I Kicked it I Played it and now..Wheeling & Dealing at the WL final 9/9 p87/88

I can't believe you're leaving in a week! :cool1:

POFQ looks so pretty! I'm hoping to get up early and walk over there from POR one morning to check it out while DH is still sleeping! :rotfl:

I LOVE Earl of Sandwich! I want to try WPE because everyone says how great it is, but I can't bring myself to not go to EoS! :)

I think you are going to love your Teva Mush flip flops, they are fantastic, I live in mine!

I can't wait to see your Mickey wallet! :)

So I texted Jen to see if she will stop by my TR and introduce herself today. Let's see what happens. She has a sick dog at home and her DH is driving to Indiana ? this weekend because they are adopting a new dog. She might have her hands full, but ya never know!!!!!!

Color me green with envy! I loved POFQ when we stayed there, and a day to shop in DTD and then walk around PO taking photographs sounds fabulous!

Hello! :wave2: I am the aforementioned Jen that will be with MEK on this trip.

Let me tell you a little about Mary Ellen and how she got hooked on WDW, DVC, and the DIS - I had something to do with all 3! :rolleyes1 When I started working with her in 2003 I had an Oct trip planned and she had a Sept trip; her "one last trip" before the kids are too old to enjoy it, before her schedule gets too busy, before whatever happens and she feels like WDW will no longer be there (yeah right!). That "last" trip was the first of several "last trips" :rotfl: The assimilation was starting; no sooner did she get home then she wanted to plan another trip. Mary Ellen started eating at different restaurants, enjoyed park openings, EMH's, and even rented a car while in WDW!

I joined DVC during that Oct 2003 trip and I started telling her, "Mary Ellen, these "one last trips" are starting to add up. Why don't you look into DVC and save yourself some money! The resorts are unbelieveable, the ease of trip planning is unparalleled, and it's super-flexible". Well, she liked her AAA discounts and wasn't concerned about the accommodations; she wasn't in the room very much anyway.

Right.

EVENTUALLY she caved and rented some of my points to stay at SSR.
pixiedust: POOF!
She figured it out! These weren't "last trips" she was planning, they were just the next trip! SSR made a great impression on her and when she came back we had a DVC Q&A session which ended in her purchasing a DVC contract through the lovely Time Share Store, featured here on the DIS, and the rest, as they say is history!

I am super psyched (:hyper:) about this trip! No DH, no kids, just us Disney-geeks let lose upon the World! People are work are... in awe, shall we say, at the um... extent of our planning and excitement. I just think they're jealous. I am looking forward to staying at BLT and *walking* :tiptoe: in to MK, having no strollers/diaper bags, and no huffy-DH who won't let me browse the shops!

There will be pics galore and stories to share when we return. OMG - my ticker says 8 days! I suppose I should start packing...

Mary Ellen - love the loose plans!

Jen - nice to meet you and thanks for giving us the back story on ME's trips leading up to DVC!

It looks like you both are going to have a great time!

ME - I wore my basic black Teva mush virtually every minute of our July trip. My other sandals were more enclosed and were just too hot. Never had a problem with them. And I don't wear any other flip flops. Ever. I hate that thing between my toes - but this is nice fabric.

Okay - POFQ question? How big, really are those ginormous looking clown/jester heads??? They sort of freak me out a bit. Where are they?
I'd like to stay there, but that is a bit of a deterrent.

Oh - and about the TOTWL at BLT - I know there is a thread about BLT that talks extensively about the DVC usage. There may be more info there about if you are DVC staying on cash vs. points. I know it was discussed at some point.

You post has got me so excited!! We'll be doing DTD on our arrival day too and your pictures have taken us right there!!! Thank you:cloud9:

Jen ... nice to meet you! Sounds like you two are in for a whole lot of fun!!!

Interesting. Well, isn't one of the resorts in DLP a wild west theme? This must be a draw for certain people. You already know I prefer palm trees!

Yes, apparently it's supposed to be like the one at DLP! I'm not sure I'm digging the theming idea!

