids work a TON of hours but maybe your dd could handle more??

Btw, the apps for the fall open tomorrow....!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would think if someone is in an actual hospitality program they would get credit. We had to do two internships, the first was based off hours and the second was some type of project. The second one was kinda dumb. I did mine for a tennis tournament and had to get the ok but hadn't had luck getting anything in a hotel, internship or part time work. It ended up working out for me though. The interesting thing was I went to school in San Francisco and was a hotel management major yet had never heard of DCP until I found the boards. Maybe the prof's didn't like the program which is the only thing that would make sense.

I would also have any of them look into an independent study option and see if there's something they can do to turn it into credits, whether it's the internship itself which may work just by the hours, or some type of project they could work on at the same time. I had to do one class IS because it wasn't offered my last semester and I wasn't going to not graduate because of it especially when it was a restaurant class about inventory and ordering food. By this point I'd steered towards sports and had already gotten my advisor to let me use a recreation and leadership class instead of a hotel one. The three hotel, rec and restaurant made up the entire department so it wasn't a stretch.

This explains why it wasn't looking like a good deal at all to me...I wasn't logged in! Thanks for sharing all this. I app'd a few nights
ago and got a 'reviewing your app' message. My searching tells me it may be a PIN coming in the mail that I have to use to verify my identity or something. We will see. Not sure what a reason would be to deny me. Hopefully I will be boarding the train soon!

Using AA Miles to pay for Disney Vacations
  • Go to this website: https://www.useaamiles.com/carhotel/
  • If you aren't logged in you'll want to do so - when not logged in you will see the following message:
    • Log In Now: AAdvantage® elite status members and co-branded credit cardholders enjoy exclusive rates.
That is absolutely true - the rates are significantly lower if you qualify!
  • Do a Hotel search for dates for Orlando Florida. When they come up there will be numerous resorts...
  • Type in “Disney’s” into the filter box to only pull Disney Resorts (make sure to include the 's as some off-property hotels use the word Disney in their description
  • Then check out what's available!
  • If Disney is running a room only promotion, those rates will kick in too so you can stack a Disney discount with using AA Miles
  • You'll find that AA Miles are worth 1cpp towards hotels (but only 0.6cpp if you aren't logged in and/or don't qualify for the exclusive rates)
Here's a couple of examples:

TRAVEL DATES 11/2 – 11/7

Yacht Club – Garden or Woods View
  • $2,945.25 on Disney website (no promo rate)
  • 296,000 AA Miles when logged in (1cpp)
  • 493,200 AA Miles not logged in (0.6cpp)
TRAVEL DATES 9/9 – 9/14
Pop Century – Standard View
  • $608.41 – Sun and Fun Offer on Disney site (promo rate)
  • 61,200 AA Miles when logged in (1cpp)
  • 101,900 AA Miles not logged in (0.6cpp)
So you can see that the ~1cpp holds on both regular pricing and promotional rates. Hotel availability may vary from the Disney site BUT a ton of hotels were available on the Sept dates.

Resorts that were available on the AAdvantage website for the Example Sept Week
  • Disney's Pop Century Resort
  • Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort
  • Disney's All Star Music Resort
  • Disney's Port Orleans Resort French Quarter
  • Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge
  • Disney's Art of Animation Resort

CAN I ADD DINING AND TICKETS?
If others want to do more research on this...have at it. It appears to me that you CAN add tickets and dining but you have to be booking an AA package. That means you need to be booking one of the following combos:
  • Flight + Hotel
  • Hotel + Car
  • Flight + Car (this one makes no sense...for this whole discussion though)
If you were not planning to book a flight or car then this probably is a dud. If anybody can figure out if I'm missing something here, please let me know though!! If you were booking a flight or car to begin with, it's worth noting that the park tickets were the flexible tickets meaning you're paying the highest price. This may work for folks booking during an expensive price season but be a bad deal for those going during lower priced time periods. Both dining and ticket pricing seemed to be slightly less than 1cpp so this may not be a great deal for anybody. It looks like you could add either/or without doing the other so there is flexibility.

