Yeah - that happened in this documentary. I found it on YouTube because of course now I wanted to see if it was out there. Ever since seeing that I told my wife that if we're ever at a beach and the water goes way down we get somewhere high...quickly! I think after the 2004 tsunami a lot was done to protect and educate but they just happen so fast!

(What you mention happens around 28 minutes in - people on the beach wondering where the water went)

Crazy. We have tsunami bouy's in the pacific ocean off the coast and I know the coastal towns have siren alert systems and evac plans in place but no real high ground to get to. I think one of the schools that was built a few years ago has a building that's tall enough and can hold a lot of people but I'm not sure there's much else. I now the native american's I think are trying to do stuff too cause they have reservations close to the coast.

There's earthquake stuff out on the ocean floor too I think to try and help with predictions and stuff. University of Washington is heavily involved in researching both of those things which is helpful.

We got the current gate price for our tickets applied to the AP price. Usually the most expensive ticket with the best savings is best. Sounds like you only have one option?

Our example is we had bought 7-day base tickets for $424. Current gate was over $500 so the CM bridged to the current gate price and we paid the remainder. We did our upgrade at DS GR and this CM knew exactly what to do. She even said we'd get a nice bump up from what we had paid for our tix.
You have to get the flexible ticket vs the specific date ones so they are over $100 each more. So that would be included in the bridging price?
Delta has the the package for $3912 or 195,600 miles. I can transfer MRs. When I cancel I would (hopefully) have 4 10 day park hoppers and get back a $825 voucher. In my mind that makes the cost for tickets $1125 which is $294 each for a ten day hopper. If the prices are the same as now bridging to an AP would cost about $300 more per ticket. That would give me APs for about $600 each getting me a great deal if all the ducks line up!

If you're planning to see both DL and DCA then you probably want 2 days. It's hard to give solid advice on that as people tour differently. I couldn't imagine going back to Disneyland without devoting 4-5 days to the parks personally :)
With MaxPass you can see the highlights of Disneyland in one day with a parkhopper (not cheap FYI and there are no discounts). Personally I like a nice long afternoon break and a minimum of 3 days. Best is 4-5 days, there are so many details at DLR! But if this was my only chance to see it for a few years I would absolutely do even just one day. Prioritize the stuff WDW doesn’t have/are different. (Except Grizzly Rapids. I adore the ride but “drenched” is definitely a possible outcome and with one day you don’t have time to deal with that.) If you can get your sisters to spring for 2 days I’d try for that! FYI during non summer/holiday times Fantasmic & fireworks only run Fri-Sun if that’s of interest to you.
Thanks. I’ll push for 2 days then. We can’t really do anymore than that due to other commitments. But I figured since we’d be close by, might as well check it out. I know next to nothing about DLR. time to start researching.

Along with the DLR board here I suggest Disneyland Daily. She started as a partner with WDW prep school for DLR and then went out on her own. She's fun to follow on fb and insta but is also in the parks every week making sure the stuff she talks about on her site is still accurate etc. I was just on there earlier looking for max pass info for a friend that's at the park now and needed more clarification on the timing.

Thanks! I’ll definitely check that out.

@DisneyMandC I know you were trying ti get dh to cut down on his tv watching but I just found old/original top gear on discovery! No idea how long or why but I like it. BBC America doesn't seem to show them much any more if at all.

ETA seems they aren't showing more any time soon but MTHD which is motor trend does show them but not a lot. I did set it to dvr the one with their road trip from vegas to palm springs where they race the police near the mexico border. I remember it being funny. There are some that make me laugh every time I watch, like the one where they build their own trains :rotfl2:

It’s so hard to give advice with all these variables. I just know we upgraded to APs for about $275 pp (gold dvc APs) which would make your pricing even better!

Just an FYI. I wouldn't recommend a Ford Focus. We got a fleet of them at work and they had so many problems, no one wanted to drive them. Biggest issue was the cars hesitated and stalled for no reason.
I'm all about Japanese cars. I definitely don't want to buy a Ford.

