:sad:First world problems in a BIG way lol.... I got both Amazon MR deals last week(so excited!) and instantly got my whole foods gc to use for groceries..... and now this week I "need" more Amazon discounts for a large baby gift for a fam member! I should have waited and used the deal on this! I'm Really hoping for more deals from either Amazon or Walmart in the next week or so....

Serve question - I see on the website CVS is a store where you can add money. However, I only ever see people talking about FD/DG/WM. I'm assuming that's for a reason? Has CVS disallowed Serve loads with GCs?

Woohoo! I finally did the CIP 2 for my DH and he was instantly approved! CIP 1 was with our business and this was with his "business". My plan is to alternate between our "business" and business for the apps. I cancelled his CIP 1 about a month ago. Now to get it expedited!

Hi Churner Peeps! This may be old news I missed since I don't pay too much attention to booking Disney hotels but I discovered that Disney hotels can be booked with Avios while looking for something completely different. I figured I'd share. URs transfer to BA Avios and so do Amex MR. I know some don't bother with Amex but it may be an option for those looking to book Disney hotels with points since MRs will transfer 1:1 to BA. I don't know if adding a throwaway rental car would make the rate better or not. But with Amex and now Chase doing transfer bonuses it might be feasible for some. Here are some random screenshots for a one night booking on Sept 14 at the Swan, Dolphin and Wilderness Lodge.

So it could cost me about 30k less MR points per night transferring to Avios than transferring to Marriott Bonvoy for Swan/Dolphin??? Am I missing something??

That is correct. If you are using UR or MR to transfer to Marriott then BA Avios is a better deal. The CPP value may not be ideal depending on what you are booking but it is good to have various options. I am not sure how it compares to the AA miles some are using to book Disney hotels but thought I’d throw it out there.

Most likely. CVS is cash only for several things so I don't think they allow debit. Here's @kidsfirsttrip experience from this discussion the other week
Pretty sure CVS is a no go. I bought a card there and it was cash only. Loads are the same

Hi everyone. Can I get some travel advice for late Sept/ early Oct? DH and I have some UR's piled up and are looking at possible trips. Are there any good deals for Europe those weeks? We would be flying out of New England. If we cant pull off Europe, we have the SW companion pass and some SW points as well, so a domestic vacation would be doable. We did just do Sedona and Grand Canyon but are open to all suggestions for any vacation at that time of year.

DH is off to Reno at the end of the week. He'll earn 11k RRs with his A list status extra 25%. That will put him at 56.6k out of the 70k needed for A list preferred. He'll finally get to use his Platinum for lounge access! He just needs the Plat card for the Escape lounge at Reno, right? Also he has a 3hr layover in Las Vegas on the way home, that's a Centurion lounge right? Just the Plat there too? He might actually leave the terminal if needed to go since it's a longer layover.

I've liked the Escape lounges I've been to - hope the one in Reno is good too!

Those of you who Serve/MS and use YNAB, how exactly do you budget for your MS in YNAB? I'm having a mental block here... For example, I picked up $400 of VGC at Staples over the weekend. Wanted to go to Wal Mart today but didn't get time. Since the goal here is obviously that I'll just be moving that money from the GC to Serve and back to my bank account, I'm trying to figure out how to account for that in YNAB. I don't want to "budget" $400 to a MS category, but obviously want to account for it in my CC spending. Does that make sense? What am I forgetting here/why is this so hard for me lol.

Will it mostly be balanced out in the same month? I would just create a category line for it, not budget anything to it... So for now it is -$400 in that category but then once you pull the money rom Serve back to your bank, that incoming $400 is budgeted toward it and it's back to $0. That's a bit like how I treat DHs expense check, except he gets paid back the following month so I have to move $$ from slush in to make YNAB happy, then when he is reimbursed the next month and his expense line has $$ in it I move that back to slush.

Lots of good ideas from YNABers - I do something similar to @amalone1013 - I book expenses/reimbursements on one line and let them offset. I hate having negatives for any length of time, so I actually keep $500 budgeted to my reimbursements line at all times, then if I spend $400 that will be reimbursed, I don't go negative in the category, it just sits there at $100 until I get the reimbursement. Its basically a part of my slush fund or emergency fund that just hangs out on the reimbursements line instead of in my emergency fund category.

I always tell DH that 7 nights isn't long enough, but then he points out I start missing the dogs about 3 hours from home...um, well, yes, there's that. :o

Of our Cruises, we've only done one for 7 nights. I'm one that has to take meclizine every night. And the only reason we did a 7 night one was because it had 6 ports. :flower1: We tend to get bored being on the ship all day. :rolleyes1 Kudos to ones who can enjoy longer cruises.

thanks for sharing- this so cool

So exciting to wake up this morning and find SO MANY URs across our several accounts! Getting ready to move some around in preparation for buying flights to Europe for next summer. Never done this before, so I’m a little nervous. I think our dates will be up within a week or so. I’m planning on using the United excursionist perk. Columbus to Edinburgh, Paris to Venice, then Venice to Columbus. Thank you all so much once again.