Hopefully this helps those thinking about earning AA Miles towards Disney! I will include this in the new Disney thread when I put it up on DISchurners.

Awesome! I consulted the flow chart and that's what I'm hoping for. That CIP bonus is amazing. BTW what is all the talk about an EIN with the CIP? Do you need one now or am I missing something/ reading something wrong? I skipped a bunch of pages when we went on vacation recently and trying to figure out if I missed something. We got CIPs in 2018 and didn't need one.

The EIN talk is people applying for a second CIP with EIN if they have a business rather than a "business." Basically self referring from the SSN CIP to an EIN CIP app and getting an additional 105,000 UR! Most recently @Lain and @SouthFayetteFan were discussing the possibility of applying with referral from SSN CIP with SSN again, but removing (or adding) the middle initial. There are some DPs out there showing it could work.

Ohhhhhh got it. Thanks!

I preface this with a disclaimer that I am not a CPA and am not suggesting anything that should be construed as tax or legal advice.

A lot of folks on r/churning have gotten 2 (or more) CIPs within 24 months by applying for CIP #1 using their SSN as a sole proprietor and CIP #2 using their SSN+EIN as a sole proprietor or with the EIN for their legit business. This is a bit of a loophole because you are applying for the same product, in effect, as two separate legal entities, under your SSN (you) and your EIN (your business). Going the SSN+EIN route, you’d put your SSN with your personal info and EIN as the Tax ID Number for your business or “business.” You don’t necessarily need a formalized business to apply for an EIN. You can get an EIN for your sole proprietorship (i.e., “you”) on the IRS website in just a few minutes, and the IRS will email/mail you a letter that has your EIN, which is your proof should the banks need documentation. As a real life example, eBay lets you save your SSN or EIN as the Tax ID Number in your account (and will issue a 1099 for that TIN if you have $20k or more in sales and 200+ transactions).

There have been a growing number of DPs on r/churning of folks applying for the CIPs #1 and #2 using only their SSN — the only difference in the apps being the addition or omission of a middle initial — either avoiding the EIN method or supplementing the EIN method for CIP #3. These folks are getting their second CIP with SSN approved, but there seems to be some debate whether the 80k UR bonus will post. But I have seen several DPs claiming the bonus has posted. Presumably, this trick works to get a second CIC or CIU with SSN too, but these cards with their only 50k UR bonuses are not as lucrative as a 20k UR self referral to another CIP for its 80k UR signup bonus.

I’ll post a few saved DPs and tag you two when I get the chance.

@Lain @SouthFayetteFan are there any implications that you are aware of if I apply for an EIN for my (legit) business (wondering if the IRS can track an EIN to my SSN and inquire about business revenue)? Not sure I'd want to tell our accountant that I applied for an EIN to get a UR bonus (he would not understand). My business does have my name in it. For example, Jane Doe Business Services. Does that make a difference? I am wondering if it would trigger anything at Chase if I applied for a second CIP. They gave me such a hard time with the first application (I had to show check stubs for my business and produce a Fictitious name certificate) that I'm not sure I want to go through that again.

Would love to apply for the CIP again lol.

To add to the above, applying for an EIN is not a taxable event. There are only tax implications if you engage in some activity with the EIN that’s a taxable event. Getting a credit card bonus doesn’t count.

Again, I'm not an accountant and don't know the particulars of your business, and you may want to loop your accountant in anyway. Unless you have a dba (or like you mentioned, a fictitious name certificate), you'd probably be applying for an EIN with only your legal first and last names, and you'd probably have to include your SSN.

