I know schools must have a dress code but this is a bit ridiculous...

I HATE, I mean HATE, to see girls wearing those shorts with words on their rear. Why don't the words just say LOOK HERE, because that's what it is for. I have never allowed DD to own a pair.

Our school has a dress code that I fully support: shorts and skirts no more than 5 inches above the knees; no tank tops or spaghetti straps (sleeveless is okay); no midriff tops; no tees with obscene or alcohol/tobacco motifs; no "spiked" jewelry; others I don't remember off the top of my head.

The problem I do have with the dress code is that it is "selectively" enforced - if you happen to be a very popular student, you get away with more than if you're not.

I have to agree with those who do not appreciate wording on the hiney. It was pretty hard sometimes finding clothing that did not have writing on the bottom. Hopefully that trend will end soon.

I don't like words on the rear, and they are banned at our schools too. I would not let DD wear that anyway! Girls can't even wear shorts in middle school here as the required length is so long that they don't make shorts that way for girls! In the middle school there are lots more rules too-no words on shirts for instance (except a name brand), and no graphics. I like it as the boys are dressing nicer (polos) this year. Very strict dress codes here. I was in the office the other day, and the principal handed a girl a t-shirt and told her to go put it on (her shirts straps were too thin).

I have a big problem with little girls wearing words on their butts, it's completely unnecessary and I don't want to give any sick people any reason to look at my daughter. They shouldn't be allowed in school.

That's why it's great having a school uniform. I don't have to think about what the dress code is, and I know exactly what my DD's are going to wear everyday!

It is usually not any particular color in reference to gangs, until the same thing is worn by a particular group of students. For example, if a group osf students are all wearing red shirts with jeans that is a sign of a gang. Before any one over reacts, no one is saying that a group of friends can't dress alike for a day- school administrators know what students are suspected of gang activity- those are the ones that they would be looking at.

I think the principal is going a bit overboard this year. I will wait for my first phone call if I ever get one because I will go right down to the office with my school manual and dress code in hand.
Oh , and I still don't know what the gang colors are, so maybe I am violating some kind of rule, I don't know.

I think that its absolutely WONDERFUL news and I wish those stupid shorts were never invented and I hope ALL schools ban them!!!!!

ITA! We went to uniforms here five years ago and I love it!

I also think words on the rear end of pants is asking for people to look at a little girl's rear end. I know my DD (8) would never be allowed to wear that.

We were given a pair of shorts with the words on the back, and I promptly threw them away...

I don't want my six year old to wear a pair of shorts that says HOTTIE!

Everyone wears pictures and words on their chest. But if the words fit just the wrong place, then no they can't wear them either. It just depends on how it looks. And I'm pretty strict on what my girls wear.
There are enough problems out there without adding more. It's a shame, but it's something we deal with.

IMHO, it's not the same. Men and women have been wearing shirts with pictures and words for many many years. It doesn't always attract the same attention the butt words do. If it did, well, then my DDs wouldn't be able to wear it!

The only words across the chest that my dd's wear are their sports sponsors. I don't purchase any of the clothes that say princess, angel, cutie etc whether it be on pants or shirts. I think it's inappropriate. The closest thing my dd's get to princess are the Disney princess t-shirts.

Thank goodness for school uniforms, but even if they didn't have them, it still goes back to they wouldn't be wearing those other types of clothes because I'm not spending my hard earned money on them and dd's know better than to even ask.

My favorite line with them is "if you want to look like trash, people will think you're trash and treat you like trash." JMHO.

Your question sounds like an attempt to justify the words on the butt. I think that there is a bigger lesson in dress codes that is sometimes overlooked. More often than not a dress code exists to eliminate truly inappropriate clothing among students, as seems to be the case in your DD's school. The other part of that is the lesson that there is a time and a place for everything and the more appropriate the children dress for school, the better the behavior and the grades. Of course there are exceptions to this but generally speaking, it seems to be true.

I guess I am in the minority here with MsKanga. DD does have some shorts with words on them but the only word she is allowed or wants to wear is 'Dance'. She takes 5 dance classes and the shorts her studio sells have DANCE written across the back. She doesn't wear these to school but I have not seen anything that bans them. I do not buy and would not allow her to wear words like Cutie or Hottie or anything like that.

No it isn't, I'm just curious how some people can think that it's unacceptable to wear a pair of pants with say the word "soccer" right below your waist across the back because it draws attention to the rear, but it's acceptable to wear a t-shirt with the same word across the chest.
