The REDcard that I have is NOT the Target Visa and it is NOT the debit card. There is no annual fee. You get 5% off your purchases (with a very few exclusions, including Target gift cards) and free shipping on all of your online purchases.
I do a lot of shopping at Target and I can't believe I waited so long to get this card. Oh, and if you go online to manage your account, you can sign up to have 1% of your purchases donated to a school of your choice. That is money that Target contributes and it does not affect your discount in any way. My kids go to a private, Christian school so they benefit from our purchases too.
For the record, the first cashier told me that the discount does not apply to gift cards. I asked before he rang up all 17 of them. I came back the next day and brought one card to the register. I asked the cashier if the discount applies and she said that it "should". She rang it up and, yup, $47.50 for the $50 card. I went back and grabbed 16 more!
Honestly, I will be upset but not surprised if this benefit goes away. I'll be happy to take advantage of it while it lasts.
Thank you for the information. I love trying to figure out how to save money! I don't do a lot of shopping at Target even though we do have a local one, but I'm glad to know this is one way to save money on my Disney vacation. Right now, I think what I will do if I don't go with the Sams idea is to buy the gift cards at Kroger between April and June when I get 5% back on my Chase Freedom card, then I will also get 10 cents off my gas for every $100 I spend (and sometimes they double or quadruple the gas points).

And, with my luck I would buy them and MS would deny me using them!