For those that do shirts on a cricut, does the vinyl make the shirt stiff? I want to try and find a Mickey tank top for my August trip but it seems like the shirt wouldn't be as comfortable if I found one off etsy (or asked really nicely and paid one of you to do it and give you business for a biz card :D). I don't like that a lot of women's tanks with designs are like the back of a sports bra so you have to change what you wear under it especially when most solid colors are a normal style. Also why I don't have a Mariners tank.
I used to use siser easy weed but it is more work and I don't like the way it feels. Soooo, I discovered jet pro soft stretch for light fabrics. It is AH-mazing. You literally print any image you want on an inkjet printer and press it onto your shirt, bag, etc. It is so soft, and takes hardly any time at all b/c all you have to do is trim around it. It washes really well. The shirt on the left was made with it:Screen Shot 2019-01-21 at 8.26.42 PM.png

I do have a heat press which is a game changer. Definitely get one if you can.

I haven't found any issues with them being stiff, but as sungglebug said I think layering is a lot of it, I haven't done much layering overall. I have gotten more picky about the kind of shirts I like to use, in fact I think I'm going to goodwill a bunch of plain tshirts from Michaels because I have found a brand I like a lot better.
Not sure with the circuit software, but with my silhouette I can subtract the area that would otherwise be covered by another layer...thus eliminating the bulk.

I will look into the thermoflex mentioned upthread too!

No. She is just going to be starting college in th fall. Will have to check with her college to see how this would work. So taking online and summer classes for generals so you don’t fall behind and possibly getting credit for DCP as well? She could definitely take some classes at our local community college as they all transfer to the state college.
UT doesn't accept the DCP classes for credit or the hours worked. It is school dependent. There is actually a lady at UT whose job is to coordinate the DCP kids. You may have someone like that you could talk to about it. Ashlyn's summer classes and the online courses she is doing while at her DCP are all at the community college. They transfer to UT and cost less.:thumbsup2

Do you have a real heat press? I would think of upgrading once we have our own place, but right now the cricut easy press I got is miles better than the iron I was trying to use

A heat press is a game changer. Mine wasn't very expensive and worth its weight in gold. I have it on the floor of my office on a plant dolly thing from the garden section of Walmart so I can roll it over to the outlet when I need it.

do Magic bands expire? curious on why u guys have a lot of them...

The battery is good for about 2 years on them from what I've been told.

Don't know about anyone else but we go to the parks 10 - 20 times per year and for quite a long while we couldn't decline magic bands. We had about 40 or 50 accumulated from visits until we were able to decline them instead of choosing colors and names. They were sent to us no matter what. So have tons of them. Now we can decline them. Every so often I'll see one that I like and buy it.

My Global Entry interview is scheduled for Thursday this week. I haven’t received any information from them about my appt being delayed or canceled. Do I just not show up? Do I need to cancel my appt? Not sure what if anything I’m supposed to do. I’ve been getting emails saying I can complete the interview upon arrival in the states after an international flight, but I don’t have any international flights scheduled right now. I don’t want to lose my GE credit, which I’ve already paid and gotten back on my CSR. There’s no way to reschedule. The only places available are not anywhere near me.

Not sure we have an inkjet but this might be a better option than trying to find one I like to buy. All the one's I saw on etsy earlier are razorback which isn't what I want. Would a regular iron work, it's for one, maybe two tanks and I don't want to spend on stuff I don't need/won't use again.

Sounds to me like there's a bunch of you on here that have craft consulting businesses and your expected income is high :)

I somehow missed this--magic bands have special effects?
The limited edition bands have special effects whether it be special sounds, lights, or both. They do the effects at certain parks (entry points and fp spots). They only sell so many of them so if you ever see one you want it’s worth it to buy it right away. Just make sure you don’t buy a limited release one because they don’t have any effects

@StephPlum @palhockeymomof2 @Alexle2007 @Happy814

I know there was discussion of the Vera Bradley weekender bag and luggage the other day.

Vera Bradley Outlet is having a 30% off sale on top of already discounted prices. I just got my mom a microfiber black bag, wallet, and change purse for $54.63. There is a regular weekender out there for $27.65 before tax.

