Hi everyone! Here to pick your brains again, hope you dont mind.

I know a lot of you live within a half days drive to the fort, and go for weekend jaunts.

What do you do if it looks like rain?

I am asking because the weather is not looking 100% for our camping trip (in a tent). And we are trying to decide whether or not to scrap it. (not at the Fort)

If we did scrap it, our next chance to camp would not be until the end of July. :-(

The day we would arrive the weather looks great, and I do feel like my DH and I can put our set up, up so that we would stay dry (our tent was in 3 weeks or pouring rain last year and stayed dry, plus there are enough things in the area to do indoors if the weather during the day is too yucky...

but then I think why do I want to put myself through that lol Esp being this would be my family's first camping trip.

but then I think about some of the really good times I had while camping in the rain...

DH and I have talked about what a pain the wet tent would be to deal with, and both agreed we have the space to lay it out and such... it's a task we are willing to do.

UGH!!!!

It's only 30% chance of rain... We have until Weds. afternoon to cancel...

sigh

We have our rain tested main tent 10 x 18 and a 12x15 screened house, and about a zillion very large tarps, more rope than we know what to do with and could pick up a few tent poles I suppose...

We also have good attudes about the adventure of it all...

Ahhhh!!!!!!

Now of course today it's Sunny and Mid to upper 70's :lmao:

When we tent camped we would hang a large trap over our tents. It keeps the rain and heat off the tents. I have slept in tents all over the world, no way would I let a little rain cancel my trip. Just a bit of preplanning and everything should go smooth. Enjoy the trip and have a great time. If you don't like the weather in the South, just wait an hour and it will change. LOL

It might only rain for 15 minutes also in Florida it might rain at the site acrossed from you & you might stay dry! You can go to down town Disney & other activities if it does rain! The movie theatre there is spectacular has 2 concession areas it is so BIG!

As long as you don't have to set up in the rain, don't sweat it. If you have to break down wet, just make sure you bring big garbage bags, toss the wet stuff in the garbage bags and hang it all out to dry when you get home.

That's just the nature of the beast with tent camping. Even with Scouts when we tent camped, we would break down so early Sunday morning that everything was always still damp from morning dew, so every Sunday after a Scout trip, the tents would get spread over the fence while the linens were in the washer/dryer. After the linens got out of the dryer, everything got folded back up and put away.

hey rainy days are great at the parks...lots of folks go back to their hotles..means less lines for you! dryers can be used if stuff does manage to get wet...take rubbermaid containers for most everything and you should be fine with the tarps too!!!:hippie:

Never camp or not camp based on the weather forcast! Look being a weather man its a job where you guess, its not an exact science ;) Some of my best trips were when the forcast called for storms and such.

YellowXterra is right. Unless they are forecasting 100% chance of bad storms we stick to our plans. Granted, it is a little easier for us in a pop up but only a little. Heck a 30% chance of rain is a 70% chance of no rain.

We don't tent camp but I would never let a weather forecast change my camping plans, UNLESS there was a hurricane right off of the coast. Then I would really have to think long and hard......

I have learned the hard way to not over plan and just go with the flow. It is after all a vacation, whether you are at WDW & FW in the rain or not, at least you are THERE!:lovestruc

I hope you have a good trip, rain or not. Remember, the weatherman can't really predict the forecast perfectly and they are certainly not in control of it.

Most Floridians laugh at the weather forecasters here, especially during hurricane season. :happytv:

I would not worry about the weather. There have been some great hints and suggestions on this thread and should be taken into consideration. If it rains, find some cover, let it pass (15-20min) and go on. Have a great time and post a report when you get back!

BTW- our dry season here lasts until the end of May, then you have more afternoon showers

I wish it would rain on my extremely dry grass...it could use a good soaking!
