I Just Saved 5% On My Annual Dues!!!

The REDcard that I have is NOT the Target Visa and it is NOT the debit card. There is no annual fee. You get 5% off your purchases (with a very few exclusions, including Target gift cards) and free shipping on all of your online purchases.

I do a lot of shopping at Target and I can't believe I waited so long to get this card. Oh, and if you go online to manage your account, you can sign up to have 1% of your purchases donated to a school of your choice. That is money that Target contributes and it does not affect your discount in any way. My kids go to a private, Christian school so they benefit from our purchases too.

For the record, the first cashier told me that the discount does not apply to gift cards. I asked before he rang up all 17 of them. I came back the next day and brought one card to the register. I asked the cashier if the discount applies and she said that it "should". She rang it up and, yup, $47.50 for the $50 card. I went back and grabbed 16 more!

Honestly, I will be upset but not surprised if this benefit goes away. I'll be happy to take advantage of it while it lasts.

Thank you for the information. I love trying to figure out how to save money! I don't do a lot of shopping at Target even though we do have a local one, but I'm glad to know this is one way to save money on my Disney vacation. Right now, I think what I will do if I don't go with the Sams idea is to buy the gift cards at Kroger between April and June when I get 5% back on my Chase Freedom card, then I will also get 10 cents off my gas for every $100 I spend (and sometimes they double or quadruple the gas points).

Step one completed...

Got $1800 worth of gift cards at Target. Cleaned them out! The guy at the desk thought their RED card wouldn't apply a discount, but it did!

Lessons learned for when we take our trip!

Awesome!

I bought $700 worth at Giant Eagle for ours when they had 20 cents fuel perks for every $50. We saved $56 in gas which helped eat most of the dues increase. I had other gift cards from Christmas and last year.

To whoever said you might have issues paying with a lot of gift cards, I paid with 6 gift cards and I didn't have an issue. They are more than happy to take your money in any form :rotfl:

I'm so glad I saw this post!! I didn't realize you could pay DVC dues with gift cards.

I bought Disney gift cards from Kroger for our trip in 2 weeks to save on gas, now I'll buy one to pay DVC dues and get my fuel points!

THANKS

At target, the gift cards are usually located in electronics, except for the amazon gift cards which are located near the kindles.

Used the look link to find a store near me that carries the Disney cards. I will be by the closest store tomorrow. Hopefully they will have enough and I can get that taken care of at a great deal.

With over 1500 pts, I think it would take too much time for me to find enough cards and too much time to give all the numbers to MS!:rotfl2: And, with my luck I would buy them and MS would deny me using them!
Good discount but I think I have to pass.

Thanks so much OP for sharing this tip! Ive already paid my dues for this year, but I'll be buying some tomorrow to pay for our dining! :cool1:

I bought 750 in disney at Giant eagle, and received 3.00 off a gallon of gas(.20 for every $50) which gave me 90 bucks off my 30 gallons. I also purchased the gift cards with my disney visa, so I got another 1% or 7.50 giving me a total of 97.5 off. That brought my annual dues down to almost 650.

every penny helps

Last year I was able to my about $2000 in gift cards at HEB for $1600 saving me $400. Do you know if they do that buy "$100 get $20 off every year?

I think it may vary by location. I'll be checking their flyer each week and also scanning the gc section when I hit the store!

Wow! 20% off! Wish I lived close to an HEB. Wonder if I could buy them online with the discount?

How do you get a Target red card?

Your Target store may have a table set up for it...if not just go to customer service. The cashiers have applications as well, since they ask you "Do you want to save 5% on your order today?"

Wow I have never though of this for Disney. We do this with Chilis, applebees, ps3 points and xbox points... why didn't I think of this with disney?

For us the savings is even more because my husband works at target so we get an additional 10% off. We could get 800 in gift cards for 684!! Too bad I already paid my dues for the year :(

What if your dues are taken by automatic debit? Can you still use the gift cards?

We paid for our DDP for all 8 of us for a 6 night stay this way. Target had a deal where you could get a $10 gift card for every $50 purchase (the wording on the coupon was supposed to limit 1 per person but the manager at our local Target was allowing unlimited use of the coupon - flame away but since it was allowed I used it). I would buy $50 worth of gift cards and use my Target Red Card Debit card and save the 5%. I would roll the $10 gift card I received into the next transaction making each subsequent transaction $38 for $50 worth of gift cards. Not a bad deal at all!

It took over an hour to read all of the gift card numbers to the Member Services Rep but he was hysterical fun about it all. He said that Disney didn't care how they got their money as long as they got it.

Even if you pay your dues monthly, you can call and make a payment towards all or part of your remaining balance at any time.

If you pay off part of your balance I've read here that they don't recalculate the monthly payment amount, they just reduce the number of payments you need to make to pay off the balance.
