Especially since that cat 5 is sitting there for days. Just awful.

Yup. I just looked at the radar and even right now it’s just hovering over top of it. Even assuming the house somehow survives, I wonder how the power grid and infrastructure will recover. My mom is supposed to go there for Christmas with my brother.

I have a Chase...question. My BIL is interested in (sorta) getting into the game, and after I talked to him about options he and SIL are going to go for a Chase Freedom Unlimited and a CSP (tried to convince him CSR but he can't stomach the AF). I currently have a Freedom and a CSR and I can't seem to generate a ... link to CSP for him. I found the area to do it but when I put in the info it says I am bot eligible (from either of my accounts). Do you need to hold a specific Chase card to ... to it? Am I doing something wrong?
You need to hold the card to generate a support link for it. Unless you PC your current cards to CFU and CSP you will be unable to generate support links for those cards. (And I’m not suggesting that PCing makes sense - just pointing out that it’s possible).

As an aside, my BIL has a business and with his business spend and personal card options... oh, could they travel well! They have next to zero interest in "playing the CC points game", they just want a couple cards for long term use to earn flight to Disney in 2021.

BIL also told me his dad (they run the business together) recently got a call from their CC (Capital One, he thinks) that they have maxed out the number of points they can accrue!!! His dad didn't even realize they had been accruing points for the last 20 years and never even looked at them. I told him to get me the info and I could help them plan a great family trip with all those points, LOL!

You need the same card they want to send a support link CSP-CSP and CFU-CFU

Did you make a decision? A lot of people around us have left, though I'm not sure if they already had plans for the long weekend or left because of Dorian.

Yesterday people here were jovial and cheering that we were going to be spared, but that attitude has shifted. I am not as hopeful as I was yesterday with the NHC morning update. I think we may have a few hours left today to make a final decision.

I have a room booked at the JW Marriott on Marco Island for a few days as a backup plan but I haven't decided if we will leave as yet. We are currently under a Tropical Storm Warning, which may change to a Hurricane Warning as the day progresses. Until Dorian hits the open water after she thrashes the Bahamas we won't know where she's heading and when. A category 4 or worse category 5 hurricane is very, very serious and should not be taken lightly.

My thoughts and prayers are currently with the Bahamas. Very scary situation for everyone on the island.
We haven’t decided yet. Dh thinks we should stay and all of our neighbors look like they’re still here. The problem is we've started noticing gusts of wind and Dh doesn’t want to drive and get blown off the road. Are guys still at home?

Monday is Labor Day and that will definitely be a day off for all FL schools :) I know UCF which is the largest college population in the country is off through at least Tues night, ditto Orange County School District.
Thanks for the update. I guess I was thinking since it is a school night, less locals, unless they had called off school for Tuesday, which it sounds like they did? Is Orange County orlando or nearby?

Yeah - that happened in this documentary. I found it on YouTube because of course now I wanted to see if it was out there. Ever since seeing that I told my wife that if we're ever at a beach and the water goes way down we get somewhere high...quickly! I think after the 2004 tsunami a lot was done to protect and educate but they just happen so fast!

(What you mention happens around 28 minutes in - people on the beach wondering where the water went)

Similar happened with hurricane Irma. Luckily the returning surge wasn’t as bad as a tsunami

It’s must be so hard to decide what to do...my sister lives in St Augustine, they are staying as are most people there

Castaway Cay is below Great Abacao but pretty close. I can't imagine there won't be significant land erosion, etc to Castaway Cay after Dorian passes by.

I imagine there will be significant erosion on the beaches. They are saying our beaches in Palm Beach County will see significant erosion and we *may* not even be hit as hard as the Bahamas.

Waiting for NHC updates is so hard. I wish I was more decisive. I don't really want to leave my house, but if there's even a chance we'll be hit with a cat 4 or 5 common sense tells me we should get out now.

A close friend is going to Loews Miami around noon with his elderly mom and daughter (same age as dd) as it looks like Miami will be spared (he doesn't have a generator and his mom is very, very worried about the storm). I am not confident it (Miami) will be completely spared. Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental have closed indefinitely. The Intercontinental has a statement on their website that they reserve the right to evacuate the hotel if needed; I would hate to get there, be kicked out and have to drive back home in winds and pouring rain. Plus our house is basically a fortress (what our neighbors call it), so I *think* we should be safe here; also we didn't lose power during Irma (though every subdivision within 10 miles of us did, some for 7 days or more). Dd is worried our roof will blow off or cave in (due to water). I figure I have until mid-afternoon to make a decision.

I've concluded we will know when we know. I'm not going to worry at all. Going down tomorrow and if I need to leave to come home early I will. Worst case scenario is I rent a car and drive the 10 hours home. Meanwhile, I am going to enjoy what I get of my trip.
Now if I lived on the coast, I'd be watching much more carefully, with my bag packed and important things secured just in case of a last minute change that forced me to bail on staying home. I think that is all you can do with this storm. It just isn't acting like a normal hurricane.
And poor Bahamas. I woke up to see it will be sitting there wreaking havoc for even longer now. Anyone know if CC is in that cone? I feel awful for the Bahamians.

I just zero'ed in on CC on Googlemaps. Googlemaps shows a Disney ship sitting there (obviously not in real time) and it was kinda cool to see it. I was actually wondering if they evacuated all the staff. I would certainly hope so.
Also hope @calypso726 is enjoying herself! Plus that, another internet acquaintance of mine left yesterday on a 7 day Disney cruise. I know the ships sail away from any weather, but that is not where I want to be right now. No adventure left in me at all!

Yeah I’m thinking the same. Dh absolutely doesn’t want to leave but I don’t want to stay. He’s scared we might get blown off the road driving to Orlando.

I was looking for a sign and when I came in from walking the dog I looked at the security alarm panel and the time was 9:11. I figured that was a sign to leave (yet I'm still here and haven't packed a bag).

I am totally jealous of @calypso726 getting the extra time. I always wished that would happen on our sailings that were in hurricane season!