You're going to love your Mush!!!!

It sounds like you have a fabulously relaxing first day planned! I really want to try Earl of Sandwich! We haven't eaten there yet!

Hi Jen! Nice to meet you! I love that your the one that kinda talked MaryEllen into DVC! Congrats on going back to school too!

Both resorts are so pretty. They are similar, yet different enough for each to be unique. I really think the landscaping is some of the best, if not the best on property. I promise to take pics for you!

I LOVE Earl of Sandwich! I want to try WPE because everyone says how great it is, but I can't bring myself to not go to EoS! :)

I love EoS too! Super yummy sandwiches! :thumbsup2

My flip flops came today and I already love them. I can't wait for my wallet to come!

I am looking forward to it. I really like POFQ, too. Denny and I stayed there one other time for one night and it really wasn't long enough. It should be a relaxing way to start the trip!

Welcome Jen! party:

I am so glad you stopped by!!!!! YEAH!

This is all true. Every word of it. I thought my August/Sept 2003 was going to be my last trip. But it was actually my first on site trip and I knew I was hooked after that, I just was reluctant to admit it.

Renting points from Jen at SSR made me fall in love with the resort. It was perfect for me since we like all the mods and SSR is like an upscale mod resort. Even though 4 of us where in a studio, there were so many great things about DVC that I really started thinking about it seriously. It took us another year to actually purchase, but it was such a great decision.

I am super psyched (:hyper:) about this trip! No DH, no kids, just us Disney-geeks let lose upon the World! Some of those people at work think we are a little crazy, lets face it. Some of our coworkers have never been to Disney and they have no clue why we would want to keep going back. They just shrug their shoulders and laugh! IT'S COOL!

See - this trip is going to be really liberating for you Jen, because the diaper bag days are way behind me.

Mary Ellen - love the loose plans!

Jen - nice to meet you and thanks for giving us the back story on ME's trips leading up to DVC!

We totally are. Our plans are actually a little too loose right now, but we'll figure it out!

ME - I wore my basic black Teva mush virtually every minute of our July trip. My other sandals were more enclosed and were just too hot. Never had a problem with them. And I don't wear any other flip flops. Ever. I hate that thing between my toes - but this is nice fabric.

Good to know. Another vote for the Teva Mush. I was never a big flip flop person either, but I am slowly trying to convert myself. I think these are going to be perfect.

Okay - POFQ question? How big, really are those ginormous looking clown/jester heads??? They sort of freak me out a bit. Where are they?
I'd like to stay there, but that is a bit of a deterrent.

They are pretty big and they are located in the food court. I didn't really eat in there, but I don't remember them being too obnoxious. They do look a little scary in the pictures!

Oh - and about the TOTWL at BLT - I know there is a thread about BLT that talks extensively about the DVC usage. There may be more info there about if you are DVC staying on cash vs. points. I know it was discussed at some point.

Good to know. Melissa should check that out, although she now has a DVC stay there as well so she WILL get to see TOTWL after all.

You post has got me so excited!! We'll be doing DTD on our arrival day too and your pictures have taken us right there!!! Thank you:cloud9:

I am so glad I got you psyched for your upcoming trip!!!!! I think DTD is a great way to start a trip!

We can't wait! :thumbsup2 :cool1:

Yes, apparently it's supposed to be like the one at DLP! I'm not sure I'm digging the theming idea!

Yeah - I'm not sure if I really care for that theme. But it will be interesting to see a new resort be built. I am actually not exactly sure where River country was. I know it was somewhere on Bay Lake, but I don't know the exact location.

You're going to love your Mush!!!!

I really got the idea from you. They came today and they ARE very comfortable.

It sounds like you have a fabulously relaxing first day planned! I really want to try Earl of Sandwich! We haven't eaten there yet!

That surprises me. The sandwiches are really good. Well, you have something like 3 trips coming up so I think you can fit it in! :rotfl:

Hi Jen! Nice to meet you! I love that your the one that kinda talked MaryEllen into DVC! Congrats on going back to school too!

It's true. She did. I may have figured it out myself, but Jen really nudged me along in the beginning!

Mary Ellen, I think your first day plans absolutely perfect. And I think it is great that you are going to two places that will be new experiences for both of you.

I am pretty psyched about Day 1 as well. :thumbsup2 And I love trying new places to eat. I always make sure I have at least one new place to try. I prefer two! I'm not sure if Jen has eaten at Y&Y. that might be a new one for her as well.

Good to know. Melissa should check that out, although she now has a DVC stay there as well so she WILL get to see TOTWL after all.

I actually posted a thread about TOWL on the DVC boards asking about the cash reservation through CR. The consensus is no. But, I was planning on pleading my case. We'll see! Now I hear that you really not supposed to take guests up there. I can't believe they restrict it so much when it's so empty! I just hope the lack of crowd doesn't make them close it down! I really think they need to find away to make it less strict! I get the whole exclusivity thing but really! The poor bartenders up there are probably dying for a good tip!

:lmao: having not been to EOS surprises me too! I really wanted to go on shopping day last Oct. But, it was just DD and I and she really wanted to go to McD's! Bleck! I would have gotten something and taken it with us to McD's but it seemed like to much effort, especially because it was hotter then heck!

Your right, I do have LOTS of opportunity to eat there in the next 6 months or so! I definitely think that will be our lunch stop next month on DTD day!

WOOT WOOT...love adding an extra day!! So much fun!! A girls only trip is so much fun and I know you and Jen are going to have a great time!

I love POFQ, such a great resort...of course BLT sounds absolutely divine so getting a bit of both sounds like heaven!!!!

Can't wait to hear more!

I was afraid of the guest thing, which is a bummer because I was hoping to take LL and Marc up there. I'm still going to try. I am just going to say they are interested in DVC and purchasing there and they were hoping to join us.

Yeah, you're right about the bartenders. When its not crowded they won't make any money.

I remember that in your TR. And I certainly understand the ease of McD's, especially when you kid is asking for it.

I KNOW you will get there on one of your next trips.

Isn't amazing how easy it is to fine a reason to add an extra day! ;) I love POFQ, too. I don't think Jen has ever stayed there since she was a CSR addict prior to DVC. I love CSR too, but I think POFQ is great for a short stay.

I've stayed at POFQ and I just want beignets and a hurricane! CSR was my home before SSR and we make a point to go there and get lunch on every trip just to visit the resort, and to visit the ginormous gift shop. Always makes me want to stay there.

I may have to visit CSR on this trip, let's pencil it in.

Day one sounds perfect Mary Ellen!
Nice to meet you Jen and it sounds like you two will have a great time!:woohoo:
I have LC for lunch too....I assume you can get the filet for lunch also right....:confused3 I know it sounds like a lot for lunch but I have to have it!!

What is a hurricane????? I have NO idea? Does it have alcohol in it? :rotfl2:

I didn't know you did that. I would love to try the Pepper Market. When I stayed at CSR we were actually OFF the dining plan and I couldn't see paying OOP for the Pepper Market. We actually sent Denny in search of a Taco Bell that night. Can you believe it? But the kids and I were craving it and we wanted something cheap!

I am really looking forward to Day 1.

As far as LeCellier - I may get the filet for lunch too. It's been over a year since I had it and it is just so darn good with those cream cheese mashed potatoes. Yum. I think I just drooled a little!

.....Jen and I will be getting up early and planning our departure from POFQ. I know I will be sorry to leave, but we will be on to bigger and better things. Of course, I am definitely trying the beignets before we go and I still have no idea what a hurricane is. It doesn't sound like a morning drink.

Cynthia would be proud to know that I already purchased some real Starbucks coffee for the trip. Yeah me! :thumbsup2

I would also really like to go running in the morning which means I will have to get up extra early. But POR and POFQ are two of my favorite resorts to run through and running there reminds me of my very first onsite Disney trip. I ran everyday that trip. No lie - something like 7 days straight. I loved, loved, loved the solitude of running around POR. The landscaping was gorgeous and the peacefulness was breathtaking.

Ahhhhh....memories. :cloud9:

So what's in store for today? Well, I hope Jen chimes in here because I am assuming that we will be up early, pack up, have breakfast, check our luggage to get transferred to BLT, and take the bus over to MK. From there I am assuming we will monorail or walk it over to BLT to check-in. Since we are getting the dining plan I figure we want to get that taken care of early.

Then we are off to.....WHERE JEN???? I figure if we are all checked in before the opening ceremony at MK we will probably head over there. I know we BOTH really want to see the opening ceremony. I haven't seen it for quite awhile. Again, it will bring back memories from when my kids where younger and when they would still get up and get to a park before the crack of noon.

I remember the second time I took them to the opening ceremony - I got soooooooo choked up. Tears just filled my eyes and fogged up my sunglasses. I got myself under control just in time to walk down mainstreet only to get all choked up again seeing the castle. At the time it was hard to believe that anything could have such a profound effect on me. I thought I had to be the only crazy fool in the crowd. But I have since learned that many of you have experienced the same emotions that I did. Which makes me think we are all a bunch of saps! :rotfl: Kidding - I think we are all lucky because we have experienced firsthand the magic that Walt was inspired to create!

Now, on the other hand, if checking in and luggage transfers and all that has made us late for the opening ceremonies then perhaps we should save it for another day and hit another park. I am good with whatever park we go to. I usually save HS for later in my trips because I like to work my way up to ToT and RnR. I know Jen really wants to ride TSM so I KNOW we want to get to HS early for that. I am cool if we go to AK or Epcot, although we have Epcot planned for Tuesday morning since we have a LeCellier ADR that day.

I sort of like the fact that we are winging it. As long as we get to each park in the morning, I am all good!

Our evening plans are a little more concrete. We both have decided that we are nicer people when we take afternoon breaks, so that's the plan. I will probably want to chill by the pool for an hour or so. I am not really good at naps at the beginning of my trip. But sitting by the pool is totally relaxing for me and can have the same effect as a perfectly timed nap.

Dinner is the Wave at 6:15. Jen has never been there. I have actually been there twice - once in June of 09 and once during my May trip. I enjoyed it a tad more during the first trip. I had steak the first time and fish the second. I'm sure it will be a nice meal and its a nice atmosphere.

After dinner we are hoping to hit the TOTW lounge. I made plans to meet LL and Marc after dinner and take them up there with us. LL and Marc are there now - at Disney I mean. I hope they aren't too burnt out a week from now. I have heard mixed reviews on whether a non DVC BLT person can go up there with us. But we are going for it. Of course, if for some reason we can't get them up there I would rather go into MK and meet them. LL is like my hero Dis'er. She is a posting fiend and I have been following her PTR/TR for years. She is legend and it would be so cool to finally meet her in person. Plus, her pictures have really inspired me to get creative with the camera. Her montage of light fixtures are second to none. Keep your fingers crossed it all works out!

Well, that's it for now. Up Next will be Day 3.

Oh - and I worked like crazy on my OBX shutterfly books today. I am making one for each family on the trip. I am very excited because they are turning out great!

OOOH I can't wait to hear about your meal at the Wave!!! Sounds so exciting I really would like to eat there someday!! I cannot wait to see the pictures from BLT...you take some seriously fantastic pictures and from your balcony...I cannot wait!!!

Somehow I didn't remember that you have dined at The Wave before. I am really hoping to try a meal there in October. For a variety of reasons I've become very interested in locally sourced, fresh, organic, sustainable products and so I'm very interested in this restaurant.

Please don't panic... I'm also "interested" in junk food like burgers and fries.

I have only transferred resorts once but found the process very easy so hope the same will be true for you!!

All these rules around the TOTWL sound crazy. I totally get restricting it to DVC members and even DVC members staying at BLT. But not being able to bring guests? To an empty lounge? :confused3 Seems a little nutty to me. Hope you're able to work it out. I haven't met Marc but I have had the pleasure of meeting LL and she is delightful. :goodvibes
