@palhockeymomof2 I think you mentioned the new toll visitor pass the other day. I am sorry I think you quoted something on it but I just thought I am not driving this time (of course then plans changed and DH decided to go so I am going to rent). At any rate I saw this today on it: https://touringplans.com/blog/2019/...s-a-new-option-for-visitors-with-rental-cars/

I always rent Alamo and use their express pass but this seems to be an even better deal since it is 25% off the tolls themselves and no start up fee. If I can save any money for not too much effort I am all about it. I am going to sign up and see how it goes. Not sure when your trip is, but if I do it first I can report back.

Thanks....yes that’s what we saw...leaving 5/25 but someone my DH works with is leaving tomorrow and using it...when he returns next week I’ll find out how it worked out for him...it seems like a great deal....my concern is if there is a long wait to pick it up on arrival at MCO

Thanks! I think we might give it a try for June 20th trip.

My dh notices advil causes his ringing to be worse as well. Is that a known thing and he should only take tylenol?
It’s a known but unusual side effect. Took me a long time to work out the cause and effect. It’s not that he shouldn’t take Advil, but if the side effect bothers him, he can try Tylenol. For me, occasional use is ok (I always have ringing, it just gets worse) and I don’t notice a big change unless I’ve taken multiple doses.

I've been looking at 2020 bookings via Amex FHR and Chase and I've found that they generally get inventory later than the hotel websites open dates. I couldn't look at anything beyond Dec 2019 for hotels via the Amex FHR program, and was getting lots of "sold out" properties on Chase. You can triangulate what it might cost using the location's website as compared to what you see on Chase (to see if its relatively comparable most of the time), but you might have to wait a while before you can book. Its annoying.

Jay peak is great! Would like to get back there myself!

I think FHR only shows until the end of the calendar year until they negotiate with the hotels each year.

I need some help from the flight award booking gurus. I need to get from PVD or BOS to PUJ on 3/21/20 returning 3/25/20 for 2 adults and 2 kids. I would like to use AA miles since I will have an abundance of them from the train. AwardHacker is showing round trip in business class for 50k round trip but when I go to aa.com and search, they are showing up as much more. I've never booked flights with points before, other than SW. Anybody have a few mins to give it a search for me?

Your return flight is available at 15K pp as a saver award from PUJ - BOS. If your dates were more flexible you could get saver awards out of PVD or BOS. PVD doesn't have saver awards on Sat the 21st but does on Sat the 28th. If you push it out a week you can do the 28th as a departure and the 1st as return. BOS departure had no saver awards for a Saturday departure but did have some mid week ones.

That's been my experience as well. It's pretty annoying when I want to book something far in advance and they don't have anything at all listed. I usually book something and then often will switch if a good FHR option comes up.

More bad news this morning.

I got an email from Amex that a new replacement card is coming for my SPG Lux. The metal Bonbon Brilliant. The worst part:

Your existing Card will be deactivated
You will receive your new Card within the next several days. You may continue to use your existing Card until your new Card arrives, however as a security measure, your current Card will be deactivated soon afterward.

I'm going to chat with Amex to see if I can keep my purple card. :sad1:

Tagging @tink1970, @MKTokyo, @DisneyMandC, @GZanta77, @kmc8826, @Judique and everyone else partial to purple.

Was you card expiring? That would be consistent with what Marriott told me, that I would get a replacement card with new branding only when my current card was about to expire and then I wouldn’t be able to use the old one. I am hoping that’s the case. DD has my Marriott card as her only CC there and it shouldn’t expire anytime soon. She does have her Schwab Debit card but no other CC so hoping they don’t just randomly send me a new card.
I just downgrade my SPG Lux to the regular Card and got a new purple card in the mail (even though the picture on the website is that yucky artsy thing) I got the email the same week that I will get the new yucky card and the purple one will be deactivated. Bleh. @Lain let us know if your chat is successful.

My Bonvoy Biz had a fraud alert about a month ago (“no I did not just use it to spend $700 at a gas station”). They sent me the new one. It is not as bad in reality as online. I like that it has a blue outline around it...makes it stand out a little more. I would still rather just keep purple though!