Thanks so much for this!! I'm about an hour away from the closest outlet, but I may have to make a weekend trip.

@disneymagicgirl congrats to your DD!!! How awesome!

I feel kind of bad.... put a Disney Dooney up on Ebay finally. I've been debating doing it for a year, and got an offer for half price fees on the next 5 things I sold for over $50, if I listed them by a certain date. It's one of the blue/aqua Dogs tote pattern that was so popular. Tons of orders were getting cancelled so I ordered through the Shop Parks app and through the Disney website and ended up getting both of my orders. I opened the one I liked the most and have been using it and the other is still in plastic. Listed it, immediately got 5 offers and ~20 watchers... best offer is $20 below asking price, and that is still almost $50 more than I spent on BOTH bags together. But that is the market for this pattern :confused3
Don't feel bad! I just purchased a 2018 LE gingerbread pin that was sold out when I checked-into my resort (only 7 days after it was released). I calculated I overpaid by about $8. Much better than $26 and $23 overpriced options I was previously watching/making offers on. If someone really wants something, they will pay for it!

Not the person you asked, but I have a Sunie 15" by 15" clamshell heat press and I love it. Totally changed the game for me with shirt making. I paid about $220 for mine, which isn't bad at all.

I'll have to look into that printable transfer material you mentioned. I've used a few, but not that brand. Thermoflex and thermoflex stretch are my go-to for HTV. I find it softer and more pliable than Siser, although I will use that when it's all I have.

I can't really speak to the Cricut software either, but I use the subtract method in Silhouette Studio frequently. So much easier to create a knockout than a bunch of layers. I agree that a heat press is totally worth it as well.

Cross-posting from the DGC thread...

Has anyone else done the $45 back on $45 Sam’s Club membership? I joined, downloaded the app, thought I had everything good to go... went to do scan and go and it didn’t show up. I asked a manager and she said it was a $45 gift card that would be e-mailed to me, but that doesn’t seem right... what did I miss? Really hoping I didn’t mess myself up by doing scan and go on this order :headache:

I did this deal last week. I messed up the Dosh so didn’t get money back there, but went to the Sam’s nearest me about two days after I signed up and when I checked out using the scan and go app it automatically took the $45 off my total. It didn’t show up until I actually went to pay. I think I also got an email with a $5 Sams egc. Haven’t looked at it yet.

Wow. Definitely interested in checking this out. Not sure I have the fortitude to pull it off though lol.
ETA: I was still a little nervous applying for P2’s CIC for her “business”. I’ll get over it though.

Well since I am 12 pages behind at 3pm :chat::rotfl2:

:offtopic: DD GOT HER DCP ASSIGNMENT!!!!! She is working at Tomorrowland terrace...which I think means lots of dessert parties. Can you imagine looking up at the fireworks from your job!? What? Dream come true!:yay:pixiedust:
What an amazing assignment! I wanted to do DCP so badly but the time commitment never worked for me. My dream assignment was BBB - though had I known the fireworks parties were possible, those would have been up there on my list!

Those are so cute! Do you slide the bow over them when you wear them?
Yes! :)

oh gosh, I am so torn about DAH. Only other MK day we could do would be Sunday, which is a red park says Kenny and has am EMH.
That is a tough one. There was a big difference between the crowds on party days and non-party days in September. I think part of our problem is we are wimps when it comes to cold weather and we didn't have thick enough layers on. In preparation for our Christmas trip, I bought cuddl duds (tops and bottoms) and the longer, packable coats. I think if you just have warm layers on, gloves, hats, etc you will be fine.

So excited for your daughter!

Have you logged into your GE account? Because when I did, my appointment was canceled. No email or notification of any kind. On the website it showed my app at “conditional approval” I think, when before it showed “appointment scheduled” or something like that. I was able to reschedule but who knows if they’ll be open by then either. Those international flights emails are on auto pilot, I’ve been getting them for months.