I reconnected with an old friend today who is in town on tour. We had a good laugh when we both whipped out our CSRs to pay for dinner and then started comparing notes. He doesn't churn but instead puts all of his hotel and dining charges on his CSR and then uses his per diem allowance from his employer to pay it off. Voila, easy 3x points on almost all of the money he spends and very little of it is actually out of pocket. He has been doing this for three years now, gathers enough points for an all-inclusive vacation every year, and just signed up for another long contract. It's a winning strategy for someone who doesn't have the day-to-day bandwidth to keep on top of different MSRs but travels a lot for work. Just something to keep in mind if any of us ever go out on tour (unlikely for me but you never know!)
Thats my husband. Well, not actually him.:p
He will only carry the one card, and on occasion (like this quarter- gas/Freedom) I can convince him to carry a second. So his one card is the CSR b/c he travels for work all week...hotels and dining. He rarely spends outside of that. Sometimes, if I need to top off the hilton points I shift his hotel costs to that, but it is online so doesn't require him carrying the card. He gets new cards, but I use those to hit MSR myself and he rarely even knows he had them. It is nice, because he spends several thousand a month btwn hotel/dining/gas that is all reimbursable from his employer. I've always said the points he gets from traveling that allow us to travel make up for him being gone a lot, and at this point it is our normal, so I wouldn't want to give up the points for him to be home every night at 6pm.

Vacations are like churning-there's no wrong way! I'm happiest on or near the water (evidenced by the ability to see the Bay from my house). Personally, I can't imagine camping or going to the mountains or Far East for fun but that's my preference...you be you! :)

Oh I hope you love Edinburgh! It's my favorite place (other than home). Good luck with the excursionist perk-let us know how it works out :)

Going to look into Plastique for my mortgage for the next couple of months as soon as I get that Citi card in the mail. It is a MasterCard so that should be OK, as far as I can tell.

I've seen some of you talk about a 'deal' (or maybe it's a sale?) where the Plastique fee is less than the regular 2.5%. Is this something you're getting for being a past customer, or how is that working? I'll probably go ahead and do it regardless, but I figured I should save every bit I can.
There was a 1.5% Plastiq promotion on three payments, but that has ended. Hopefully, something else will come along soon. If you purchase MCGCs and use them, the fee would be lower. That's a good option when you can get them without paying a fee. It may still make sense with the fee, but you'd have to run the numbers.
Oh, interesting; that would never have occurred to me.

I don't usually buy Visa (or MC) gift cards specifically BECAUSE there's a fee. I'll have to check that out! Thanks!

The first thing you can do to score some savings on Plastiq is to sign up for it using a support link on DISchurners. Signing up via a support link will get you $500 "Fee Free Dollars" ("FFDs") after you make your first $500+ in payments. You can apply FFDs to a payment, which means Plastiq will not charge you a fee on the amount of your FFDs and then charge you the prevailing % fee on whatever balance isn't covered by the FFDs.

If you can get P2 to sign up for Plastiq and make some payments, you can have him use your support link so that he gets $500 FFDs and you get the support bonus of $1,000 FFDs after P2 makes $500+ in payments.

$500 FFDs = $12.50. $1,000 FFDs = $25.00.

Next, Plastiq occasionally runs promos, like the 1.5% fee on 3 payments up to $10k on any kind of card that just ended on 6/31. We keep good tabs on these promos and share them on this thread and on DISchurners.

Lastly, MCGCs work well with Plastiq because MetaBank-issued MCGCs (the kind you usually find in the supermarket) are currently coding like debit cards on Plastiq, which means they process with only a 1% fee (vs. the regular 2.5% fee for credit cards). The max value MCGC you can buy at a supermarket is $500, which maximizes the use of the $5.95 activation fee, and minimizes the % of that fee vs. the value of the MCGC (1.19%). So you're buying a MCGC with a 1.19% fee in store and running it through Plastiq for a 1% fee, which is less than the usual 2.5% fee that Plastiq charges on credit card payments. People who have credit cards that earn a high bonus at supermarkets can do even better. The Amex Gold earns 4x MR at supermarkets, the Amex Everyday Preferred earns 6% cash back at at supermarkets, and some cards like the Chase Freedom or Discover have rotating bonus categories that include supermarkets (not this quarter, however). These cards earn more in rewards off the purchase at a supermarket than the total fees for the whole transaction, start to finish. Even the Chase Freedom Unlimited at 1.5x UR, Amex Blue Business Plus at 2x MR, or Citi Double Cash at 2% cash back will help you negate some of the fees.

However, if you're thinking of paying your mortgage company $495.05 (accounting for a 1% fee) at a time, you need to contact them and ask how they process partial payments that are less than the monthly statement amount (e.g., will it go towards the statement balance, applied to the principle, go into a suspension account that you can call in to direct payment? Can you put a memo line on the check that says apply to statement?).
