I know you love Disney but...really? ~a dis meet in London 5/15

Just found this report and am I glad I did!! I am an Anglophile from way back. I used to work for British Airways and have been to the UK more times than I can count. Haven't been for a few years now so I am so excited to read about our adventures.

As for packing, hey, you are traveling, you are allowed to be wrinkled and a little smudgy (no, not Smidgy).

Have a great trip! Say hi to Liz for us.

:lmao:

I'm not as worried about my clothes in London as in Paris....don't want to be the loud american in shorts and white tennis shoes.;)

HI marita!!!:grouphug:

cherie, are you going to take a picture of your packed bags?

Trust me they know your American no matter what your wearing. :rotfl:I felt so out of place everyone seems to dress so chic' we stuck out like sore thumbs!

Good on the Merrels shoes let me know how they work. :thumbsup2

Sounds like we watch the same guy! I've read every thing he's written about London and Paris also.

The web site he has a forum to lots of good info to be had there as well. I cut out the information I need from his books and took them along to save space. ;) Just a thought....

I'm so excited for you I think you'll have a fantastic time. I won't be surprised if you're bitten by the Europe travel bug. We were and this time around the kids are coming with. :)

I'm sure I'll have a dear in the head lights look most of the time to go along with my american-ness.

The problem with all these travel bugs is they don't come with their own money.:)

One of my many "talents" that I've cultivated over the years is looking on the bright side of things...like when my clunkty old car died in the middle of an intersection...at least there was a car full of young guys behind me to push me out of the way.......waking up to find a flat tire...at least it happened at home. That sort of thing.

Well, today I'm working on being greatful for being sick now and not next week. I woke up sat morning with a sore throat and headache....that has continued into a full blown head/chest cold.

I'm very glad it's now and not on the vacation but I have so many things I need to be doing but my head hurts so bad I can barely sit up.:headache:

I have however accomplished making 50 lists of things to do and pack. Now I just need a personal assistant.

Start taking Coldeze RIGHT NOW!! It will help get rid of it quicker.. I swear by that stuff.

Yeah, I have to agree with lovealldisney, they will know you are American and be rude to you no matter what you wear. We can't out chic the French.

hi to all the people I know from Nebo's world. Finally branching out into the big world of Trip Reports and turning in my lurker card. Can't wait to hear about this trip!

Feel better fast!!:yay:

Yep agree with you there. That is why it's taking us 3 years for us ALL to save. I told the kids that if they want to go they have to contribute as well. I'm not expecting much but they've been pretty good and offering what money they can to go towards the trip.

I'm so sorry you're sick! Yes it's good to get it out of your system now! Lots of liquids! And yes to the Coldeze! Nice hot showers or bath to help loosen thing up.

If I lived closer I would take the assitant job :goodvibes but alas I'm here in Wisconsin....

I have been taking something similar to coldeze..not sure if it realy helps or not.

Having the kids contribute is a great idea.

I thought about delegating a few things to D.Jay...like packing...but the image in my head of what I'd be dressed with was way too scary.pirate:

Hi Winkers :wave2:

I am back on the DIS to check out your PTR and to hear all about you TR when you are back (or maybe along the way...??)

Just wanted to pop in and say hi and that I'm subbing in

Hope all is well and good luck with that carry-on situation. I've gotten better about packing efficiently over the years but I have not reached that state yet... more power to ya.

Oh, and one tip - I found that the french are not so much just rude to Americans, it's more to Americans who assume they speak English. I tried to learn a few key phrases in French and they were very pleasant to me (once I even got a local rate on the metro - tee hee). You have to say "Bonjour" when you enter establishments, and "Merci and Au revoir" when leaving, and they seemed a lot more accommodating. Also if I was trying to buy something, if I looked like I was trying to ask in French, they would help me out and respond in English... but that was several years ago, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Have a GREAT time! And of COURSE, you have to go to DLP if you are there!! I made DH take me there when we went for our honeymoon.

Wendy!:goodvibes

I'm not too worried about the French. My thought is if you're nice and polite everything should be fine. I just hope I don't mangle their languae too much.

It's a little after 4 a.m. and I'm sitting wide awake in a hotel room in Seattle. I don't think the fact that we're really leaving today has fully sunk in.
I'm afraid it might not feel like reality untill I'm in London and forget to look right then left, before crossing the road. I think being plowed over by a giant double decker bus will make things pretty clear.

Winkers,
I think you'll be just fine, we we're suprised how many people spoke english. Well at least in Germany. You're right if you're polite you'll be fine. Often my DH and I were mistaken for being German and shopowners we're suprised we were American.

Make no mistake though Americans can be rather loud and well we found in general that Europeans were quiet and much more reserved. We saw several insidents with loud rude Americans. We just shook our heads in shame and walked quickly by. I think the problem with Americans is that they want to be treated and expect the same as if they were in America. :sad2: You know they want it and want it NOW!

Anyway I can't wait to hear all about your trip. I'm so excited for you both. :)