CHASE SELF-SUPPORT AND CROSS-SUPPORT UPDATE!
I've removed the "self-support" thread on DISchurners in light of some new information I discovered today.

I know of MULTIPLE people who have received letters from Chase about misuse of the Ultimate Rewards program related to support links. Interestingly enough, these letters were dated PRIOR to the whole reveal on Monday about this "loophole". One person received 4 letters (one for each of their accounts...including accounts they didn't even get any clicks on). Another reports receiving 3 letters. I'd imagine that this will surface on r/churning at some point but I will not be breaking the news there as I did NOT receive any of these letters (but I'm also not doing any of the activities that I believe caused the letters.) I am sharing here because I think our community would want to understand what the potential risks are here.

The common things between these users (perceived as misuse by Chase) that IMO could potentially have triggered these letters are:
  • Using old links on an expired card to exceed Chase's limit for total support links on a card
  • Altering links to generate a support link for a card you do not currently hold (i.e. what that thread was all about)
  • NOTE: This is definitely not related to any MS activities so no need to be concerned there. One user does not MS at all and received multiple letters.
I know that first comment could concern people here as sometimes we'll advise keeping your link active after you've PCed the card (i.e. like a CSP link for a card that is now a CFU). I personally would ONLY be concerned about this if you are using this method to EXCEED the max number of support points on a card. I don't believe Chase is going after somebody who generates 1 or 2 clicks in this manner.

The letter clearly stated that if they do not stop this misuse of the "support" program that their accounts will be closed. One user I spoke to feels strongly that this is totally about the first bullet comment and not about the item revealed on Monday (my second bullet). However, that same user had already said that they had attempted the altering links method, some did not track, and that they felt the risk was not worth the reward on that any more.

So in light of this information I feel that I cannot in good conscience advocate for generating "self-support" and "cross-support" links to cards you do not currently hold as we discussed Monday. It's clear that Chase is paying attention to people who are abusing their support program. If somebody feels strongly that they want to attempt that, I'll be happy to send them the information but I don't want newer folks stumbling on that thread thinking it's a viable way to earn points. IMO, the risk there is not worth the reward.

In general, I feel this should not be a huge concern to anybody here. I don't believe any of us were engaging in actions like this BUT I want to put all of this out there as a warning (and explain why I took down what may have been viewed previously as valuable information). I would instead recommend that we continue to pay-it-forward by using support links of friends here, and definitely use a spouse support link (or self support) whenever possible with legitimate links on cards you hold.

I will now open the floor up to questions... (LOL, this just feels like I'm making a prepared statement! )

I know most here are under 5/24 and this is a bad offer for those, but did anyone see this NLL public offer for the Amex no-AF Hilton? This seems super risky to me, but I've already had the no-AF Hilton years ago and I was interested in getting another for upgrade offers anyway, so I pulled the trigger yesterday. It went pending and I was approved today. Took the temp card number and paid a portion (ugh) of our rent, so I will know very soon if the 75k points post.

Just wanted to update on the NLL no-AF Hilton - My 75k Hilton bonus posted overnight. This works. Also, very likely a RAT-trap, so beware. But given I've already gotten every single MR card and cashed them all out, and I've already had the Surpass, Hilton Biz, and Aspire, I'm fine with the risk. I'll hold it long-term and fish for an Ascend upgrade offer since I'm not eligible.

There's a NLL Ascend link out there too now, and I'm very tempted to try it now that I know it works. But that one has an AF, so there's a real cost other than "useless" spend if it doesn't work.

I need to work on my spreadsheets...(slaps own face) anyway.... A while back I posted about my Hilton dilemma(booking on points, wouldn't allow a Fri-Sun booking, only Friday-Monday etc) So I had called and gotten a great Hilton CSR- she had called the hotel, and put a note on my res. after speaking to the manager, that I could check out a day early(Fri-Sun) and they would manually refund me a chunk of points.... so of course they saw the note at hotel, but it didn't happen on its own... I waited a fe days after stay posted, then called Hilton again- CSR found the note(!!!) and manually replaced 53k points! (that night was only 40k on the original res.) so after not too much effort Hilton came thru! I'm definitely converting from the Marriott of the past over to Hilton Honors loyalty....(I was completely expecting to lose those points)