I am not sure in other parts of the country but here Honda Civics are one of the most frequently stolen cars by gang members. Not sure that is applicable though in your case. How frustrating! And I am someone whose first car was a Chevrolet Chevette that was ANCIENT but drivable. It was my Grandpa’s car and I had to pay my own money ($500). And now I drive a going on 10 year old Toyota Sienna. So it isn’t like I have any car pride. At all. :)
Thankfully we don't have an issue with vehicle thefts that I know of. But makes sense since they're so common--send them to a chop shop and resell the parts? And I hear you--I have an Odyssey with almost 140,000 miles on it that I need to drive for another 6-8 years.

Honda’s and Subaru’s are both very safe, coming from someone whose first car was a Honda Civic and current car is a Subaru. Your daughter would have been horrified with MY Civic. Manual transmission and manual choke. It looked something like this, only whiteView attachment 431561
We have 3 Subarus at our house. 😎 We love them! But we also live in snow country and they are great in the winter.

I don't think I was nice as much as selfish, lol. I had a Grand Plan a la @AmyAnne and planned on DH giving DD his car, his getting mine and then viola! new car for mom. Sigh, DD felt DH's car was too pretentious (in the neighborhood where her school was, actually valid) so he kept his, I kept mine, and she has the newest car in the family. :sad1: Now she's away he'll sell his in Jan and use hers occasionally but mostly we'll share mine.

Also, I was tired of picking up/dropping off for activities (mostly) and knew that her BFF who had been her chauffeur would graduate a year before she would and I didn't want to spend any more time driving her hither and yon than necessary. TL;DR- when she got the car I could sleep in/not stay up! Sleep is my friend :)

I had the same ulterior motives. I had 3 kids, and all of them were in multiple sports, activities and jobs. It was an extra full time job just getting them back and forth. Then there were the other kids who needed rides and whose parents didn't seem to mind them fending for themselves and asking their classmates could they ride. The worst were the 'away' activities where the bus didn't get back until 2am but you had to get there a little earlier just in case or it was delayed and you and other parents were sitting at the school until 3. Eventually they had cellphones. Older daughter had a pager back in the day but 'I' did not.

My DD mocks mine all the time. I tell her "it's five years older than you" and she replies "not making the point you think you are, mom." 🤣

Haha ….My AOL is 22 years old originally but I had to change it when my young son got us kicked off AOL. I had 4 letters plus my age at the time - 44. Changed that to 50.

At some point I got a personal gmail and had a work gmail and also a personal yahoo. The AOL stuck. It's the address everybody knows including all the spammers. My personal gmail is my actual name so good for some stuff, not so good for others.

I know, right? It was crazy. We used them for coasters at work, hung them in the trees to keep the birds from eating our fruit, etc. It was also so, so wasteful.

Back in the day, AOL was a gold mine. I have a friend who worked for them and made tons of money.
Well, at least you recycled yours. I bet if I looked in some of my basement storage boxes I'd come up with a few. And as far as the actual CD's, I found a 30 pack with a 2.99 price sticker and I haven't tossed them yet. Maybe I can use them to scare of the 5 squirrels in my back yard.

@mmmears You aren’t alone in not buying your kiddo a car. Dh and I both had to buy our first cars. Our kids will as well. We have a shared kid car (that is a civic) and the driving kids can share it but it’s not theirs. Both my teens have worked and saved and have enough in savings to buy their own car when they want.
Me too..... we allowed both of ours the use of our ancient subaru wagon until they could save enough to buy their own cars...as long as they could afford the insurance and gas for themselves. The car is OLD....and they both saved up and got what they preferred. Ds1 didn't get a license till almost 19, so he spent almost a year riding a ten speed the 2 miles to work daily....which gave him a good reason to get a license :rotfl: and using our beater car gave them both good reasons to look for something they liked better:rotfl2: I had to do the same,as did my DH. It had nothing to do with the money for me, they just needed to save and buy what they really wanted....after a short life lesson in how expensive cars are to buy and keep, both chose common sense used cars that should run well for years. We were known as 'the cheapo parents' for quite a while amongst our kids' teen friends lol.... I can live with that!:rotfl:
