I used my REDCard at Target and bought 17 $50 Disney Gift Cards. My total bill was $807.50:banana:!

I called MS and paid my $851.97 with the $850 in gift cards and $1.97 to my Disney Visa!

So, the $40 increase in dues this year was negated by the $42 I saved:cool1:.

That's awesome.... Target sells Disney gift cards?????

I have never seen them!! Where??

This sounds like a good idea but I'm surprised they didn't give you a hard time about using 17 gift cards. I know when I've called to purchase special event tickets they wouldn't allow me to use more than 2 or 3 (can't remember which) forms of payment.

Nice trick! Turns out my son's preschool offers a 10% discount for prepaying for the year. So if I prepay his $5,300 by the July for the 2012-2013 year, It will only cost me $4770. So I save $530. My 2012 Dues are $527. Too bad I will only get this discount for 2 years before he starts Kindergarten. I guess his preschool tuition is like DVC. Prepay up front, save over time :rotfl2:

Doesn't Sams also have discounted Disney gift cards? Of course, I think you only get $2 off a $100 gift card, so the Target deal is a better one. I pay my MFs monthly, but I'm planning on buying some discounted gift cards for my trip to pay for the DxDDP. I'd be interested in knowing where these are in Target, too.

in our local targets they are located by the CDs. There is a whole endcap of various store GCs and they all get a 5% discount when you use your Redcard.

I didnt save as much as you so awesome job but I did save $1 off per gallon of gas (which was a $16.50 saving) I bought a Disney gift card at Kroger offering 2x fuel points on gift cards. Put 567.00 on a Disney Gift Card (they have the ones that you tell them how much to put on up to $1,500) to pay our annual dues and used our Disney Chase Visa to pay for the gift card so I get those points too. :goodvibes

Isn't this great? Here's a better savings...

After you have 5 prescriptions filled at Target, they send you a 5% discount card good for one day of shopping. You can combine this discount with the redcard debit discount. (well, it's 5% then 5% so really 9.5%). You can use it all day so if one target doesn't have enough disney cards then you can go to another for more.

Saving me big money on our DCL cruise too :)

We buy these at HEB. We get grocery reward points (somehow we are the only HEB market that does reward points -- wahoo for us!) and they also run "sales" from time to time, such as $10-20 HEB gift card with $100 in other gc purchase. Plus, I got the airline miles that my cc awards for charging. If you can estimate how much you will spend while on your trip, you can buy the gc's at a discount and use them while vacationing, too.

Wow! I didn't know the Target Redcard 5% off included the purchase of gift cards. What a great way to save on dues! Thanks!

Is the Target Redcard their credit card? If so, is there an annual fee?

At first, I thought I had found my next money-saving idea, but then, I think there might be a way to save even more. Someone on the Dis reported this idea in another thread, so I can't take credit for it:
Go to Wal-mart and buy Wal-mart gift cards with a credit card that earns rewards. Then go to Sams and buy $100 Disney gift cards using the Wal-mart gift cards to pay for them. You get 2% off the Disney gift cards automatically plus a $10 coupon toward the Disney Store. You would also be earning rewards from the Wal-mart purchase.

I think I will stick to my original plan:
I plan on requesting cashback on my Chase Freedom card in June. Then I'll take that money to Walmart to purchase Wal-mart gift cards, earning the quarterly 5% back since it's a grocery purchase. Then I'll use the Wal-mart gift cards to buy Disney gift cards from Sam's. This will allow me to save 7% total, plus I will get 10% in coupons to the Disney store.

Does anyone see a flaw in this plan?

Last year I was able to my about $2000 in gift cards at HEB for $1600 saving me $400. Do you know if they do that buy "$100 get $20 off every year?

The only flaw I see is that this year Sam's didn't have the $10 Disney store gift cards attached. They had $75 Disney gift cards with a free vinylmation pin. It might be worth $10, but it's not money in your hand.

Planning for next year.....

before Chistmas, Target usually runs specials such as 'spend $50 (or $75) and get a free $5 (or $10) Target gift card.' It may take a bunch of transactions, but you could walk away with quite a few Target gift cards on top of your 5% savings.

So if you buy a $75 card, it's going to cost $75, huh? I'm definitely not interested in a vinylmation pin. I want that money in my hand! I guess I'll have to do some more re-figuring. Can someone give me more info on that Target card?

Both of my daughters work at Target in Michigan. My oldest has worked in every area, especially in Customer Service. She doesn't know anything about the Disney Cards here, but she is going to check into for me tomorrow. I will let you all know what she finds out. Even better she said if they do sell them here I get her 10% and the 5% for the red card. Get out of my way!!!!!!:yay:

The REDcard that I have is NOT the Target Visa and it is NOT the debit card. There is no annual fee. You get 5% off your purchases (with a very few exclusions, including Target gift cards) and free shipping on all of your online purchases.

I do a lot of shopping at Target and I can't believe I waited so long to get this card. Oh, and if you go online to manage your account, you can sign up to have 1% of your purchases donated to a school of your choice. That is money that Target contributes and it does not affect your discount in any way. My kids go to a private, Christian school so they benefit from our purchases too.

For the record, the first cashier told me that the discount does not apply to gift cards. I asked before he rang up all 17 of them. I came back the next day and brought one card to the register. I asked the cashier if the discount applies and she said that it "should". She rang it up and, yup, $47.50 for the $50 card. I went back and grabbed 16 more!

Honestly, I will be upset but not surprised if this benefit goes away. I'll be happy to take advantage of it while it lasts.

Thank you for this thread! At my Target I was told that I couldn't get the discount on any gift cards so I haven't tried. I will definitely be picking up some WDW gift cards there!
