I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

I grabbed your response just because it introduces a question I've been meaning to ask the hive mind here - and I certainly don't mean this in a snarky or condescending way, at all, ever - I'm genuinely trying to understand where the confusion about AU cards eligibility come in. It gets asked a lot and so are there any issuers anywhere that make a distinction that if you have a card in your name (not an account!) that it negates the bonus or benefits or whatnot? I can understand people asking as a belt and suspenders approach if that's the case.

Since an authorized user is not the same as a joint account holder, when terms say you can't have had the card before, as an authorized user you are eligible because you don't have that card - someone else does and has simply authorized you to use their card (i.e. spend their money). In fact, I really don't remember giving any more information other than hubby's name when I first got him a couple AU cards so he could spend my money. I know that's not the case any more for most issuers, but if all they had was a name, there's no way they could tie that to any specific individual definitively.

Now a joint account holder is different, if the card is in both your names, then you each have equal responsibility for that account and it's debts. Thus if you had a joint account and now are trying for an individual account, I could see that negating the bonus terms. But does anyone even issue joint account cards anymore? I know there's some grandfathered ones out there but I haven't seen a credit application where I could jointly apply in forever.

So am I missing something in the equation? Or is it just a misunderstanding from the joint account holder days, where people assume AU is the same as having a joint account now? I admit some stuff just doesn't even enter the radar so I'd welcome enlightenment :)

I think part of the anxiety may be that things don't always work the way they are supposed to -- for example, AU cards shouldn't count in Chase's 5/24 calculations but generally they do. So I can see people double-checking that an AU won't (as opposed to shouldn't) mean the AU can't later get the SUB for the same card.

I just finished a survey for Chase. The last question was along the lines of "have you heard of 'The Points Guy'". Options were something like no, yes and read regularly, yes and have read a few posts and something else I can't remember.

Was one of the options “I despise the card hocking shill”?

Ugghhh. Well maybe TPG needs to get on chase about Disney. Apparently they care about his opinion.

I reached out to them multiple times asking to write an article in support of our cause...crickets... they’re in bed with Chase and Disney. They aren’t about to rock that boat it seems.

Updating my financial spreadsheet tonight...in good news, my total MSR I'm working on ticked below $9k, LOL! I went back through the history figuring this is the highest MSR I've ever had at once... Nope, back in fall 2016 I got myself into $11k at once with 7 approved cards in a 30 day span HAHA!

I'll try to set my personal record in a few weeks though when I probably add a CIP to the current total :D

Of course I finally caught up tonight and none of my quotes stayed.

@wendow Tables of Wonderland is accepted at most places. 20% is nice, but if you qualify for it you also probably qualify for AP/DVC discounts. So look at it closely. It does add tip. It includes alcohol which other discounts don’t so that is something to factor in as well.

On the issue of AU’s and people not getting difference sometimes even if know not joint accounts...my best example are my parents. As much as I wish they would let me help them they won’t. For the last two years I have been telling my mom she should get some card accounts in her name. For some reason she has had this mental block and figured she has a card in her name after all “it is printed right on there.” They won’t listen to the extent that despite me sending them CSR referrals they decided to just pay foreign transaction fees when in Europe. Of course a couple weeks ago my mom announced that maybe I was right “she got a card in her own name!” Turns out that she was walking through the airport and signed up for the Delta Gold. Her first Amex. And she was one of those people signing up in the airport without a referral (which she could have got from my Dad’s card if not from me), one of the worst possible Delta cards, at the worst possible time (no increased bonus). My sweet husband has tried to console me that it isn’t personal and he would bet alcohol was involved...but I am still unduly upset. Those lost miles...the lost Platicorn possibilities! :(

My personal record for minimum spends started this August. I stumbled into upgrading my personal SPG to Lux ($5000), when I was already working on Gold Biz ($10,000). I then got the Arrival Plus for $5000 when I figured out I could use it for the mortgage. Of course I met those and then upgraded Dh’s Personal SPG ($5000) got the Biz Plat ($10,000), and the Personal Gold. I met all the spends and never carried a balance. Points posted. Of course then it was January and I wondered why I was so poor...

let me consult my handy spreadsheet...

I app'd for the last one on 1/17 but sat pending forever til a letter called and I got around to calling. Didn't mark down the call/approval date. Shoot. Card arrived 2/15, so probably called around 2/5 or so. Not sure if I would go by the app date or approval date. Do you know?
This is tough. Everyone of the internet says that Citi goes by application date, but I don't think you will find useful data points on what happens when it takes a month to get your card. If your application is denied, it will probably reset your 90 day clock for your next application.

Dh and I just saw captain marvel. I thought it looked so stupid and Dh was the one that wanted to see it. I have to say it was so good! I think that might be because my expectations were so low, but I really enjoyed it. The only part I didn’t love was the cat. It was funny, but I thought it was just thrown in there for some laughs without being explained at all

What a boring day of March Madness. I basically exclusively root for underdogs all day (regardless of any brackets). I don't really consider 7/10 or 8/9 games an upset as they're virtually a tossup. So under that criteria, there was 1 upset out of 16 games... And VERY few close games (some were single digits but never in doubt near the end really). I think there were only 2 games that really went down to the wire. A lot of it was a snoozefest...and I watched pretty much parts of every game and the end of any game that was remotely close.

Sorry...totally off topic but today is like Christmas day to me...and it kinda fell flat.

I wanted to see it and had the opportunity to see on the Disney Dream on opening day...line had started around 11p and thus missed it.

How are you getting targeted for all these Chase surveys?!

Loving all your pics! My family is as well :D We are curious where the food is prepared?

Thank you! It is prepared upstairs in the bungalow and the staff brings it downstairs. The kitchen is to the left of the table with the water feature and champagne glasses.

I think I've caught up to today's chatter, and apparently I'm never going to catch up to @SouthFayetteFan's likes.

Just reporting in that I finally got around to calling Chase for a retention offer on my Marriott Biz, and got nothing. The rep tried to justify the 35k FN cert as the incentive, which I poured cold water on, and she didn't see any other offer available to me. Maybe I should've called sooner. OTOH, I put no spend on this card after meeting MSR so I'm not the best customer. And I can see @calypso726 and @Judique arguing that of course a $99 AF is worth another 35k FN cert in a year. I do wish I had a few more of those laying around.

Of course it is! Heck we are even keeping the business Bonvoy long term because I can still get way more value on the FN cert beyond $125.

A hundred likes! Only you could find a Mickey travel dress a million miles from DisneyWorld! I am not a dress person either, but I might wear that one.

Believe me it was the last thing I expected to find or buy. This is supposed to be the budget friendly trip with the exception of the underwater restaurant.

I’m guessing either @speedyfishy or @wanderlust7 holds the “highest MSRs at once” title in this thread.

Yup! Even I’m looking at Plastiq now! (Crazy thought huh?)

If you do decide to go the Plastiq route, a few of us have good Plastiq sign up offers for BUSINESS card payments, better than the usual $500FFD, just saying. ;) Dischurner love!

That Belmont game was intense!!! I'm not doing so great. Dh is beating me by 3 points. I think he's only missed 1 or 2 so far. BUT it's the next rounds that matter most.

I got two different Amex surveys in my email for my Hilton biz. I ignored the first one and finally today looked at the second one I got. The first question was "do you use any other cards for business expenses?". I just chose not to answer and didn't continue with the survey. I got nervous lol
